KHAI’S POV

“We’ve had a decline in the food supply over the last two weeks. The farmers are too scared to go out because of the attacks by Ragnar and his men. And with the massive parties that have taken place these past two days, the food left in storage for our people will last roughly three weeks,” my Chief of Agriculture and Food Control said, his voice tense.

I sat in the boardroom with the rest of my council members, a fist propping up my chin as I listened to report after report from my commanders. Not a single one was good.

I turned to my Chief of Defence and said, “Have more men secure the farmlands to give the farmers confidence. This is not the time for our people to cower in fear of Ragnar.”

This was a fucking mess. We were playing right into Ragnar’s game. My own people feared him more than they feared me.
