ROMAN.
“What the hell are you doing?”
August’s voice is the first thing that greets me as I walk through the doors. Don’t get me wrong, August is my friend and he’s usually a pleasant presence, but right now I just want him to leave me alone. Unfortunately for me, he follows me even to my chambers.
I exhale sharply. “Come on, Auggie. Don’t you think it’s a bit weird that you followed me all the way to my bedroom?”
“I only did that because you’ve been gone all day!” he hisses, closing the door behind him. “Do you know what hell I’ve gone through dealing with the Alphas asking where the hell the King is on his thirtieth birthday? I was tempted to put on your armor and pretend you want to joust or something!”
A grin etches on my lips. “That would have been fun to see.”
“This is serious, Roman.” August’s face turns dark. When he calls me by my name and not my title, I do know that it’s indeed serious. “Every Alpha was angry and they were demanding answers about the north.”
Immediately, my mood sours.
Of course those fuckers would demand that. Do they think I know what happened there? Do they think I know what’s still happening there?
It’s been ten years since my father died from a mission in the north of Terra Lycaon. The sun never shines there, just constant darkness and dropping temperatures. He brought a team of Alphas with him to investigate the attacks happening there, but only one made it out alive, his best friend Janus, another Alpha.
Ten years, and no one has attempted to go back there to know what went down. Janus himself doesn’t want to go, claiming that what happened there was a nightmare that he would rather forget.
The attacks on the northern packs have calmed down over the years, only for them to pick right up again for the past ten months or so.
So far, two packs have been attacked, with fifty people dead.
I sit on the bed and take off my shoes. “They want answers… and yet when I volunteer to go there myself, everyone wants me to sit it out. When I ask for volunteers, no one wants to go. What the fuck do they want me to do?”
August falls silent, and I know he shares my frustration. I’ve been backed up on a wall over here for months. It’s tiring.
It’s the exact same reason why I spent some time in the Human world. Just to escape for a while. I wanted to throw money at some stupid shit and end up in bed with a few Human girls, who have always been eager to get fucked. It’s perfect too, because as an Alpha, I could never get them pregnant.
I have done this for years. I have been in bed with countless Human women, not just the ones I like to watch for their shows. Even just women who throw themselves at me wherever I go. But tonight… it was different.
The woman I met was different.
I don’t know her real name. All I know is that her stage name was Red, maybe because of her flaming red hair. Big tits, perfect ass, that pretty face… Fuck. I knew when I laid eyes on her that I wanted her under me, scratching my back and moaning my name.
I really thought I was going to get that too. I was making her come and I knew she wanted me to fuck her, but she suddenly just jumped away from me and left me high and dry.
Fuck, I could’ve gone to another woman. I could’ve have picked up someone else. But I didn’t feel the need to, at that moment.
All I wanted is her.
And I still want her.
I take a deep breath. Her scent is still on me. For some reason it’s making me even more restless than I already am.
I wish I knew why she left.
“I’ll have a meeting for everyone tomorrow,” I tell August. “Send out the memo, and I will answer all their questions. I’ll go to the north this time too, if it means shutting them the fuck up.”
He doesn’t move. “My King, at least let me come with you when you do. But I do think that shouldn’t go. They’re right about that, we just have to think of another way.”
I shake my head. “There’s no other way. Those Alphas are just going to keep running their mouths until someone does it. Better me than a group of poor men who have no choice but to follow orders.”
August doesn’t say anything. He just lowers his head. I take off my jacket, ready to dismiss him and get to bed, but then he gasps when I throw my jacket to the floor.
“Why is there blood on your shirt?”
I look down in confusion, only to see that the entire left side of my shirt is drenched in blood. Not my blood, that’s for sure. It’s Human blood, courtesy of the idiot that tried to rob me on my way to the strip club.
Then it hits me at lightning speed.
“That’s why she left.”
“Who?” August crosses the room and stands in front of me. “Who left? Have you been messing with Humans again? Roman, this is insanity!”
“It’s fine,” I grit out, unbuttoning my shirt. “Don’t be such a fuss. I’ll burn it and no one would know.”
