Playing Cupid

"And that will conclude the lesson of today." The lecturer said

Every students favourite part of the day and on cue the classroom was filled with noise and chaos , the bell ringing after was of no use. I swear this guy sees the future or maybe he never liked school growing up his punctuality when it comes to dismissing us never ceases to amaze.

'Have you ever thought maybe he basically hates you guys' my subconscious mind makes a powerful pointer.

Stepping into the  the hallway it was already filled with chaos and noise as people prepared for game night.I successfully navigated my way in the sea of over excited college students to my locker and pack my books before my locker was shut infront of my face followed by Elena's voice clearly unfazed by my shock.

"Oh my God did you see Jose , he's walking from the gym and oh my God those muscles ,that chin,-" she shuts her mouth as l take a deep breath from her rant

"A warning would have been awesome." I exclaim

"Does he do chin workouts. Cause damn it's illegal to have that chiseled chin." She abruptly stops and looks at m

"Hi to you too. I am so fine you know after last week of missing school and yes my little angel she's doing okay. How you,". Rolling my eyes at her opening the closed locker once again.

"I was rambling right?" She asks with guilt laced in her voice

"I am sorry how's the fever now." She tries to give a half smile apology and she offers me her chocolate as peace offering.

I brush it off as l tell just how fine both Kayla and myself have been as we head towards the parking lot where we find our gay best friend Grayson leaning on my car.

"Looking much better mamacita." He greets me with a cheek kiss and giving one to Elena as well. His handsomeness and voice will make other girls want to change preferable sexuality but trust me and believe l am past that stage. I got eyes and they see things too so don't be too quick to judge me.

"Much better thank you," and l give Elena that 'take notes 'eye and she scoffs in response

"Pep rally today?." He asks typing away in his phone.

"Movie night with Kayla." My response came out automated winced l always use Kayla as an excuse.

"Obviously wouldn't miss Josė's game for anything." She happily nods in his direction like a lost puppy .

"Okay see you tomorrow okay," Grayson walks away,

"That's definitely a booty call." Elena states looking at his figure before it disappeared in the crowd.

"Yep.You  dropping by my workplace after the game."

She nods and bids me goodbye as she makes her way towards the library to probably check out some Mills and Boon books and. l get in my old well taken care of car to pick my little angel from her pre school. Kayla greets me with a kiss that never fails to brighten my day at any time of the day.

"Hi mommy." She flashes her million dollar toothless smile

"Hey monkey." I kiss her forehead "how was school." As l buckle her seat belt.

"Oh my God you won't believe what happened today ...."

And she starts to rant about how her day is always better than as we drive towards the diner , my workplace as l happily listen to her voice. Arriving at the place Kayla sprints to Mrs Jackson's office

"Slow down." I yell after her

Exchanging the shift , l notify everyone how packed it was going to be because of the game night and l quickly slipped away from the room before they give a million reasons on what l am missing because apparently game nights were the best part of college according to them.

"Pep rally?"  Only Peter asks nicely

"You know it ." I smile at him

And just like always l start to work, flash a beautiful smile here with kindness wrapped in them and ladies and gents that's how l get huge tips .

As l worked to finish my shift with an hour left ,the college students walking in the place filling the silent and peaceful place with noise and chaos. Thank God this was my last hour. They always let me attend to them, due to my patience and tolerance levels and above all how l just don't care.

Clearing my throat.

"What can l get you?" Fishing for my notepad in my apron and flip it  through to a fresh page and then looks up to meet their faces worse more Rachael's eyes, the queen of campus so she calls herself.

"Burgers and fries and beer will be fine." Lucas breaks the silence

"How's the cutie doing today." One of the team members asks l  smile just at the mention of Kayla brings me happiness

"She's fine thanks for asking." I politely reply.

"He wasn't flirting with you, you know. Calm your tits.He was just trying to find out how your bastard child is doing." Rachael states as a matter of fact.

I scoff and laugh ,and just walk away fighting every born of my body wanting to give her a peace of mind . I place their orders and  start cleaning the empty tables.Elena walks and sits on the stool that's along the countertops at an angle she can steal glances at Jose obviously.

"How' was the game ." I ask as l sort out the coffee and sugar sachets.

"It was just awesome you should have seen Jose play he was just oh God not even words can describe it." Elena days dreams

"Is Jose the only one you see the whole match l mean the opposite team can get hotties too." I lightly laugh.

"Is that even a question.I will forever stay loyal to Jose." She replies pretty much offended.

"Okay that's good for you." Remaining silent

"Have some fun Kira. Kayla would want you to be happy. You deserve some fun and happiness too.Speaking of where's my goddaughter."she changes the subject looking everywhere around the shop.

"She's in Mrs Jackson's office. I will honestly try something but not with anyone who just wants to be in my pants all the time. I told you when l see someone promising l will let him in and we see where it goes."

She shrugs and stands to steal Kayla away from Mrs Jacksons as l pack the sauces in the cupboard.

"Where's my kiss." Elena asks sweetly with a pout

"You didn't bring my ice cream Aunt Lena." She pouts folding her arms.

"That was our little secret." Elena warning her of my presence.

"Mommy Aunt Lena wants me to eat ice cram in the evening ." My smart baby betrayer

"Traitor." Lena laughs

"I mma go change my uniform okay." I dismiss myself

I was back in the diner in my clothes within a short space of time

"And where did she go this time." I ask Elena looking for Kayla around the diner before they landed on her figure and  l see her tugging on Chris' jacket who didn't budge the first but did the  second time.

"Even your baby has some great and better taste in men than you." Elena puts it as a remark.

I mean okay Chris is well built, he's handsome and all but there's no way he's going to pay attention to someone like me worse more to go for a relationship with me or anyone at the time cause he apparently said relationships will lure him away from being drafted for NFL.

So l don't waste my time trying to make him notice but l prefer it that he does it first before l do. I look at the time and it's time we go home and eat so

"You going to get her or ...? I ask Elena

"Nope Jose is there."

"Girl how do you Jose to see you when all you do is run away from him." I ask her and she just shrugs again and in return l just sigh.

Walking towards the crowded table keeping Kayla in my line of eyesight, what she utters made me stand glued on my sport  followed by the table is silence and she has a receives a shocked wide eyed looking Chris and the rest of the table towards her.
