Elana POV“I could ask him the same thing,” Victor retorts. Damon shifts Gabby in his arms as if he is shielding her from the argument that he knows is about to take place. He chuckles a little too loudly, and she stirs in her sleep. “I am doing the job that you abandoned. You know, taking care of your mate and your child.” His words sting a little, but I try not to be too offended. He is only trying to get underneath Victor’s skin, and by the look of it, it is working. Victor reaches for Gabby, but Damon takes a step back, and a possessive growl rumbles in his chest. “Shit,” I hiss through my teeth, knowing this cannot end well. “Guys, I need to get to work. Can we all yell at each other after my shift?” Victor and Damon both scoff loudly, but Damon is the one who is ready to spew insults in Victor’s direction. “It is something that you wouldn’t have to do if Victor had stayed true to the mate bond.”“Damon,” I gasp his name, but it is too late. The damage has been done.
Elana POVAfter the run-in with Alpha Max after work on Monday, I can’t help but keep looking over my shoulder. Something tells me he isn’t going to take no for an answer, but I don’t have any urge to get caught in the middle of pack drama. While the thought of dating Alpha Max to get underneath Victor’s skin is tempting, it isn’t really my style. Plus, I don’t really care about what Victor is doing. Or at least that is what I keep telling myself. It is an unusually warm day, and I decide to walk from my last class to the library. I have time to spare, and I think the fresh air will help me clear my head. I have to come up with another way to earn money if I want to leave the Midsummer Pack, and asking Damon for help is out of the question. I am so focused on my thoughts that I barely hear someone calling my name. It isn’t until a child grabs onto my leg that I realize Gabby is standing in front of me. Panic rises in my chest, and I scoop her into my arms. “What are you doin
Elana PovI push the cart through the library. The wheels squeak loudly and draw attention to me. Students glare at me and roll their eyes when I mutter apologies. Even though the college is owned by the Midsummer Pack, most of the people don't know who I am. It is one of the only places I can go to avoid gossip, but that doesn't mean I have made friends.I slip between the bookcases and sigh in relief when it is empty. One by one, I take the books from the cart and put them in their place. There is something comforting about the smell of books, and I lose track of the time. It isn't until the light fades from the windows that I realize that I have stayed too long.Quickly, I grab my things from the back room and clock out. Alexis will be angry if I am late again. Cold air nips at my cheeks when I step outside. wrapping my arms around myself, I make my way to my car.Hairs prickle on my neck, and I get the feeling I am being watched. I glance over my shoulder for a moment before wal
Elana POVDamon is in the kitchen with Gabby, while I change out of my work clothes. Even though he promised her ice cream for dinner, he is making me something else to eat. I should go out there and help, but I can’t seem to make myself leave the bedroom. I don’t think I can bear another moment with Damon and the looks that he gives me. He desires more from our relationship than I can give, and it makes me feel like I am using him.Banging on the front door draws my attention, and Victor’s voice booms through my apartment. “Daddy,” Gabby’s excited voice fills my ears.I bolt from the bedroom, and Gabby wrapped around Victor’s leg. He isn’t even trying to hide his annoyance.Approaching the situation slowly, I rest my hand on Gabby’s shoulder. “Baby, can you go to your room while Mommy and Daddy talk.” Her little eyes are filled with tears, but she obeys me. I wait until her bedroom door shuts before turning my attention to the brothers in my kitchen. “Why are you here?” I
Victor POVLara is sitting across from me with her bottom lip pushed out into a ridiculous pout. She isn't getting her way, and now we all must suffer. From what I understand, she caused a scene today at the hospital and now wants me to fire the staff that was on duty."I am not dismissing the hospital staff because you threw a tantrum. That is not how we do things in the Midsummer Pack. They did nothing wrong."I can’t believe I have to speak to her like she is a child. Her bottom lip begins to quiver, and I prepare myself for the tantrum that is brewing."If I am to be your Luna, you should be on my side. They disrespected me."I have to keep myself from rolling my eyes. "You are not yet the Luna of this pack, and I spoke to the hospital. Curtis explained what happened."She scoffs loudly. "He lied."I chuckle sarcastically at her attitude. "You don't even know what he said. How do you know he lied?"Crossing her arms over her chest, she mumbles obscenities under her breath. El
Elana POVI instantly regret my choice to come to the hospital today. It appears everyone has business in the hospital, and all eyes turn to me when I enter. Holding Gabby close to my side, I weave between them. Papers in hand, I approach the counter. The nurse behind the desk frowns as she looks them over."Not you too, Luna.”“Please don’t call me that,” I reply in a low voice. “I am no longer your Luna.”She rolls her eyes dramatically. “You are the only one we will recognize. We don’t believe the lies coming from the Alpha.”I cringe at her words. She shouldn’t speak ill of Victor that way publicly, but the look on her face tells me that she doesn’t give a shit. “Down the hall, third door on the right."She slides the papers back to me and looks over the counter at Gabby. I don't miss the pity behind her eyes. It is the same look everyone gives us.Gripping Gabby's hand, I guide her down the hall and into the lab waiting room. My heart sinks when I see Lara and her son. He
