Pregnant and Abandoned at Death's Door
Penulis: Greedy Kitty

Chapter 1

Penulis: Greedy Kitty
I stepped into Alessandro Pushkin's mansion in the Hillcrest estates during an upper-class party in full swing. In my cheap sequined bodycon dress, I looked like a walking virus to them.

A gunshot rang out. The bullet grazed past me and hit the floor.

"Alessandro! Your security is slacking off. A vagrant just wandered in!"

I looked up toward the voice and saw the man I came for. Alessandro stood with his arm around the blonde who had just fired the gun, and she was staring at me with utter disgust on her face.

"Relax, Cristina. Next time, I'll teach you how to put the safety on first."

Alessandro stroked Cristina Romano's hand affectionately and took the misfired gun from her.

"Why would I need the safety on? You never use yours." Cristina smiled seductively as she reached for Alessandro's crotch.

That bullet had nearly killed me, but they didn't care. They just kept flirting. And the man I'd sold my blood and body to save, the man I'd given everything for, hadn't even glanced at me yet.

"Miss, if you don't want to get hurt, please leave."

Two security guards approached me, treating me like some common thief.

I didn't move. Watching those two kiss on the second floor felt like slow torture.

"Alessandro! Have you forgotten who saved you three months ago when you were bleeding out? Have you forgotten you promised to marry me once you dealt with the traitors?

"I sold my blood during the day and my body at night to pay your medical bills, and now you've completely forgotten me?"

At my furious shout, the people around me stopped dancing and turned to stare. But I knew none of these elites truly cared. They just wanted fresh gossip.

"Who is she?"

"Is she joking?"

"Why would the heir to the biggest Lussian syndicate in Melcina marry her? What's she dreaming about?"

The mocking voices piled up, hammering my dignity into the ground. My eyes burned with unshed tears as I looked up at Alessandro.

He finally looked at me. His expression reminded me of someone finding a toy truck they'd lost as a toddler—not particularly excited, just vaguely remembering it existed.

I'd given almost everything for him, yet I meant nothing.

"Cecilia? I was planning to send someone for you. But I forgot where you lived." He smiled, his tone casual.

"I thought something happened to you! I called you over and over!" I demanded.

"Oh? They must have been filtered as spam."

My heart went ice cold. I was such a fool. Even after seeing the tabloid photos of him and Cristina, I still thought I needed to see his betrayal with my own eyes to believe it.

He had once placed the family ring in my hand and promised, "Cecilia, wait for me. When I come back, you won't have to struggle anymore. I'll prove myself to my father and make you the future Madre of the Pushkin family."

He clearly didn't give a damn about his family's honor anymore. What was I even doing here?

"Alessandro, I should've left you in the gutter where I found you!" I shook my head in disappointment.

Alessandro still wore that superior expression, his tone growing impatient. "Alright, Cecilia. You want money? I'll pay you five times your usual rate.

"You just stay here and clean the place. That way you won't have to strip anymore."

After saying that, he didn't look at me again. He lowered his head to kiss Cristina's neck. Cristina's lips curved into a smile, as if she'd thought of something entertaining.

"She used to strip? Let's have some fun."

She clapped her hands. Someone brought over several trays piled with cash.

"What was your name again? Whatever. Start moving. Don't stop until I say so, and all this is yours."

She tipped the tray over. Bills floated down like snow. I knew she wanted to humiliate me, but I would take back my dignity my own way.

The band started playing sultry music. I stared at Cristina and let my fury become fuel.

I began moving to the rhythm. As I danced, even the people who'd mocked me earlier fell quiet. The smile on Cristina's face gradually froze.

"How boring. I want to see something else now." She raised a champagne glass filled with ice and threw it at me.

The bone-chilling liquid poured over me, forcing me to stop.

"Hey! Cristina, you should've waited until she stripped before you did that!" Alessandro's tone held no sympathy. Only annoyance that his show got interrupted.

That complete indifference felt colder than the ice water.

I stared at the pair on the second floor and said coldly, "A second ago, I was thinking about letting you both go. But now I'm going to think very carefully about how to set up your downfall."

