Morgana’s POV

The photo is still on Julian's tablet after everyone else has stopped looking at it.

Mara and Iris are sitting together on the clinic bench, hands in hands. Someone has written 'Both girls refused the voice exercise' on the back as if refusal was a disease.

"What did they make you do?" I ask Mara.

She looks at Owen. "Do I have to answer in front of everyone?"

“No,” I say immediately.

Inspector Hale is happy to take her account in private, with Owen there if she wants him. Dante an

  • QUEEN OF THE ALPHA KING   The Key I Gave Away

Dante’s POVJulian's laptop has my name next to an order that I never placed.Under it is a time, a terminal number, and a neat green tick.Authenticated.I have come to hate that word."Can you shut the account down?" I ask."Yes," says Julian. "The command desk uses it for patrol alerts. Marcus needs another way to get to everyone first."“He’s right here. Give him one.”Marcus pulls out his notebook. "Verified calls to the section captains, followed by written orders. Two signatures for any change of post.""Mine won't be one of them. Not until we know who can pretend to be me."Morgana looks at my wrist. The black line's not gone. The emptiness behind my ribs hasn't gone either."Right," she says. "Now find the person who used it."Julian brings up the access history. I'm expecting another stolen password, something simple enough to explain over breakfast.Instead, he points to a line marked 'recovery authorization '.'Your normal password wasn't used. They got in with an emergenc

  • QUEEN OF THE ALPHA KING   The Voice in the Pack Link

Dante’s POVMorgana calls my name down the corridor.I'm still talking to the seer when I hear the fear in her voice. I rush outside, expecting another message from Hale, another fake order, another person we've failed to protect.Instead, Marcus is staring at his radio.“Tell him,” Morgana says.Marcus looks at me. "I heard your wolf call me Commander. Before yours went quiet."My first instinct is to laugh. That's a rotten instinct to have, and I've swallowed it."By radio?" I ask."No, Alpha. In here." He taps his temple. "Through the pack link."I haven't used that link to get to him in months. Our wolf used to speak through it when we were pinned down by a pack of rogues at the northern pass. Marcus was barely twenty back then. He still remembers the order that saved his life.“What did he say?”Marcus swallows. "More than one word."Marcus looks towards the meeting hall. The riders are gathering there, all watching the door. He's lowered his voice. "I didn't want anyone hearing

  • QUEEN OF THE ALPHA KING   The Voice Before the Silence

Morgana’s POVThe warning is on paper so thin the light actually passes through it.If the King's Wolf goes quiet, then don't let him give up the crown.I read it again, then look at Selene."Where the hell did you find this?""In the hem," she says. "Something scratched my wrist when I put the coat on. I pulled the stitches out."Inspector Hale holds out an evidence sleeve. Selene hands him the letter and the loose blue thread which she'd been keeping in her handbag."Were the stitches already broken?" asks Hale.“No. I did that.”"Did you take the photograph of the coat first?"Selene shakes her head.Of course she didn't. I'd have been furious, but I'd probably have just bitten right through the whole lining.Dante turns up with Owen, looks quite pale from another go at the examination.“Still nothing?” I ask.He knows I mean his wolf.“Nothing.”I show him the photograph of the note Hale took. He reads it, says nothing.“Five years ago,” says Dante, pointing at the date. “Why on e

  • QUEEN OF THE ALPHA KING   The Warning in the Coat

Morgana’s POVThe photo's still on Hale's tablet when I ask her to flip it over. It's a digital file, Morgana. She gives me that look."I know. I mean the info behind it. Who took it?""We're after the original. The date on an attachment can be altered."Yesterday. That one word had nearly had me bolting for the blue house, hoping as hell to find Mum at the gate.Dante pulls a chair over beside me. He doesn't say what we're both thinking.'Ada kept a blue coat,' I tell Hale. 'Eveline left it at the house years ago. I saw it hanging in a cupboard when I was a child.'"Could someone have taken it?""We've been in that house twice. We never looked in the upstairs wardrobe."But I can remember her coat brushing my cheek as she bent down to pick me up. It smelled of rain and orange soap.Hale makes the call. Two officers are going to inspect the property. She asks me not to go until the rooms have been cleared.I loathe agreeing. I do it anyway.Ada's answer from Mrs Bell's clinic was as i

  • QUEEN OF THE ALPHA KING   The Witnesses They Couldn’t Silence

Morgana’s POVThe list has three names.Ada. Mara. Mine.I saw it on Dante's phone as he was looking at my face. His thumb was right across the bottom corner of the photo, as if he could hide a few inches of paper and that would make it any less real."Witness removal," I say. "Does that mean what I think?"“We don’t know yet.”“Someone sent an ambulance for Ada. I don’t need a dictionary.”Dante takes his hand away. "Neither do I."I expect him to grab his keys and get every rider on the road. He calls Hale instead and asks if the original page is safe."Yes," she says. "The driver turned it over. Our officers are taking statements. Get the three women to a safe place and don't move them without telling us.""I'm one of those women," I say, leaning in to the phone. "You can tell me straight away."“Then I’m telling you straight, Morgana. This is a serious threat. It doesn’t say how they intended to get rid of you. Please don’t go trying to find out by going up to them.”Mara picks up

  • QUEEN OF THE ALPHA KING   The Order at Midnight

Dante’s POVAda’s clinic. For one absolutely stupid second, I see Morgana standing by a bed in a hospital, waiting to be told that another person she loves has gone. Not again.I remember the year that Ryker told Morgana Ada was dead. I'd seen her crying at dinner and assumed it was just a row between husband and wife. I didn't ask what had happened. There are things a man can't just fix by being sorry later on.“Marcus,” I say into the phone, “that order is a lie. No-one leaves a post. No-one goes to the old hall.”“Already told them, Alpha.”"Call Hale. The clinic is outside our premises. Police are taking the lead there."“Understood.”Morgana is pulling her coat on. I catch her hand."We're not driving into whatever the hell they've got arranged.""I wasn't going to." She shows me her phone. "I'm calling Ada."She sounds offended that I'd expected anything else. Fair enough.Morgana has been telling me at length that she doesn't want to be guarded like a possession. I've told her

  • QUEEN OF THE ALPHA KING   A Murder Plot Turned Seduction

Morgana's POVRyker watches me as I add the poison to the Alpha’s whiskey.“Add everything,” he instructs, his voice hard. Always hard. Morgana's POVMy chest clenches so tightly that I can barely breathe. My stomach burns fiercely. I jolt awake, my breathing erratic as I sit up on the three-seater couch. But there is no blood spilling from my mouth and nose. I am neither in the grave nor in the afterlife.No. Far from it.I am in

  • QUEEN OF THE ALPHA KING   Betrayal’s Bitter Pill

Morganna's PovThe pit in my stomach deepens. What?!Babe?!She must have had a slip of the tongue.I expect Ryker to glare at her like he always does and tell her she is mistaken, but instead, he smiles. A smile he has never given me.“Yes!” he replies firmly. “We did it, my love.”My love?!I par

  • QUEEN OF THE ALPHA KING   Deadly Deception

Morgana' Pov“I swear, once you get my father to drink this, I will change. The reason why I have been hard on you is because Father has been annoying me a lot lately.
