CHAPTER FIFTY TWO: READING THE ROOM

I watched as Raine swished past me, her hips moving just the way that I like. In that way you know she is doing it on purpose, making sure you are paying attention. The outfit she wore today made her stand out even more than usual, not that she needed help in any way.

No matter how she was acting, she wanted him to notice. And boy did he. She left her sweet scent in the room. I took a deep breath wondering how I was going to get her alone. That seemed to be the best course of action when it came to her. She had all this courage and control when there was a room full of people, but these rules she struggled to convince herself to live by would go out the window when it was just him and her.

I heard the clearing of a throat, forgetting that I wasn’t alone in the room. The young man that was paid to follow her around all day stared at me, waiting for me to leave. He leaned against the long floor bookshelf Raine had, that held a few books and statues for aesthetic pleasure.
