Elana POV

Choking back tears, I rush out of the Midsummer Pack Courthouse. The day finally came: my marriage is over. All that is left is for Victor to break the mate bond between us. Five years of my life are over with a simple strike of a pen.

I brace myself on the railing of the stairs before I descend them.  My best friend, Alexis, is at the bottom, playing with my daughter.  Pulling a small mirror out of my purse, I check my makeup.  Mascara is beginning to run down my cheeks, but I quickly wipe it away.

Someone bumps my shoulder, and I see my husband walking away.  Victor pretends he didn’t just bump into me and doesn't spare me a second glance. He does this when he has a topic in mind but wants me to talk first. He is not a man of many words. But there is nothing to talk about between us. At least I can’t think of anything. Not anymore. We are done.

For a fleeting moment, I think he is headed for our daughter, Gabby, who is waiting for him at the bottom of the stairs.

She wiggles out of Alexis’s arms and wraps her tiny body around his leg. I watch the scene from afar, and tears sting my eyes because she looks so much like him. How will I look at her every day and not be reminded of him?

I wait for Victor to pick her up, but he looks down at her with disinterest. He pries her from his leg and walks away.  An audible gasp leaves my lips.  How could he be so cold to his child?  His own flesh and blood.

Gabby, forever a Daddy's girl, throws herself onto the ground. She kicks her feet and screams for her daddy, but Victor doesn’t even turn to regard her. He wasn’t the warmest father or lover before this, but he’s colder than ever today. Why is he acting up now that he has the divorce he wanted? Was he just playing the father’s role, and now there isn’t even a reason to pretend?

Both rage and sorrow fill me as I rush down the stairs to my child.

Alexis is trying to pull her off the ground, but it is only making matters worse.  Gabby is causing a scene outside the courthouse, and everyone is stopping to look.  I bend down next to her and swipe her hair out of her very red face.

"You can be mad," I tell her.  “But you can’t scream on the ground.”

"Daddy doesn't love me anymore," she sobs as she throws her arms around my neck.

"He does love you," I try my best to heal her broken heart. "Daddy is just having a bad day."

"Because you got 'vorced?" She asks me.

"Who taught you that word?" I ask her gently, glaring at my best friend.

Alexis shrugs her shoulders. "She was going to figure it out sooner or later."

I roll my eyes at my well-meaning friend and lead Gabby to the car waiting for us.  Victor is parked just a few spaces away.  My eyes are drawn to him like a moth to a flame.  They always have been.

Stopping by his car, he pauses when he reaches for the door. My eyes pause with his movement. But the next second, he suddenly wheels around, catching me staring at him. In panic, I dart my eyes away.

He wants a talk. That much I’m sure.

Could it be? After the courthouse, he now has regrets? Our divorce was a rather quick one. Out of nowhere, he just came back one day with divorce papers, and I was rushed to where I’m now, as if carried by a dark tornado.

He slams his door closed, turns, and glares at me. I look away.

Even if I knew what’s bothering him, I won’t make it easy for him today. Not after he hurt Gabby’s feelings like that. He has the right not to love me, but what has Gabby ever done but love her Daddy like he was the greatest hero in her life?

But he doesn’t walk towards me. He stands by the road, watching the red sports car pull up.

The sports car pulls up behind mine, and a bubbly blonde steps out.  My mouth drops open as I watch the woman step out. By instinct, I push Gabby behind me when I’m still working on believing what I’m seeing.  I don’t want her to get caught in the crossfire of this fight.  I haven’t seen my sister in exactly five years, and the last time we spoke, it was not pleasant.

Gabby is trying to peer around my legs to look at my sister, but my eyes are on Victor.  He is looking in my direction with a provoking smirk. Is this why he hasn’t left, to demonstrate his ex to my face?!

“E!” Lara squeals loudly. Five long years didn’t cure me of feeling sick at hearing her phony voice.

She rushes toward me and gathers me in her arms.  My arms hang lifelessly at my side as my sister embraces me.  I look over at Alexis, and she is hiding her laugh behind her hand.  She knows the tumultuous relationship between my sister and me.

“Lara,” I say, pulling away from her.  “You are back in town.”

Of course she is. He knew. Not only that. He divorced me for her.

