Sabrina’s POV.

The elevator ride to the third floor felt like an eternity. The hallway of Tara’s building smelled like floor wax and old dust—a stark, gritty contrast to the leather and sandalwood scent that lingered on my clothes from Cole’s SUV.

He will come for you.

Cole’s warning echoed in my mind with every step I took toward the apartment. I tried to shake it off. I was safe here. Tara was my best friend, she was neutral ground. Leon wouldn't dare cause a scene in a public building.

I reached the door and knocked, my knuckles barely grazing the wood before it flew open.

Tara stood there, her hair messy and her eyes wide with panic. The moment she saw me, her shoulders sagged in relief.

"Sabrina!"

I didn't even have the energy to say hello. I just collapsed forward, and she caught me, dragging me inside and kicking the door shut with her foot. The sound of the deadbolt sliding home should have been comforting, but the knot in my stomach didn't loosen.

"I’ve got you," she whispere

Sabrina’s POV.Six months had passed since that dinner by the ocean. Six months since the storm that destroyed the Adams dynasty finally broke, leaving behind a clear, open sky.Six months of peace. Six months of healing. Six months of watching my body change from a vessel of trauma into a home for life.It was a strange sensation, waking up every morning without a knot of dread in my stomach. For years, my life had been defined by the next crisis, the next insult from Alice, or the next cold shoulder from Leon. Silence had been something to fear because it usually meant a storm was gathering. But now? Silence was just peace. It was the sound of the wind against the penthouse glass, the hum of the refrigerator, and the steady, reassuring beat of my own heart.I stood in the center of the nursery in the penthouse, running my hand over the smooth, unfinished wood of the crib. We hadn't moved to the Santa Barbara villa yet—Dr. Evans was adamant that I stay close to Cedars-Sinai for until

Sabrina’s POV."I was thinking," Cole said, swirling the amber liquid in his glass, the ice clinking softly against the crystal. "About the nursery."I paused, my fork midway to my mouth, the rich aroma of the lobster risotto momentarily forgotten. "The nursery?""I know it's early," he said quickly, a rare hint of boyish nervousness creeping into his voice. "But I was looking at colors today between meetings. I think yellow. Pale yellow. It’s happy. It’s bright. It feels like a fresh start."I laughed, a genuine, bubbling sound that felt light in my chest. "Yellow is perfect, Cole. Leon always wanted everything to be beige or grey. 'Timeless,' he called it. I always thought it was lifeless, like living inside a rainy day that never ended. He wanted the house to look like a museum where nothing was allowed to grow or change.""No beige," Cole promised, his eyes locking onto mine with a fierce intensity. "We’ll have yellow walls and a mobile with little gold stars on it. And maybe thos

Sabrina’s POV.Vance left shortly after finishing his coffee, the heavy, metallic click of the front door locking behind him signaling a shift in the atmosphere. The penthouse, which had felt like a high-tech fortress for the last week, suddenly felt like a home again. The smell of blueberry pancakes lingered in the air, sweet and domestic, battling the scent of the rain-washed city outside. I sat on the barstool, scraping the last bit of syrup from my plate, feeling a kind of fullness I hadn't experienced in months. It wasn’t just the food, it was the absence of the knots in my stomach.Cole was leaning against the granite island, watching me with a look so intense it made my toes curl. He reached out, his thumb brushing away a crumb from the corner of my lip."You look better," he said, his voice a low rumble. "Color is coming back to your cheeks.""I feel better," I admitted, resting my hand on his forearm. "It’s strange. The world is the same as it was yesterday, but it looks comp

Sabrina’s POV.The storm had finally passed.I woke up to the sound of silence. No rain hammering against the glass. No wind howling. Just the soft, steady hum of the city below waking up to a clear sky.I stretched in the massive bed, my hand instinctively going to my stomach. There was no movement yet—it was too early for that—but the slight, firm curve was there under my palm. I pressed my hand against the warmth, grounding myself.Hello, little one.For the first time in months, I didn't wake up with a knot of dread in my chest. I didn't reach for my phone to check for new hate comments or threatening texts from Leon.I felt... light.I slipped out of bed and walked out to the living area. The penthouse was flooded with morning sunlight, making the dust motes dance in the air. It looked like a completely different world from the dark, tense bunker it had been last night.Cole was standing on the balcony, leaning against the railing with a mug of coffee in his hand. He was wearing

Leon’s POV.The Chateau Marmont rose from the hillside like a gothic castle, its spires piercing the storm clouds that hung low over Sunset Boulevard. It was a place of secrets, of Hollywood debauchery, and of ghosts.Tonight, I was adding one more ghost to its roster.I parked my rental car two blocks away, in the shadow of a construction site. I couldn't risk the valet recognizing me, even in my disheveled state. I pulled my collar up against the driving rain and began the walk up the winding driveway. The rain plastered my hair to my skull and soaked through the thin fabric of my cheap suit, but I didn't feel the cold. I felt a burning, furnace-like heat in my chest, radiating from the pocket where the switchblade rested against my hip.I bypassed the main lobby. I knew this hotel better than I knew my own soul. I had spent my twenties here, hosting parties, closing deals, and cheating on girlfriends. I knew the service entrance near the garden bungalows. I knew that the lock on th

Leon’s POV.The wrought-iron gates of my mother’s mansion were closed against the storm, but I knew the code. 1-9-8-5. My birth year. The only thing she ever claimed to love.I punched it into the keypad, and the gates swung open with a rusty groan. I drove my rental car up the long, winding driveway. The house loomed ahead—a massive Georgian estate that I had always associated with safety, warmth, and unshakeable superiority. Now, stripped of its staff and shrouded in darkness, it looked like a tomb.I parked haphazardly on the gravel and ran to the front door, the rain soaking my cheap suit instantly. I didn't knock. I used my key—the brass one I had kept on my ring since I was sixteen."Mother!" I shouted, my voice echoing in the grand foyer. The crystal chandelier above was dark. The air smelled stale, like old wax and secrets."Leon?" Her voice came from the drawing room, calm and imperious. "What on earth are you doing bursting in here like a hooligan? And look at you... you loo