I discard my shirt as well, lumping it in with the jacket and tossing it into the fireplace. I thought August would walk away this time, but he stays there staring at me. For some reason, he looks more shocked than when he saw the blood. I cock an eyebrow, only for him to point at the tattoo on my chest.
Every male wolf gets branded with their house sigil on their thirteenth birthday. It’s not just a rite of passage. It can turn from red to black, when we first touch our fated partners. Female wolves get theirs on the wrist on their eighteenth birthday, to make sure they remain pure. My tattoo is a raven above crossed swords, the sigil of the Medeiros House.
And right now, it’s burning black, like a burst of smoke on my skin.
“Alpha Roman.” August’s eyes are with reverence. “You have been touched by your mate.”
Immediately, I know that I need to go back to the Human world and find that girl again.
This time, I will make her mine.
MONICA.Roman is fighting someone to the death? At first I can hardly believe my ears. A wave of emotion rushes into my chest, something that I know very well: worry. And I don’t know why on earth I would be worried about Roman when he’s the one who brought me into this situation in the first place. Maybe he deserves to die for what he did. Whatever it is, I’m pretty certain it’s none of my business anymore… right? So why am I running towards the amphitheater now, like my presence is somehow going to save Roman?I don’t understand what I’m doing. I don’t understand what I’m feeling. All I know is that I’m hiding behind a nearby tree as of the moment, my heart pounding in my ears as I observe what’s happening.“Kill him!” some of the people are yelling, and I don’t know who they’re rooting for.In the arena is a raised platform separate from all the other spectators. There are twelve people sitting on what looks to be thrones, wearing bright red robes, blood-like in the growing darknes
MONICA.The rush of the moment disappears, and I'm left with the sinking realization that I might have just killed someone.I back off from Roman, who's still looking at me. I don’t know what that expression on his face is. All I know is that it's making me feel small. But at the same time, his gaze makes me feel like I'm this huge unstoppable monster who just attacked a princess."She tried to kill me," I say in a shaking voice. "She went in here and tried to hurt me. I didn't start this!"Roman doesn't say anything. Instead, he turns to Cassandra, who's groaning and crying. Basically making a huge show out of it."Please," I beg. "I didn't hurt her on purpose. Don't kill me.""I won't," Roman says at last, but his voice is still way too quiet for my comfort. After a moment, a couple of men enter the room. They immediately take Cassandra out, putting her on a stretcher and carrying her off. I can see through small opened cracks of the doors that the guards are also being transported
ROMAN.I’m still heated up, still in need of more from Monica. The scent of her arousal is still strong on my lips, making it hard for me to shake off the lust burning in my veins even as I make my way to the war room.I would rather meet her in her new room and maybe finish what I started, but I need to teach her a lesson. It’s going to be torture to me as much as it is torture to her, I’m sure of that.I arrive at the war room expecting it to be just Corrin and maybe Janus in there, but to my surprise, all twelve Elders are in attendance. But much to my disappointment, Hyden is also there, smiling at me like a hyena.I take a long huge breath of exhaustion. "With all due respect, which is basically none, I would like you to leave, brother."A handful of the Elders have to contain their smiles. Hyden was never really popular. It's no secret that he likes to meddle. And now he has the gall to look at me with outrage as though he wasn't aware of what he was doing. "This is how you choo
MONICA.“Wait!” I call out to Roman, struggling against Augusts’s grasp. “Is that what you want me to do? Just… be your prisoner?”Roman doesn’t even answer me. He just heads to the other direction without as much as a glance back. I try to chase after him, but August pulls me back. “Don’t make a scene. It’s important that no one sees you.”“But where is he going? What’s going to happen to me?”“I’ll explain everything when we get inside, okay?” The patience in his tone is refreshing, as much as I don’t want to admit. “Right now, you’re cold and I know that you’re hungry. More than that, I know you’re confused.”It’s comforting to know that he at least tries to understand me, but the one I really want to talk to is Roman. He’s no longer here, though. He disappears into the side of the building, and now I can’t hear his footsteps anymore.August leads me back into the palace, and despite my situation, I can’t help but look at it in awe. Now that I’m not in a hurry, I can see every deta
