"Get in!" Jackson shoved Serenity into the backseat of their armored SUV.

Sebastian limped in quickly after her. Luke, who was driving, didn't wait for orders. He slammed on the gas.

The heavy vehicle roared to life, tearing down the narrow cobblestone street of Paris.

Behind them, the black sedan screeched out of its parking spot, giving chase.

"Stay down!" Jackson unholstered his gun. He looked calm, deadly calm.

Bang! Bang!

Two bullets hit the back window of their SUV. Spiderwebs of cracks appeared on the glass, but it didn't shatter.

"Bulletproof," Sebastian nodded approvingly, pulling out an old revolver from his coat. "Fancy car."

"Best money can buy," Jackson replied, watching the mirrors. "Luke, don't go back to the hotel. We can't lead them to Alex and Mia."

"Understood, Boss. Taking the scenic route along the Seine River," Luke swerved hard, drifting around a corner.

Serenity clutched the safety handle, her heart pounding. She looked at Sebastian. The old man was checking the cylinder of his gun with a nostalgic smile.

"Just like the old days," Sebastian mumbled. "Stefan's dogs never learn."

"They are getting closer!" Serenity screamed as the black sedan rammed into their rear bumper.

The impact shook the car violently.

"They want to run us off the bridge," Jackson unbuckled his seatbelt. "Luke, stabilize the car. Open the sunroof."

"Boss? You are not seriously..."

"Open it!"

The sunroof slid open. The cold Paris wind rushed in.

Jackson stood up through the roof, the wind whipping his hair. He aimed his handgun at the car behind them.

He looked like a god of war.

Bang!

He fired a single shot. The bullet hit the front tire of the pursuing sedan.

The tire exploded. The black sedan swerved uncontrollably, spun 360 degrees, and crashed into a street lamp. Smoke started rising from its engine.

Jackson slid back into his seat and closed the roof. He smoothed his suit jacket as if he had just finished a business meeting.

"Threat neutralized," Jackson said coolly.

Serenity stared at him, breathless. Her husband was terrifyingly hot when he was dangerous.

"You... you shot their tire?"

"I aimed for the driver, but the car bumped," Jackson shrugged. "I'm rusty."

Sebastian laughed, a raspy, barking sound. "You remind me of the late Duke. He had the same fire."

Luke checked the GPS. "We lost them, Boss. We are clear."

"Good. Circle back to the hotel. We pack immediately," Jackson commanded. "Paris is burned. Stefan knows we have the tape."

He turned to Serenity and took her hand. His adrenaline was fading, replaced by concern.

"Are you scared?"

"Yes," Serenity admitted, gripping the locket. "But I'm done running. They tried to kill us tonight. They won't stop."

She looked at the flashing lights of the Eiffel Tower in the distance.

"Jackson, let's go to Montbert. Tonight."

"Tonight?" Jackson raised an eyebrow. "It's a war zone."

"We have the tape. We have Sebastian," Serenity looked at the old guard. "And we have Alex to broadcast it. If we strike now, we catch Stefan off guard."

Jackson looked at her fierce expression. She was already thinking like a queen.

"Okay," Jackson brought her knuckles to his lips. "Luke, call the pilot. Wheels up in one hour. Destination: Montbert."

Sparks showered from the ceiling. The sound of tearing metal was deafening. The dining car groaned and tilted violently to the right. Tables, chairs, and expensive wine bottles slid down the slope, crashing into the wall.Jackson slammed one hand into a window frame, his other arm locked around Serenity’s waist. He stopped them from sliding into the pile of broken glass below."Don't let go!" Jackson shouted over the noise.Serenity looked down. Through the shattered window beneath them, she saw nothing but swirling snow and darkness. They were dangling over a canyon."The coupling is breaking!" The Midnight Express tore through the darkness of the Swiss Alps at 300 kilometers per hour.In the exclusive private dining car, crystal glasses jingled softly with the vibration of the tracks. Outside the window, nothing existed but snow and night.Jackson adjusted his cufflinks. Under his tuxedo, he was wearing a ceramic knife taped to his ribs—the only weapon the metal detectors didn't pick up.Serenity sat opposite him, looking breathtaking in a black velvet gown. She held a clutch that contained a small vial of Margaret’s anti-serum."Nervous?" Jackson asked, pouring her water."I’m having dinner with the man who tried to kidnap our children," Serenity’s eyes were cold. "I’m not nervous. I’m restraining myself from stabbing him with a fork.""Patience," Jackson whispered. The door at the end of the car slid open.A man walked in.He looked nothing like a villain. "Close your eyes," Liam commanded softly. The nursery was dimly lit. Aurora and Alex lay on the large rug, pillows under their heads. Liam sat between them in a lotus position. Jackson and Serenity watched from the couch, feeling useless but alert."Grandpa, this is unscientific," Alex muttered, keeping one eye open. "Telepathy isn't real.""Quantum entanglement is," Liam placed a finger on Alex's forehead and another on Aurora's. "Connect."A pulse of violet light rippled through the room. The Dreamscape.Alex gasped. He wasn't on the rug anymore. He was standing on an endless plane of pure white water. The sky was white.
