Chapter 16

Gael had finally figured out the date and he was excited. He’d have Lance helping and his parents kicked in as well. He contacted Phoenix telling her the time so she could get ready. She was at a loss because she was here on a mission, not for dates. Everything she packed was for combat or comfort. Nothing that screamed date. She was walking around her parents’ house in her underwear, not sure how she was going to pull it off.

“Phee calm down dear we’ll figure this out.”

“Mama, I don’t have not one decent thing that I can wear. Everything is either camo or leggings and tank tops.” She shrieked.

“Hold on, mama has some stuff up her sleeves.” Phoenix frowned at the thought of wearing “mom clothes.”

“Uhh no thanks mama, for real.” Her mom scoffed at her and went upstairs in a huff. Phoenix didn’t want to hurt her mother’s feelings, but she couldn’t imagine that she’d have anything in her closet that Phoenix would want or could wear. Boy was she wrong.