MONICA.Roman has done it before. Hell, this isn’t my first time getting eaten out at all. Not even close. But why does he make me feel like it’s never happened to me before and will never happen again? All the tension from my escape has melted and become desire. Desperate, mindless desire. As he spreads my legs over his shoulders and leans close to my pussy, all thoughts leave my head, replaced with this sick anticipation that I would have been repulsed by if I were in the right mind.Because this is the same man who stalked me. The same man who brought me to a strange place against my will. The same man I just sucked off until he came in my mouth, and I loved every second of it.“Roman,” I moan, thrusting my hands into his hair for balance as he kisses my inner thighs. “Please….”“Please what?” Roman asks, hovering over my clit, making me feel his words as he breathed them. “You want this?”I nod frantically, trying to move my hips as he continues his slow torture on my inner thighs
MONICA.I was so close.Or at least, that’s what I wanted to believe. Even when the brother’s directions, I couldn’t really figure out where to go. It didn’t help that the smell and layout of the place felt vaguely familiar. Like I’ve been here before….But that was impossible. I kept telling myself that as I ran and ran. This is a strange place with very strange people. If I can even call them that. That alone was enough to make me run for my life despite being barefoot and hungry. The fact that they’re not Human and I can feel it in my bones. And I was getting somewhere. The energy in that area in the forest was definitely different. So when Roman showed up seemingly out of nowhere, I was angry. However, at the same time, something inside me wanted him to catch me.That side is loud right now, as Roman trails his fingers down to my navel, slowly dipping lower until they’re threateningly close to my mound. His rock hard cock is pressing against me, as though demanding to be noticed.
ROMAN.“No updates?” I ask the nurse, staring down at the unconscious face of Byron. “Did he not move all night at all?”The nurse shakes her head. “No, your Grace. We checked everything. Everything else seems to be stable. He just doesn’t seem to respond to anything. He’s been like that since he passed out when you got him here. Right now, we’re just making sure he’s hydrated and fed through the tube.”I turn away. It’s not really urgent, the thing with Byron. But it’s pretty obvious that he knows far more about the Creatures than anyone. It looked like they have kept him captive for years. The sooner the whole north thing is done, the better.Especially now that my mate is here.I close the door behind me, about to head back to August’s room to check on Monica, when all of a sudden I hear a couple of sets of footsteps going up the stairs. I see the familiar flash of red robes, and I freeze. It’s the Elders. The oldest three as well, with their leader Corrin heading the little party.
MONICA.My mind is still protesting. Anxious. Angry. But it’s over for me.I can feel my body being carted off elsewhere. I hear the vague sound of police sirens. At some point I see the red and blue lights flashing, reflecting off a car window. I hear Roman’s voice and feel his warm touch against my thigh.Roman’s handsome face, covered in speckles of dried blood, loom above mine. He smiles. “We’re here. Just relax.”But I can’t relax. That’s the last thing that I want to do right now. I want to jump off his arms and run for my life, but my body is paralyzed. I can’t even feel my own chest.I can hear hushed whispers now, getting heated at first, but slowly coming to what sounds like agreement.I force myself to look, to open my eyes, to be awake for more than five seconds. And that’s when I see August’s face over mine. He’s looking into my eyes, worried.“This isn’t normal,” he mutters to himself. “Humans aren’t supposed to be able to enter this place. There’s magic in that gate. Sh
MONICA.I can’t believe it.When I got knocked out by that slap, I thought I was dreaming. It definitely seemed like it at first. It felt like I was floating in darkness, and all I could hear was the distant sound of a fight brewing. For a moment it even felt like I was being pushed out of something that was moving fast, like a car. It was like a memory, and I wondered if it was an incoming blackout….Then I woke up to see Roman, covered in blood, his clothes peppered with bullet holes. For a moment I thought he was dying, then I see him crushing Manny’s head like it was hollow. The rage and satisfaction in Roman’s eyes were chilling. And it’s even more chilling now, as I see no ounce of regret when he looks at me.“That was all you,” I say in confirmation to myself because he doesn’t answer.Roman’s eyes are cold now. I don’t know how I never noticed how chilling his gray eyes look.“You have to be more specific than that,” he finally says, straightening up. “If you want me to admit
