Ashley

The doctor glanced at me.

“If there’s any change, inform the nursing staff immediately. Don’t attempt any medical procedures yourself. They’ll guide you on the aspects of his personal care you’re expected to assist with.”

“Okay. Thank you, Doctor.”

He nodded and left with the others.

One of the nurses remained behind to brief me.

“You’ll assist with his personal hygiene at eleven in the morning and five in the evening. We’ll help you with the routine, and you should call us if you encounter any difficulty. His medication and medical care are our responsibility.”

I nodded.

“Understood.”

She showed me where the supplies were kept and explained what I would need before leaving me to familiarise myself with the room.

I checked the time.

Ten forty-five.

Oh, great.

My first official assignment was approaching, and I suddenly wished I’d paid more attention during the briefing.

I headed into the bathroom to look at the supplies.

Everything had been arranged neatly: clean towels, washcloths, gloves, and the products needed for his personal care.

I washed my hands, gathered what I needed, and took a deep breath.

Okay, Ashley. You can do this.

It was personal care. Nothing more.

I returned to the bedside and followed the instructions the nurse had given me, making sure Skyler was covered as much as possible and exposing only the area I needed to clean. I worked carefully, using the washcloth and fresh water as instructed.

At first, I concentrated so hard on remembering every step that I barely had time to feel awkward.

Then I reached the more intimate part of his personal care.

I froze.

Oh, my goodness.

I looked at his face, then immediately looked away.

I had never seen a man’s entire naked body in broad daylight before.

With Josh, the lights were usually off whenever things got intimate. I’d never really questioned it, but standing beside Skyler’s hospital bed, I was beginning to think the darkness had been doing me a massive favour.

Because now, with the blanket pulled back and my eyes unfortunately functional, I could see the V-shaped lines of his abdomen narrowing towards his lower body.

Oh.

Oh, wow.

I looked away so quickly I nearly gave myself whiplash.

Ashley, please. You are here to do a job, not audition for the role of a woman who has never seen a man before.

Still, I needed a moment.

“Mr. Tylan,” I muttered, staring very intently at the wall, “I hope you appreciate the sacrifices I’m making for your family.”

I adjusted the towel to preserve his privacy and continued as carefully as I could. For a moment, I was so determined not to look at him that I nearly lost track of what I was doing.

Ashley, please. Concentrate.

I forced myself to look at the task properly and finish cleaning him safely instead of rushing through it out of embarrassment.

When I was done, I helped cover him again, disposed of the used supplies appropriately, and washed my hands.

Then I stood beside the bed and let out a long breath.

“Wow, Mr Tylan. You are indeed a handful.”

He remained gloriously silent.

“Not that you have much of a choice in the matter.”

I shook my head, gathered the remaining supplies, and returned everything to its place.

The rest of the afternoon passed slowly. I spent time beside his bed, occasionally talking to him whenever the silence became too uncomfortable. I also took breaks when the nurses said it was appropriate and checked in with them when I needed guidance.

By the time five o’clock arrived, I was considerably more comfortable with the routine.

Not entirely comfortable, mind you.

But comfortable enough.

I assisted with his second personal-care session under the nurses’ guidance, made sure he was settled afterwards, and checked that everything was in order.

At six, I collected my bag and headed for the door.

My first day was officially over.

And I had survived.

I stepped out of the hospital and reached for my phone to check the time.

  • Pregnant by the Billionaire in a Coma   Not bad

Skyler I had been following the selection process rather closely, mostly because I wanted to know exactly what my mother was planning. If she was determined to go ahead with this ridiculous arrangement, I wanted to know who she intended to bring into my life. More importantly, I wanted to know whether anyone involved in the programme had connections to the people who had orchestrated my accident. I was still investigating an attempted murder. I had no intention of allowing my mother’s well-funded reproductive experiment to become another avenue through which someone could get close enough to finish what they had started. So, I watched. I paid little attention to the medical appointments beyond the information I considered necessary. I was not particularly interested in studying a room full of women, and I certainly had no intention of developing an interest in any of them. I was married. Happily, as far as I was concerned. And I was still very much in love with my wife

