I shifted a little in my chair, impatient for the council meeting to get to the stage I had been dreaming about all these days. I looked around at all the pack members seated in the council chamber. All eyes were trained on the front of the room, at the round table where the men who would give fair judgment on who was to become Alpha, sat. I was not the only one stealing glances around the room.

Zale, who was a claimant of the Alpha title sat at the end of the table also, opposite from me. It was obvious that he was in a state of barely suppressed excitement. His eyes met mine, and he smirked before looking away. I hid a grin. He was in for a shock even though he did not know it yet.

There was a loud thump that echoed around the room. Conversation ceased immediately. One of the chief council members, the one with a grizzled beard slowly got to his feet.
