Mia's Pov:

Two months ago, he died. It's been two months since I've slept peacefully. I see him when I close my eyes. My dreams have transformed into nightmares. He was the one who understood me. The one who was there for me. Now, he's gone. Who do I have left? Who do I matter too? I have nothing.

My stepmother and I recently moved to this new city. I'll be starting college today. It's been a hustle. Losing my father hasn't been the easiest to get used to.

~*~*~*~

I get dressed and go downstairs, into the kitchen.

"Morning, honey," I hear her say.

"Morning, mom," I replied to her. We're close. My biological mom left when I was young. My stepmom has been the only mom I've known.

"Are you ready for your first day of school?"

"Ugh, no, mom. Do I have to go?"

"Yes, sweetie. I'm not going to be here when you get back from school. I'm working late," she announces. Again like always.

"Okay, mom. See you whenever I do."

~*~*~*~

Once I was out of my car, everyone stopped and stared. I walk to the school door when I hear the whispers here and there. I feel like I'm walking into the lion's den. I step inside, hoping to find my way to the student's registration desk when I hit a wall. I'm about to hit the floor when I feel somebody catch me. When I look up I see the most beautiful blue eyes I have ever seen in my life. They're deep; it's like looking into the ocean. The man who's got them is hot. I don't realize how long I've been staring until I hear him clear his throat.

"Hmm, sorry," I mumble.

"No, it's okay. Next time, watch where you are going, cutie," he winks.

I feel myself blushing hot red. Surely, I must look like a tomato.

"Oh, um, hi. Would you be able to point me towards the registration desk?"

"Of course, my sister comes to this school. I can take you there. Let's go, he says.

On our way to the office, I feel like people are looking at me. When I look up some boys are looking at me like I'm their next meal. Thank God, not everyone is looking at me. I don't like to be the center of attention.

"Here we are, cutie pie."

Now, for sure, I look like a tomato.

"Thank you..."

"Damian Gray. Nice to meet you," he extends his hand to me. "You are?".

"Jessica Jones, nice to meet you," I replied.

"I will see you later, cutie," Damien says.

I made my way towards the desk.

"Hi, my name is Jessica Jones. I was hoping to get a new copy of my class schedule," I tell the lady at the desk."

"Yes, of course, do you have your student number?"

I hand over my student identification card with the information she'll need.

"Okay, I've found you," she says. She then hands me the paper she just printed with my schedule. "It looks like you were assigned someone to show you around. You can wait over there on those seats."

"Okay. Thank you so much," I replied.

I sit next to a girl with blue hair, blue cat glasses, and cute nails. I wait.

"Hey, what's your name?" I hear her ask me.

"Jessica Mia Jones. What's yours?"

"Antonella Gray. Nice to meet you. I think I've been assigned to be your tour guide today."

"Likewise," I smile at her. "Where do we start?"

Antonella stands from her seat. She extends her arms enthusiastically.

"Welcome to US University, Jessica Jones. You can call me Nella. I hope you've read the code of conduct. If not..." she leans in to whisper. "It'll be fine. I'll tell you about the most important points."

"Okay," I laugh. "In all honesty, I did not read it. I was busy moving to the city. Please call me Mia."

"No worries, girl. I've got you," she says. "Perhaps you can come to a party tonight. You'll meet some people since you're new to both the town and this college. It's a frat house party so don't set high expectations."

"I will pick you up at seven,'' she says. "You better be done by then."

I guess I have a new mother.

~*~*~*~

When I get home, I start working on my homework in my bedroom. It's five o'clock by the time I'm done with it. I have three hours to get dressed. I take a quick bath, then get dressed. I'm finished getting ready by six-thirty. I hurried downstairs to write a note to my mom letting her know that I went to a party. Twenty minutes later I hear the beep of a car horn. I hurry to get my bag and put on my shoes before heading out the door. When I get in the car, Nella introduces me to her brother who's none other than Damian Gray - the one who showed me to the registration desk - and her boyfriend, Mike.

The frat house is filled with people who've come to the party. Nella takes me straight to the drink bar. She asks for two beers.

"What do you want?" she asked me.

"I don't drink," I reply.

"Well, there's a first for everything" She winks.

She grabs the two beers that have been set on the island. She hands one to me.

"Cheers," she clicks her bottle to mine. She takes a sip from hers.

~*~*~*~

I don't know how much I've had to drink, but I feel fantastic.

"JESSICA!!!" He screeches.

"Why are you screaming, handsome?" I ask him.

"How much did you drink?" Damian asks, "I told you not to drink too much."

"But I didn't drink that much. I mean I can still count till 10" I said.

"Ok, then. Go ahead. I want to hear it," The handsome guy says.

Ok, here goes nothing. "1... 2... 4..."

"Nope, let's go. You're drunk," Damian says while he was picking me up.

"But the party...."

"You're drunk. I'm taking you home," He leaves no room for anything else.

