Chapter 17: The Consequences of War

I took a deep breath and tried to calm myself as I surveyed the scene in front of me. The human group had escalated their efforts to eradicate our kind, and they were now launching coordinated attacks on multiple packs. The situation was dire, and I knew that we had to act fast to protect our own.

I turned to Alex, my mate, and saw the same determination in his eyes. We had rallied our allies and mounted a desperate defense, but the human group was relentless. They seemed to have endless resources and were using advanced weaponry to take us down.

"Are you okay?" Alex asked concern etched on his face.

I nodded, even though I wasn't sure if I was okay. We had lost many of our own in the battle, and the thought of losing more made me feel sick to my stomach.

"We need to keep fighting," I said, my voice firm. "We can't let them win."

Alex gave me a small smile. "I know. We won't give up."
