“What are you doing home from school?" My mother’s tone was cold, but her eyes were colder.

“The question is why are you here?” I asked as I walked past her and into the house.

I didn’t have a good relationship with my mother, mostly because the only thing she cared about was her image. This is assumably the only reason she is scolding me right now. I would bet money on it.

“Don’t try to change the subject and don’t walk away from me while I am talking to you.”

Rolling my eyes as I kept walking, I slung my bag off my shoulder and tossed it to the butler that was standing near a small table in the middle of the foyer. I ignored her because I knew it annoyed her. Walking down the hall to the grand kitchen, I passed by the cook that was busy cooking.

Since I didn’t alert the staff that I would be coming in today, it was likely my mother, that had the staff come in. Unless someone was present in the house, the only staff we kept available at all times was a maid and a few wa
