Elana POV

I refresh the screen on my phone. Surely there is a mistake. It is the first day of the month, and Victor didn’t deposit the child support for Gabby. Without that payment, I will barely be able to make this month's rent. I have been putting money away to move away from the Midsummer Pack, and now I worry that I will be stuck here forever.

“It was a mistake,” I mutter under my breath. “He just forgot.”

No matter how much I try to tell myself it will be okay, it doesn’t settle my nerves. I can’t stay in this pack, not now that I know Victor is going to marry Lara.

Gabby won’t be home from daycare for another two hours. I had planned on using that time to catch up on my studies, but I guess I need to hunt down Victor.

I pull into the pack house driveway, and my hands tingle with nerves. I sit in my car for several moments before I am able to encourage myself to get out. Even then, walking into the pack house is another feat.

This place used to be my home. I deco

  • Pursing My Rejected Luna   Chapter 33

Victor POVWhen I walk into the library and see Damon’s arms wrapped around Elana, something snaps inside of me. Until now, I have managed to remain calm when it comes to the two of them, but when he kisses her on the top of the head, I can’t stop the snarl from coming from my lips.“Why are you always fucking here?” Elana pulls away from Damon with a guilty look on her face, but Damon has the fucking audacity to look smug. He reaches for her again, but my growl stops him.“Don’t fucking touch her again.” “Or what?” Damon taunts playfully. “Are you going to attack me in the library?” I grind my teeth together. “No. We can settle this outside.” Damon steps away from Elana, and I feel like I can breathe. “Fine.” He hops over the library counter and makes his way to the door, ripping off his shirt in the process. I should be watching my brother, but my eyes are glued to Elana. Her gaze is on Damon, and I can feel her worry for him rolling off her. She fucking cares for him.

  • Pursing My Rejected Luna   Chapter 32

Elana POVClasses and work drag on. Tomorrow is the court date with Victor, and I don’t know how to prove that the DNA test that was completed is false. It is my word against Victor’s, and I don’t think anyone will believe me. My recent proximity to Damon is making me look guilty. I pretend like I don’t care, but the truth is… I do. I want to be loved like I once was when I was the Luna of the pack. I hate that people think poorly of me. The library is mostly empty, and it gives me time to study. But my mind keeps drifting away from my school work, and finally, I slam my books closed and stuff them back into my bag. Turning to the library computer, I begin to search for the probability of DNA tests being inaccurate. The results aren’t helping my anxiety. It is unlikely that the results are wrong because they were performed in a hospital setting.Leaning in closer to the computer, I try to read the fine print of a university website. When a shadow is cast over me, and the sc

  • Pursing My Rejected Luna   Chapter 31

Elana POVAfter the fiasco on campus yesterday, the librarian graciously gave me the rest of the week off. Apparently, she has witnessed the fight between Damon and Victor, and instead of judging me, she took pity on me. She rested a wrinkled hand on my shoulder and told me that no man is worth that much drama. I couldn’t help but laugh, because she isn’t wrong. No man is worth this. Gabby is sitting at the kitchen table putting together a puzzle while I finish up my homework. Her little hands are still scuffed and bandaged, but she is humming sweetly to herself.I smile to myself, grateful that she is a pleasant child. Even though her whole life has been turned upside down, she continues to be happy.A knock on my door makes both of us look up. Gabby stops humming, and a frown mars her pretty little face. She has enjoyed our quiet day together. “It’s okay,” I assure her. “I will tell whoever is there to go away. We are having a mommy-Gabby day.” She lets out a little huf

Elana POVA crowd has begun to gather, and I can’t hide my embarrassment. Gabby is still crying loudly, and Damon is trying to clean her hands while I offer what comfort to her that I can. Victor has yet to leave; his arms are crossed over his chest, and he is snarling in Damon’s direction.“I don’t want Daddy here,” Gabby sobs. “He is mean.” “Shh,” Damon soothes her. “You don’t mean that. You are just hurt.” “I do mean it,” she wails. “He is mean and he hates me.” Victor rolls his eyes dramatically. “I don’t hate you, Gabby.” “Yes, you do,” she continued to try. “Go away.”He tries to step closer to Gabby and Damon, but it only makes her shriek louder. I place myself between the two of them and hold Victor back with my hands.“Just leave,” I spit at him. “I think you have done enough.” He huffs loudly. “You can’t possibly be blaming this on me. You are the one who dropped your daughter on the ground. If anyone is to blame, it is you.”“Your daughter,” I repeat his wo

Elana POV“I could ask him the same thing,” Victor retorts. Damon shifts Gabby in his arms as if he is shielding her from the argument that he knows is about to take place. He chuckles a little too loudly, and she stirs in her sleep. “I am doing the job that you abandoned. You know, taking care of your mate and your child.” His words sting a little, but I try not to be too offended. He is only trying to get underneath Victor’s skin, and by the look of it, it is working. Victor reaches for Gabby, but Damon takes a step back, and a possessive growl rumbles in his chest. “Shit,” I hiss through my teeth, knowing this cannot end well. “Guys, I need to get to work. Can we all yell at each other after my shift?” Victor and Damon both scoff loudly, but Damon is the one who is ready to spew insults in Victor’s direction. “It is something that you wouldn’t have to do if Victor had stayed true to the mate bond.”“Damon,” I gasp his name, but it is too late. The damage has been done.

  • Pursing My Rejected Luna   Chapter 28

Elana POVAfter the run-in with Alpha Max after work on Monday, I can’t help but keep looking over my shoulder. Something tells me he isn’t going to take no for an answer, but I don’t have any urge to get caught in the middle of pack drama. While the thought of dating Alpha Max to get underneath Victor’s skin is tempting, it isn’t really my style. Plus, I don’t really care about what Victor is doing. Or at least that is what I keep telling myself. It is an unusually warm day, and I decide to walk from my last class to the library. I have time to spare, and I think the fresh air will help me clear my head. I have to come up with another way to earn money if I want to leave the Midsummer Pack, and asking Damon for help is out of the question. I am so focused on my thoughts that I barely hear someone calling my name. It isn’t until a child grabs onto my leg that I realize Gabby is standing in front of me. Panic rises in my chest, and I scoop her into my arms. “What are you doin
