Dacre’s pov

A little quiver passed through her body as I knew she was cold. I took off my coat and handed it to her and watched her put it around her thin body.

“You blinked and for a second I thought you were going to freeze there.”

“You’ll get cold,” Grace said as she was worried about me but I shook my head.

“I’m fine. You shouldn’t worry about me. You’re the cold one here.”

“Thanks.” She held onto it as we looked into the night in silence with the only sound we could hear the clacking on computers courtesy of Dante.

It was always like this now—people walking on eggshells around me. Like I was some wild thing that might lash out without warning. I got it. I wasn’t exactly known for my charm. But it still gnawed at me sometimes. The looks. The whispers. The way no one ever really asked if I was okay as they knew I was the great Dacre and I didn’t want anything.
