Author: Six Dollars
The recipient’s address was 17-1203, Bayfront Apartment.

He had left a remark with the delivery request. [Must be signed by the recipient in person. No other family members are allowed to receive goods.]

I stared at the second sentence for a very long time.

No family members were allowed…

Joe Anderson and I were married for six years. Whenever he went away for work, he would store his keys in the second drawer near our foyer.

He would say, “Aria, take care of our household.”

I took care of his parents, and I helped run his errands. I even helped him to communicate with the family members of his staff members.

I thought that I was his family.

But it turned out that he had hidden the matter about the jewelry set from me.

My phone buzzed on the table.

It was a text from Joe.

[I’ve just passed a gulf. The signal is weak.]

I responded with just one word. [Alright.]

He probably did not expect such a short message. He sent me another text in two minutes.

[Why didn’t you ask me if I had my lunch today?]

I shut his logbook.

[Have you eaten then?]

He replied to my text very quickly.

[Yes, I did.]

I looked at the screen and laughed.

Despite his unstable signal, he replied to me very quickly.

The next morning, I went to Bayfront Apartment.

It was the most expensive seaview apartment in Peace Harbor. It was only ten minutes away from the jetty.

The security guard asked me who I was looking for.

I showed him the shipping details.

“17-1203. I need to verify the received goods.”

The security guard saw the remark and immediately turned polite.

“Please wait for a moment. Ms. Smith is at home.”

‘Ms. Smith…’ I repeated the name to myself.

When I went up the elevator, Joe video-called me.

I did not answer the call.

He called three consecutive times.

The fourth time, he sent me a text.

[Where are you?]

I replied, [Grocery shopping.]

He sent another text. [Be careful. I’m not there with you. You can’t do everything on your own.]

The elevator doors opened. The doors to 17-1203 were also open.

Mia Smith was wearing silk pajamas and a diamond necklace shaped like a wave.

She saw me and touched her necklace with her finger.

“Who are you?”

I said, “I’m Aria.”

Her smile froze on her face for a short while before she regained her composure.

“Ah… Mrs. Anderson.”

When she called me Mrs. Anderson, she sounded confident and secure.

Mia invited me into her apartment.

I saw a few opened delivery boxes in the living room. There were some wrapping papers from overseas on her coffee table.

I saw a pair of earrings, a bracelet, and a note.

It was clearly Joe’s handwriting.

[Waves should be worn by people who understand the sea.]

When Joe and I got married, he gave me a marine watch.

The strap was coarse, so it irritated my skin when I wore it.

He said, “As a captain’s wife, you should wear something that represents the ship.”

I wore it for six years.

Then, he gave someone else waves-themed jewelry and said that she understood the sea.

Mia passed me a glass of water.

“Are you here to collect your item?”

I did not take the glass offered.

“The gifts that Joe bought me were sent to you.”

She laughed.

“Mrs. Anderson, you should ask him who the items belong to. Didn’t you see the receiver’s address?”

I said, “I did.”

I took out my phone and took a photo of the note on the coffee table.

Mia tried to stop me.

“You’re being disrespectful."

I looked at her.

“Is it respectful of you to receive jewelry from a married man?”

Her face fell.

“I believe Joe told you that I knew him earlier than you did.”

I nodded.

“So you waited for six years… It must’ve been a difficult wait.”

When the staff member stamped the papers, Joe shut his eyes. After the divorce was finalized, I took off the old wedding ring. It had our initials engraved inside and looked a little worn. Joe’s breathing became heavier when he saw that. “Can you give the ring to me?” I said, “No.” After I left, I sold the ring to a pawn shop. It did not sell for much. I used that money to buy a new dress for Helen. When she received it, she immediately teared up. “Aria, I can’t take this!” “Please accept it as a congratulatory gift for Luke’s temporary assignment as the captain of Horizon Ship.” She whispered, “He didn’t want to get promoted just as a replacement for Captain Anderson.” I said, “He’s not. The company is aware of his capability.” Very soon, East Shipping Corporation came out with a statement. Joe lost the opportunity to be promoted to general captain and was sent away for six months of training. He would no longer be the captain of Horizon Ship.Mia had to

