My attention was half on what Mike was saying. I was lost in thought, thinking about what Mia had told me. It had come as a shock to realize that Mia had been under Ryan's thumb all this while, doing his bidding. I was grateful for whatever lucky chance had made Alexa eavesdrop and hear Mia's conversation. The sound of my phone ringing brought me out of my reverie. I started a little.

"Alexa's calling," Mike said with a glance at my phone which lay between us.

I grunted, picked up quickly.

"I'm listening," I said as soon as I picked up the call.

Mike leaned forward to talk to the driver, and I used that opportunity to shift a little to the far side of the car. This was not a conversation I wanted him to overhear.

"You already left the house," remarked Alexa.

"Yes," I responded.

"I hope you still remember the plan."

"Yes."