  • Pregnant by the Billionaire in a Coma   IVF

SkylerNow, before you misunderstand that last statement, let me make something clear.Bri Tylan is the love of my life. She has been for as long as I can remember.Bri and I have known each other since we were teenagers. We grew up as neighbours, and our families were familiar with each other long before either of us understood what it meant to fall in love. Bri practically had unrestricted access to our home. She would walk in without announcing herself, raid our kitchen, complain about whatever was bothering her and somehow convince everyone that she had done us a favour simply by showing up.I used to pretend she was a nuisance. She knew I was lying. We became friends first. Then best friends. The sort of friends who knew each other’s habits, fears and embarrassing childhood stories. She knew when I was angry even when I said nothing. She knew when I needed space and when I needed someone to stay. When things were difficult, Bri was there. When I had something worth celebrating,

  • Pregnant by the Billionaire in a Coma   Unfortunately

SkylerMy name is Skyler Tylan.I’m sure you’ve heard of me by now. The comatose billionaire heir.An unfortunate accident. That’s what they’ve been calling it.Personally, I find the description rather amusing. There was nothing unfortunate about the timing. And I’m beginning to suspect there was very little accidental about it either. For the past three months, my life has been a series of carefully disguised warnings. A tyre bursting on a highway. Brake failure in a vehicle that had passed inspection less than twenty-four hours earlier. A security breach at one of our private residences. Minor incidents, individually speaking. The sort of things people dismiss as bad luck.I didn’t.When you’re preparing to assume control of one of the largest conglomerates in the world, you learn to pay attention to details other people overlook. Especially when those details keep appearing around you.Tylan Holdings was approaching a major succession announcement. The position of chairman was du

  • Pregnant by the Billionaire in a Coma   Hired surrogate

Ashley Oh, absolutely not.My brain finally sprang into action.Whatever else happened, I could not allow this situation to escalate before I explained myself.I had already signed a contract. I had accepted the money. Twenty-five million dollars had already entered my account, and a significant portion of it had gone towards Jason’s treatment.I could not afford to have somebody misunderstand my presence, report me to the hospital, and create a scandal before I had even completed the first week of this arrangement.I took a small step forward.“Wait!”She paused and looked at me.I straightened.“I’m Ashley. I’m the hired surrogate.”Silence.For one beautiful, terrifying second, neither of us said anything. Then she gave a small nod.“So they’ve moved quickly already.”I wasn’t sure what to make of that response. There was no obvious shock. No dramatic gasp. No immediate demand for an explanation. She simply said it as though she’d expected something of the sort to happen eventuall

  • Pregnant by the Billionaire in a Coma   Eighth wonder

Ashley She laughed. Not a polite little laugh. Not the kind of laugh people gave when they were trying to be civil despite finding something amusing.No.She laughed hysterically.I stood there with the cloth still in my hand, watching her as though she’d suddenly started speaking a language I didn’t understand.“I’m sorry,” she said, still laughing. “Did you just ask me who I am?”Her eyes travelled from my face to Skyler, then back to me.“Me? You’re asking me who I am? A nobody is standing here kissing my comatose husband in his hospital room, and somehow, I’m the one who needs to introduce herself?”She laughed again, shaking her head in disbelief.“I guess this is the eighth wonder of the world, wouldn’t you agree, Miss?”I opened my mouth.Closed it.Opened it again.Nothing came out.Oh.Oh, wow.Okay.First of all, nobody was kissing anybody.Second of all, comatose husband?Third of all—I finally took a proper look at her. And, oh my God.Oh. My. God.She was a goddess.I w

  • Pregnant by the Billionaire in a Coma   Who are you

AshleyI gathered the supplies I needed and washed my hands. Before yesterday, I hadn’t imagined that personal care would become a regular part of my daily routine. Now, apparently, it was part of my job description. Twice a day, I was expected to help clean a grown man who happened to be one of the richest people in the country. Life really did have a sense of humour. A questionable one, but still. I approached his bed and hesitated. “Okay, Skyler. I’m about to touch you now.” I paused. “Yes, I know. You can’t hear me. And no, I don’t know why I’m asking for permission from a man who can’t answer me. But I’ve watched enough Korean medical dramas to know that doctors announce what they’re about to do before they start poking people. So I’m following protocol.” I glanced at his face. “Except you’re not my patient, technically. You’re my employer. And you’re unconscious. This arrangement is getting more confusing by the day.” I exhaled. “Anyway, let’s just do this.” I began w