I agreed to that. After all, it was only thirty days. He sent me gifts every single day. He brought me food, flowers, medicine, and souvenirs. I returned every single thing. On the seventh day, he waited for me at the hotel lobby. “Aria, I was a jerk in the past.”I walked past him, and he followed. “Didn’t you always wish for me to arrive home safely? Now that I’m here, you won’t even look at me.”I paused. “Maybe I wished for you to be safe, but that doesn’t mean I want to take you back.”His face turned pale. “Do you really not love me anymore?”I did not answer. I had loved him for so long that I could no longer remember when I had stopped loving him. Mia did not give up. She posted long articles on her social media account. She claimed that she was just a partner promoting the port, but she was wrongfully attacked by the captain’s wife. She cropped the jewelry from her photo and only revealed her swollen eyes. The comments were vilifying me. [Eve

Joe’s lips quivered. “I didn’t ask her to submit this.” Ben said, “The account belongs to you, and the verification code was sent to your personal phone number.” Joe fell quiet. I looked at him. “Did you use my name to rent out Bayfront Apartment?”“Mia said she couldn’t find a place to rent, so I wanted to help her just for that.” I laughed. “By using my name?”He lowered his head. “I thought it was just a few things. I thought no one would look into it.”Ben’s face darkened. “Captain Anderson, please be mindful of your words. The allowance for family members is a part of the project expense, not your personal bank account.” It was then that Joe realized he had messed up. He looked at me and lowered his voice. “Aria, I really didn’t mean to hurt you.” I asked, “Really? Did you think of me when you did all this?”He did not answer. The answer was already clear. Someone opened the door to the meeting room. Another staff member led Mia in. When she saw

“She was the one who wanted to meet me.”“She was sobbing. She told me you threatened her with a voice recording.” I pulled out my phone and played the voice recording from the cafe. When Mia said that Joe no longer loved me, Joe’s face fell. When the recording went on to repeat what Mia had said about her not needing to do anything to win Joe over, he whispered, “Turn that off.” I stopped playing the recording. He sat on the couch silently, and I continued to pack my bags. He suddenly asked, “Where are you going?”“I’m moving out.” “This is our home.” “Soon, it won’t be.” He stood up. “Aria, I’ve told you I’ll cut Mia off. What else do you want?”I shut my suitcase. “You can’t handle her.” “I can.” “You won’t be able to leave her.”His face paled. His phone started ringing. It was a call from Mia. Joe stared at his phone but did not answer it. The phone stopped ringing before it rang again. He still did not answer it. I walked out with my suitcase

“I know you have the right to look into the ship, but can you withdraw the request?”“You never asked about what my father left me. Now, when you’re in trouble and can finally see what I’m capable of, you need my help? It’s too late.”Joe put the notice down. He looked genuinely afraid for the first time. “Aria, you can’t continue this investigation.”I asked, “Are you afraid of not getting promoted?”“No.”He paused. “I’m afraid it’ll affect the whole crew.” He walked over and grabbed my shoulders. “Listen to me. I’ll get rid of Mia and take everything back. You have to withdraw the request.” I asked, “After I withdraw it, will you continue using my stamp for authorization purposes?” He looked defeated. “I was wrong.” It was the first time he admitted his mistake. However, it was not because he had hurt me. It was because I was a threat to him. Mia requested to meet me. We met at a cafe near Bayfront Apartment. She was not wearing the necklace, but she w

That night, I went to the guest room. Joe stood before my door. “Aria, let’s not sleep in separate bedrooms.” I made the bed. “When you’re away for ten months, I slept alone anyway.” He was at a loss for words. After a while, he softened the tone of his voice and said, “I’ll get Mia to return the jewelry.”“They’re dirty.” “I’ll buy you new ones.” “There’s no need.” He walked in and tried to grab the blanket from my hands. I avoided him. He looked angry. “What else do you want? I’m already giving in a lot.” I said, “I want a divorce.”He stared at me. “Even if you have the right to investigate the matter, we’ve been married for six years. Do you have to burn all bridges like this?”I fluffed my pillows. “I don’t wish to repeat myself.” He snorted. He still thought I was being unreasonable. “This is how the world works. Do you think you can change everything just because you’re angry?”I ignored him. Joe saw that I had made up my mind, so he stopped