  • Pursuing My Rejected Luna   Chapter 99

Elana POVThe morning comes soft and golden.Sunlight spills through the kitchen windows, catching on the motes of flour floating in the air. The scent of pancakes drifts through the house.Gabby and Nico sit at the table, both covered in more flour than the countertop. Gabby’s braid is dusted white at the tips, and Nico’s hair sticks up in wild tufts, but the sound of their laughter fills every corner of the room.Victor stands at the stove, spatula in hand, pretending to look annoyed while Damon leans against the counter, drinking coffee and deliberately not helping.“This is chaos,” Victor mutters.Damon smirks. “This is family.”I stand in the doorway, watching them, my heart so full it almost hurts. There was a time when this house felt like a cage. When silence pressed down heavier than any chain, when every look between us was sharp with jealousy or pain. But now… now it feels alive.Victor flips a pancake with exaggerated precision. “If you two make another mess, you’re cleani

  • Pursuing My Rejected Luna   Chapter 98

Elana POVThe pack house is quiet. Everyone has fallen asleep long ago, but I can’t seem to. I sit in my room, the moonlight pouring across the floorboards. My hands twist in my lap as I stare at the wall, waiting for the weight of this day to crush me.Instead, there’s a knock. Low. Hesitant. Before I can answer, the door opens. Victor steps inside, followed closely by Damon. Both of them look tired, but content with what has happened over the past few weeks. “Elana,” Victor says, his voice rough. “We need to talk.”I nod, my throat too tight for words. This is it. It’s the moment where they tell me I have to choose, even though the king told me I could have them both. They cross the room together. For once, there’s no tension in their steps, no invisible line drawn between them. Damon leans against the wall, arms crossed, but his gaze is steady on me. Victor stands close enough that I can feel the heat of his skin pressing against mine.“We’ve been fools,” Victor says. “Fightin

ElanaThe ride back from the royal court feels endless.Victor’s hands grip the steering wheel until his knuckles are white. I can feel his anger through the bond, but it isn’t directed at me or Damon. His anger remains on the nobles and their judging stares. Damon sits beside him, fists clenched in his lap. He doesn’t know what to say to make this better, and it is eating away at him. I sit in the back with the children. Gabby leans against me, humming softly to herself, her head pillowed on my lap. Nico stares out the window, his arms locked around the stuffed wolf she gave him. He hasn’t spoken since the decree.I don’t push. When we finally arrive back at the pack house, the sun has dipped low behind the mountains, painting the sky a beautiful shade of orange. The halls are quiet; most of the pack is still buzzing with rumors about what the King decreed, but no one is bold enough to approach us yet.Victor mutters something about convening with his Beta and disappears down th

ElanaThe throne room is colder today.Or maybe it’s just me, nerves twisting so tightly in my stomach that every step toward the dais feels like a climb up a mountain. The noble crowd fills the chamber and whispers under their breaths. They are taking bets on whether the king will bless the bond between my mates and me, or if he will make me choose.Victor’s shoulder brushes mine as we walk side by side, Damon just behind us. Nico clings to Gabby, their small hands linked, her braid swinging as she half-drags him forward. He looks pale, but at least he doesn’t flinch at her touch. The herald’s voice cuts through the air. “Alpha Victor of the Midsummer Pack. Alpha Damon of the Moonshine Pack. Luna Elana.”We reach the dais and bow. My knees nearly buckle, but I force them to hold.King Julian leans forward on his throne, his eyes sharp as blades. He surveys us in silence for a long, terrible moment. My pulse thunders in my ears. Then his voice rolls through the chamber like thunder.

  • Pursuing My Rejected Luna   Chapter 95

Elana POVThe sound of Lara’s screams follows me all the way back to the guest chambers of the palace.Even when the door closes behind me, muffling the noise of the crowd outside, they linger, echoing inside my skull like a curse. My stomach twists, bile clawing at my throat. I drop onto the edge of the bed, burying my face in my hands, and for a moment I can’t breathe.I hated her. I hated everything she did, everything she took from me. But hate doesn’t silence the memory of her eyes begging for my mercy. It doesn’t erase the truth that I turned away.“Elana.”Victor’s voice is low, steady. I don’t look up. If I do, if I see the anger still simmering in him, I think I’ll shatter.“She was my sister,” I whisper into my palms. There’s a pause. Then the mattress dips as he sits beside me. “She was poison,” he says quietly. “And she chose her path long before today.”I drag in a shaky breath and lower my hands. His eyes are softer now, but no less fierce. I want to tell him that it doe

  • Pursuing My Rejected Luna   Chapter 94

Elana POVThe courtyard is crowded, the air thick with anticipation. Warriors line the walls, nobles murmur at the edges, and the scent of smoke clings to everything. I stand near the back, my hands clenched at my sides, wishing I could be anywhere but here.I don’t want to see this. I don’t want her blood on my hands, even if she deserves it.Victor and Damon tried to convince me not to come. They begged me to stay within the borders of the Midsummer Pack, but I have to be here. I need to see this through to the end. If I see her die, maybe I can stop looking over my shoulder at every turn. Maybe I can finally feel at peace. The guards drag Lara into the square. Shackles bite into her wrists and ankles, her hair wild, her eyes wide with rage. For a moment, she still looks like the girl I grew up with, the sister who used to stand taller than me, sneering down with superiority. But then she thrashes, screaming obscenities, and the illusion shatters. The King’s voice rings out ove
