Ciara’s POV

I fucked my father-in-law… again.

And guess what?

I wasn’t drowning in guilt this time.

No choking shame clawing up my throat. No sick twist in my stomach forcing me to scrub his scent off my skin like it was poison. No frantic voice in my head screaming..what have you done?

Instead, when my eyes fluttered open to cold sheets and an empty side of the bed, all I felt was disappointment.

A sharp, quiet and aching one.

He was gone.

No warm body curled around mine. No low growl rumbling

  • Pregnant For My Father-in-Law   Chapter 348: The Place He Left Empty

Ciara's POVDax had been following me around the estate for most of the day, and I was beginning to wonder whether he had forgotten he was supposed to be running an entire empire especially with how complicated things are currently areHe followed me when I went to check on Mom, stood quietly near the door while I spent almost an hour with Valerio, and even accompanied me to the medical wing when I decided to visit Inara. He wasn't doing anything particularly annoying, which somehow made the whole thing more difficult. Whenever I looked at him, he would either ask if I needed something or simply wait for me to continue whatever I was doing, and not once had he attempted to stop me from going anywhere.I knew what he was doing, of course. Dax Blackthorne had never been particularly good at apologizing with words, so apparently he had decided to make himself useful until I figured out what to do with him.Unfortunately for him, I wasn't ready to make that decision. At least Mom and Vale

  • Pregnant For My Father-in-Law   Chapter 347: The Death They Invented

Author's POV“Cici?”Valerio's voice was barely more than a whisper, but it was enough to make Ciara forget the blood running from her nose and the way her legs had almost given out. Dax steadied her until she could reach the bed, then stepped aside as she caught her brother's hand. His fingers were cold and weak, yet when she pressed them against her cheek, they moved to touch her tears.“It's me, Val.” Her attempt at a smile failed. “You scared me so much.”He stared at her, blinking slowly. For several seconds, his expression held the helpless confusion of someone waking in a place he didn't recognize. Then he studied her face again, from her eyes to the familiar way her mouth trembled when she was trying not to cry. “You've grown up,” he murmured.Ciara laughed and cried at the same time. “Well, you did take your time coming back.” She immediately regretted the words, but Valerio's lips curved faintly, and the sight nearly undid her all over again. His gaze travelled lower, stoppi

  • Pregnant For My Father-in-Law   Chapter 346: The Chain Beneath His Mind

Ciara’s POVBy the time Mom finally fell asleep, the medical wing had gone quiet. I stayed beside her for a while longer, watching the tension slowly leave her face until her breathing became steady, then carefully eased my fingers from hers and pulled the blanket higher over her shoulders. She had cried herself into exhaustion, and after everything she had already lost, I hated knowing there was still one enormous truth sitting beneath this same estate that I could not give her yet. When I stepped into the hallway, Dax was waiting across from the door with a food container in one hand and two bottles in the other. Someone had cleaned most of the blood from his face, but the exhaustion around his eyes remained, and when he straightened at the sight of me, he seemed to reconsider whatever he had originally planned to say.“Ella made these,” he said, lifting the food slightly. “She just sent them.”I looked from the container to him and sighed. There were too many things between us that

  • Pregnant For My Father-in-Law   Chapter 345: What Remains of Us

Ciara’s POVBy the time we returned to the Blackthorne estate, my body had reached that strange level of exhaustion where everything felt heavy and slightly unreal. Healers moved around us, guards reported what had happened on the island, and people kept trying to convince me to lie down, but most of their voices passed over my head. The baby had already been checked twice and was still moving strongly, Jasper had survived the trip back and was being treated somewhere below, and Dax had finally stopped arguing every time I refused to rest, which probably meant even he was too tired to keep fighting me.Before anyone dragged me into another medical room, there was only one person I wanted to see.Dax walked with me to my mother's room, but when we reached the door, he stopped instead of following me inside. He looked almost as terrible as I felt, with bruises darkening one side of his face and dried blood still staining his clothes, yet he only nodded toward the room and told me, “I'l

  • Pregnant For My Father-in-Law   Chapter 344: What We Did to Each Other

Ciara’s POVThe island did not become peaceful just because Oracle was gone. People were still shouting for healers, Blackthorne soldiers were dragging the injured away from broken walls, and surviving Veilborn stood around looking strangely lost now that the commands inside their bodies had finally gone quiet. Some stared at their hands as if they expected them to move without permission again, while others touched the faded Eye marks beneath their skin with the same confused expression people wore after waking from a nightmare they could not completely remember.Jasper was somewhere behind me surrounded by healers, and every few seconds I found myself looking in that direction even though Ayla had already said he was alive though barely but my entire body felt heavy enough to drop where I stood, yet the baby was still moving beneath my palm, and that small familiar pressure was the only thing keeping me together.Dax stayed close without touching me. I noticed because before all of

  • Pregnant For My Father-in-Law   Chapter 343: The Last War

Author’s POVFor the first time since appearing in the ruined corridor, Oracle looked uncertain, but the hesitation disappeared almost immediately as his face hardened. “So be it.”The Veilborn commander was still kneeling where Ciara had forced him down when the Eye mark at his throat suddenly split with purple-black light. Every marked Veilborn in the corridor jerked at the same time as the command network came alive, and Jasper doubled over when the seal beneath his ribs answered with enough force to reopen the wound he had already torn apart many timesDax stepped in front of Ciara on instinct, golden-red current spreading around his hands, but Oracle barely looked at him. “You still think this is about taking her away.”The floor cracked beneath his feet.A thin black tear appeared in the air above the damaged corridor, no wider than a knife cut at first, but then it stretched slowly until darkness moved behind it like smoke trapped behind glass. Nyssara’s memories recognized it
