Ciara’s POV

“Are you okay, little moon?”

Dax’s voice was low, and rough around the edges. He stood there dripping, towel forgotten in one hand, every inch of him carved from shadow and sin.

Water traced slow, glistening paths down his chest

Dax’s POVVaerath did not give us an address, but she gave us enough. The moment Inara saw the Eye symbol, something inside her had recognized it, and after the worst of the memory attack passed, she managed to describe one place clearly enough for Ayla to identify it. An old coastal relay sat beyond the western cliffs, abandoned since the Veilborn war and buried beneath enough collapsed stone that no sane person would have bothered looking there without a reason. Vaerath remembered the Eye carved above one of its inner passages. That was enough for me.By the time we reached the coast, the sky had gone dark and the sea below the cliffs looked almost black. Marcus came with me while Ayla remained under guard behind us, and although Asher wanted to follow, I left him with Inara because she was still recovering and Vaerath’s memories were becoming less predictable every time she forced them. The relay entrance had once been hidden behind a wall of carved stone, but time had cracked most

  • Pregnant For My Father-in-Law   Chapter 330: The Command in My Blood

Jasper’s POVI stayed beside Ciara long after the purple current disappeared from beneath her skin. She had settled back into a deep sleep as if nothing had happened, one hand resting near her stomach while her breathing slowly evened out. Anyone walking into the room would have seen a pregnant woman recovering from exhaustion, but I could still hear that name in my head.My old name. The one Nyssara had used.I had not heard it spoken in centuries, and hearing it from Ciara’s mouth should have made me happy. Some sick part of me had always wanted proof that something of Nyssara still remembered me, but now that I had it, all I could feel was unease because the woman sleeping in front of me did not know that name.Something older inside her did.I reached toward her face, then stopped before touching her because a sudden heat spread beneath my ribs.At first, I thought it was nothing more than exhaustion, but the warmth sharpened so quickly that my breath caught. I lowered my hand and

  • Pregnant For My Father-in-Law   Chapter 329: Vaerath Remembers Him

Inara’s POVBy the time the medic finally said most of the suppressant was out of my system, I wanted to bite him, although he had technically done nothing wrong. I was simply tired of needles, bitter fluids and being ordered to lie still while every part of me felt scraped hollow. Asher had stayed close through all of it, which should have annoyed me more than it did, but somewhere around the third round of treatment, I stopped telling him to leave. He barely spoke unless I spoke first, though whenever nausea twisted through me or my vision blurred, I could feel him watching from somewhere close enough to catch me if I fell.More importantly, Vaerath was awake again. She was not completely herself yet, but I could feel her moving beneath my skin now, feeling heavy and restless instead of drowned beneath Ayla’s drugs. Her thoughts were clearer too, although they rarely came as proper sentences. Mostly, I received instinct, pressure, flashes of images and emotions strong enough to mak

  • Pregnant For My Father-in-Law   Chapter 328: My Wife Again

Jasper’s POVI had spent most of the night sitting outside Ciara’s room like an idiot. The doctor said she needed uninterrupted sleep, so I forced myself not to go in every ten minutes, but that did not stop me from checking the monitor feed or listening for movement through the door. By morning, the worst of the fear had eased. She was awake, the baby was stable and for the first time since I carried her out of that compound, nobody was actively trying to take her from me.That should have been enough to let me breathe. It wasn’t.When I finally entered her room, Ciara was already out of bed and sitting near the balcony doors with a blanket around her shoulders. Breakfast sat untouched beside her, and she was staring at the ocean like she expected it to answer whatever questions were still swimming around in her head. She looked pale and tired, but when she turned and saw me, she did not flinch and that alone nearly ruined me.“You’re supposed to be in bed,” I said as I stepped insid

  • Pregnant For My Father-in-Law   Chapter 327: The Son I Raised

Dax’s POVThe western transit point looked empty until Marcus showed me what Jasper had left behind. Two vehicles had departed within minutes of each other, one heading north along an abandoned service road while the second cut south toward neutral territory. Both carried Veilborn residue, both had traces of Ciara’s scent worked into the interiors and neither trail looked carelessly planted. Jasper had known we would reach this place and had prepared two believable answers for the moment we did.One of the trackers returned from the southern road and crouched beside Marcus. “Same current on both. Whoever did this knew exactly how much residue to leave. We can follow them, but I can’t tell you which one carried her.”I looked from one road to the other. Chasing one vehicle with everyone I had was exactly what Jasper wanted, and standing there debating which lie looked prettier was even worse. “Split the trackers. Half north, half south, but nobody throws full force behind either trail

  • Pregnant For My Father-in-Law   Chapter 326: Something Is Missing

Ciara’s POVPain woke me before anything else did.It sat behind my eyes like something had been driven into my skull, sharp enough that even opening them made my stomach turn. I groaned and tried to move, only to realize there was an arm around me and somebody’s face buried against the side of my neck.Panic came instantly and I jerked hard, and the movement sent another stab through my head.“Don’t touch me!”The man holding me pulled back so quickly that his arm disappeared from around my waist, but instead of anger, his face crumpled with relief. His eyes were red and there were tears on his cheeks, and for several seconds he only stared at me like he had been waiting to see whether I would ever open my eyes again.“Thank God.” His voice broke on the words. “Fuck, thank God. You’re awake.”I stared at him while my breathing became faster.Dark hair, familiar eyes and a bruised jaw, something inside me knew his face should mean something, but the harder I tried to reach for the mem