  • Queen of Supernatural   The Doors of Burden Part B

The night refused to loosen its grip. Even as the fire dwindled into embers, the forest pressed closer, its branches groaning as though burdened by a weight no mortal eye could see. The mist had thinned after the queen’s shadow withdrew, but it lingered still, a thin veil at the edges of the glade—watching, waiting.Mia hadn’t closed her eyes once. Every time her lids grew heavy, the violet fire flared in her mind, forcing her awake. She sat with her back to a fallen log, her fingers unconsciously tracing the curve of the pendant beneath her cloak. It no longer pulsed like before, yet she felt it there, alive in the way a storm lives in clouds before lightning falls.Damian returned from his perimeter watch and crouched beside her, lowering his voice so only she could hear.“You’re still shaking.”“I’m fine,” she whispered, though the lie tasted bitter. He didn’t push, but his gaze lingered on her face, the tension in his jaw betraying the storm he swallowed back. When his hand brushe

  • Queen of Supernatural   The Doors of Burden Part A

The three doors loomed before them, carved from flame yet solid as stone, each one radiating a presence so distinct it pressed against the air like different storms colliding. The crown shimmered brightest, its fire curling into regal arcs. It radiated weight—authority, command, and dominion. Yet Mia felt a coldness at its edges, as though stepping through would mean surrendering something vital to wear its shape. The blade was sharp even in light, its form jagged and restless. A hum vibrated in her chest just looking at it, a call to act, to strike, to end. Violence made manifest, yet also resolved—unyielding, dangerous, tempting. The broken chain smoldered weakly, its embers barely holding form, but its presence was no less suffocating. A strange freedom resonated from it—an ending of bonds, yes, but also of safety. To step through that door would mean release. But release could mean ruin.“They’re not doors,” Eryx muttered, his voice tight as he studied the burning arches. “They’re

  • Queen of Supernatural   Part B: The Silence Before the Storm

The sun had barely begun to rise, its first weak rays struggling to pierce through the dense canopy. The forest ahead of them was hushed, too still for dawn, as if the very air had been caught in an eternal pause. The Seer’s staff tapped softly against the stone as they moved, the sound muffled, swallowed before it could echo. Every step seemed to weigh heavier, each breath harder to draw.“This isn’t natural,” Lysandra whispered, her voice faint, as though the silence itself pressed down on her throat. Her flames hovered above her palm, but they flickered, dimming like candles in a storm.“It’s already begun,” the Seer said quietly, her eyes scanning the path ahead. “We’ve stepped onto the boundary of the Fane. The silence isn’t absence—it’s command. It bends the will of sound itself.”Mia touched her pendant instinctively, only to flinch. It was hot now, too hot to hold, pulsing with jagged bursts that made her teeth ache. The silence wasn’t empty. It was alive.Damian noticed the s

  • Queen of Supernatural   Part A: The Silence Before the Storm

The forest had never been this quiet.Even the usual hum of insects and distant call of night creatures had vanished, as if the entire glade was holding its breath. Mia sat at the edge of the dying fire, her knees drawn tight to her chest. The pendant was cold again—but not inert. She could feel it watching her, pulsing faintly in rhythm with her own heartbeat. The others were asleep, or at least pretending to be. Kael lay against a tree trunk, his axe across his lap, eyes closed but fingers twitching every so often as if still mid-battle. Lysandra curled in her cloak, flames occasionally sparking in her hair whenever her dreams soured. Damian sat closest to Mia, not asleep at all—he never was when she couldn’t rest. His gaze scanned the treeline with the precision of a predator, but his hand occasionally brushed against hers, grounding her in the present.Only the Seer and Eryx had disappeared into the mist, seeking wards to strengthen their camp. Or maybe to argue about what to do w

  • Queen of Supernatural   Factures of the Fourth Day: Part B

The dawn didn’t rise so much as it bled. The sky above the forest shifted from black to a bruised violet-gray, clouds roiling like something wounded yet vengeful. The air itself felt charged and brittle, and the pendant at Mia’s throat pulsed in rhythm with her heartbeat—as if it wanted to set the tempo of the day.No one spoke as they broke camp. Silence had settled over the group like frost. Even the crackle of Lysandra’s fire when she doused the embers seemed muted, swallowed by the heavy mist curling low through the trees.Mia clutched the pendant tight beneath her cloak, trying to will it silent. But the queen’s voice still lingered from the night before, an echo that refused to fade. Tomorrow, you will see what it means to be mine. The path wound downward, twisting between gnarled roots and moss-soaked stones. Damian led, eyes sharp, every muscle taut like a bowstring ready to snap. Kael trailed just behind him, his sword strapped across his back, but his hand never straying far

  • Queen of Supernatural   Fractures of the Fourth Day: Part A

Dawn never came. When Mia opened her eyes, the world was already drenched in twilight, the sky bruised purple and black as though the sun had been swallowed whole. The campfire had died to embers, and the forest pressed close—silent, suffocating, alive.Damian was the first she saw, already awake, crouched near the dying fire with his blade across his knees. His gaze was fixed outward, but his posture was taut, too still. Not guarding—listening.“You feel it too,” Mia whispered, her voice rough. He nodded once, not looking at her. “Day Four.”The words were enough to wake the others. Lysandra stirred with a shiver, her hands glowing faintly as she rubbed the sleep from her eyes. Kael stretched, but his movements were sharp and restless, like a caged beast pacing. Eryx sat cross-legged, his stones already hovering in a lazy orbit above his palms, their hum cutting the silence like a heartbeat. The Seer alone had not slept at all. She stood at the edge of the camp, robes billowing sligh