"The doctor told me if you want to keep this baby, they'll have to perform a C-section two months early. And you might not survive the surgery."Once my condition stabilized, the doctors allowed family visits.Dad sat at my bedside. After just one week, his voice had grown even more hoarse. When I didn't respond, he shook his head helplessly and continued, "That Pushkin brat is outside right now. He's begging me to let him see you.""Which one? Alessandro or Ivan?""If Alessandro dared show his face, he'd already be sleeping with the fishes."Dad's words made me smile despite everything."Let him in, Dad.""Alright. I'll be right outside." After his warning, Dad pushed through the door. When it opened again, Ivan entered with the top two buttons of his shirt undone, disheveled hair, and several days' worth of stubble on his jaw. The unkempt look only made him more attractive."Monica." He tried to keep his tone controlled, but worry bled through anyway."I think you know t

The surprise I'd arranged for Alessandro arrived fashionably late. I signaled my men to let her in.Cristina's hair was a mess, her clothes disheveled, and she wore only one shoe. Gossip and mockery rippled through the crowd.I watched from a distance, struck by the parallel between her today and me back then.Cristina rushed toward Peter. "Uncle Peter, where are you hiding Alessandro? Tell him to get out here and face me!"She acted like she was collecting a debt, completely ignoring proper decorum. Don Pushkin's hand cracked across her face."Your Aunt Nina can't even keep you under control, and now you're here embarrassing me!"I walked over and looked down at Cristina. My investigation had been right. She was Alessandro's cousin, not some childhood sweetheart. Their relationship was incestuous.Cristina looked up, squinting against the sunlight that hurt her eyes. It took her a moment to focus on my face."Am I seeing a ghost?" Cristina's voice sounded thick, like she had p

The moment Ivan heard my name, surprise, sorrow, and reluctance flashed through his eyes. Then, he slowly released my arm.I guessed he must have heard my name before. The one Don Pushkin had mentioned, the woman about to become his future sister-in-law.While he stood there lost in thought, I quietly pushed open the door and left the record shop. It was one of the properties that had been part of my mother's wedding gift. But I felt no joy from my success.Compared to Alessandro, Ivan had a calm and elegant presence. The devotion in his eyes was genuine, not some passing infatuation. It was an obsession with his late wife, and something stirred inexplicably in my heart. When I returned home, I began preparing for the engagement party. The guest list the Pushkin family had submitted didn't include Cristina, which disappointed me slightly. But I figured they wanted to avoid complications with my engagement to Alessandro. The day of the engagement arrived, and guests arrived steadi

"We have to accept the marriage alliance, but I know the Pushkin family has more than one son," I answered without hesitation."True. Their eldest, Ivan, is quite an impressive young man. But the old bastard says his firstborn is devoted to his dead wife. Even three years after she passed, he refuses to remarry." Dad sounded disappointed. How absurd. Did the Pushkin family specialize in producing devoted lovers? This was funnier than any stand-up routine I'd ever heard.Dad didn't know the details. He looked at me strangely, confused by my inappropriate laughter.I shrugged."I think I can handle him. But Dad, I need complete files on them. I want to know everything about the Pushkin family.""Monica, why didn't you take over the family business sooner? Some things require your touch, not your brothers'."Dad opened his arms, gesturing for me to come closer. I embraced him, and the familiar scent of his cigars was comforting."Alright, business is done. Now let's talk about you

I threw myself into the one-eyed man's arms and sobbed. He stroked my back the way he used to when I was little. "Don't do this, Monica. We followed your plan and saw exactly what kind of bastard he is. He's not worth your tears.""No, Uncle Sal. I'm crying for myself, for the soul that just died. I was naive enough to think Alessandro would waver because of the baby. I was such a fool."After I'd gotten it out of my system, my eyes hardened. I dialed a number I hadn't called in six months."Monica? Are you alright? So, you finally remembered your poor old father?" My father's voice sounded hoarse and worn."I'm sorry, Dad. I shouldn't have been so stubborn. The moment I stopped being a Columbo, I felt every cruelty this world had to offer.""I heard what happened to you. I even wondered if God was punishing me."He sighed heavily on the other end. "But if you're willing, I'll do whatever it takes to make the Pushkin family disappear from Melcina.""No, Dad. We should make them

In suffocating silence, Alessandro looked me up and down. His eyes held mockery, disdain, and even disgust."Today's not April Fools' Day. You're not seriously claiming the kid is mine, are you?"I felt all the blood in my body rush to my head."Isn't it?" My voice trembled."Come on, Cecilia. You're a stripper. You probably can't even remember which men you slept with three months ago!""You bastard, I only danced! During that time, you were the only one I was with!" I shoved him furiously. He grabbed my flailing hands and said with forced patience, "Fine. When the baby's born, we'll do a paternity test. If it's mine, I'll have Cristina adopt him."What? My child, the baby I'd carry for nine months, handed over to someone else to raise? And Alessandro looked so magnanimous about it, like I should be grateful!Rage consumed me until I felt completely drained."You know what, Alessandro? I just didn't want my child to be illegitimate."I stopped struggling and stormed out, sla
