Eva's POV

"Now is your chance Eva, you have to run now. The guards aren't watching here" Matteo said to me in a desperate voice. My eyes widened at his words and I shook my head.

"No, I'm not leaving you, you have to come with me!" I said to him back but he pushed me away, looking even more desperate.

"Get out of here now! I'll hold the guards back. We can't both leave here. We'll be caught. Please, Eva leave now" He said and tears welled in my eyes.

"But if I leave you behind you'll be punished. Matteo please-"

"I believe you'll come back for me. Go on and prove us both innocent" He interrupted me with a small smile. I wiped my tears and nodded, I was being emotional and he was right. If we both try to escape together, we would be caught.

"I promise I'll be back for you. I'll prove you innocent and get you out of this hell hole" I promised and he nodded.

"Leave Eva! I can hear their footsteps! Leave now" he yelled and I started to run. I turned back one last time to take a look at Matteo before running.

I ran like my feet were on fire, I couldn't stop to catch my breath. I didn't dare to. Tears fell freely down my face but I didn't stop moving. I heard loud sirens from behind me and I guessed they must have noticed that I was gone.

I couldn't let myself get caught. Matteo and I had planned this escape for years. I couldn't let all of our efforts go to waste now.

Eight years ago, I had been thrown into this hell hole that people called prison. It was more of a torture dungeon than a prison. Eight years of my life was wasted here. I had been wrongfully convicted of murdering a high profile person. I was thrown into prison without even getting a chance to defend myself properly.

While in jail, I had hopes that my family would fight for me. That they would get a good lawyer to get me out of this hell hole. Everyday I was on my best behaviour, waiting for better news but I got none. After five years, my hopes were completely dashed. I then realized the reality of things, no one was coming to save me.

That was until I met Matteo. We were both on kitchen duty that day and we clicked like old friends. Matteo told me his story as well. Just like me, he had been wrongly accused and convicted of raping a little girl. I was a bit doubtful and skeptical of him. But then, we were already in prison, there was no reason for anyone to lie about the crime they committed or act innocent, everyone was boastful of what they had done to deserve their sentence.

Everyone but Matteo and I, then I started to believe him. He was in the same situation as I was. Matteo slapped me back to reality, making me understand that only I could save myself. No one was coming from me. And so three years ago we decided to plan our escape.

We acted on our best behaviour to gain favor of the guards so they would be more free around us and allow us access into restricted areas. Our plan was drafted out carefully and today, it was carried out.

We finally found freedom but Matteo was not willing to come with me. My heart squeezed in pain as I imagine the punishment and torture he would be put through for planning an escape with me.

"I promise I'll be back, I'll get you out of there" I whispered to myself.

After running for what felt like hours, I collapsed on the ground, breathing like a dog. My lungs felt like they were on fire and I desperately searched for water. Luckily I found a quiet lake nearby, there was no one around thankfully.

I drank the water and stripped my clothes to wash up. The cold water on my body calmed me down a lot and helped me clear my head so I could think better. I soon got out and started asking for directions to go home. I avoided crowded areas so I wouldn't run into cops who had probably been alerted about my escape. People stared at me like I was crazy but I couldn't care less.

After almost four hours of walking, I finally arrived at my family mansion. The sight of the huge building brought back memories. I swallowed bitterly and squeezed my palm. It had been over eight years since I saw any of my family and I didn't know if I was ready to face them. I wanted to know why none of them fought for me. Why none of them even bothered to pay me a visit. Did they really think I committed the murder I was accused of?

I made my way into Grayson garden, the place hadn't changed much. However, my steps slowed down when I heard voices. I stilled as I recognized those voices. I pushed forward to see two people sitting together. A man whose back was turned to me and a woman rested on him. She had curly blonde hair and bright green eyes that I would never forget.

It was none other than my sister, Livia and she was sitting on my fiance Adrian. My eyes widened in shock when I saw how intimate they were being and I felt even more confused. What were they doing?

They both seemed happy and fine, had they really forgotten about me. I was about to take a step forward to approach them but I paused when I heard Livia speak.

"I can't believe it's been a year already, my love" she said in her usual high pitched voice and I froze.

My love? Was she referring to Adrian as her love?

"I also cannot believe it, our wedding was the biggest and most lavish I had ever seen. And you were the prettiest bride ever" Adrian replied with a chuckle and I felt my whole world crashing down.

Wedding? Bride? My love? What in the world was going on here?

  • REBIRTH: I married the devil himself   Chapter 89

Eva's POVFor a moment, everything felt like it had been suspended in place, as though the room itself had paused to take in what had just happened. Lola’s hand was still mid-air, caught in a grip she clearly hadn’t expected, and the tension that had been building all evening shifted so suddenly that I almost didn’t process it right away. Then I saw him.And something in my chest loosened in a way I hadn’t realized I needed.Relief came first, sharp and immediate, followed closely by something quieter, something warmer that I didn’t quite name but couldn’t ignore either. I hadn’t expected him to show up like this, not at that exact moment, not with that kind of presence, and yet there he was, standing between me and everything that had been closing in just seconds ago.I hadn’t been afraid. I knew that much. But

Ethan's POV I kept working and sorting out the company's files, I didn't realize time had flown so much. It wasn’t until I leaned back slightly, rolling the stiffness out of my shoulders, that I finally glanced at the time.9:07 PM.For a moment, I just stared at it, letting the number settle in my mind before the realization followed right behind it. I was late for the family dinner.A quiet exhale left me as I pushed back my chair, the faint scrape against the floor louder than it should have been in the empty office. I had planned this better, or at least I had thought I did, blocking out enough time to finish everything before heading over, making sure nothing urgent would pull me back.Clearly, that hadn’t gone as planned.I reached for my phone as I stood, already mentally adjusting what needed to be done next, when the screen lit up with a notification. It was a message from Stone Face.I paused for a fraction of a second before opening it, my gaze scanning the short line of t

  • REBIRTH: I married the devil himself   Chapter 87

Eva's POVFor a moment after Ezra’s words settled, I just looked at her, trying to decide whether I had heard her correctly or if I had misunderstood the tone behind it. There was something deliberate in the way she spoke, something layered beneath the calm surface, and it didn’t sit right with me.“What do you mean by that?” I asked, my voice steady but edged with quiet disbelief as I leaned forward just slightly, my attention fixed on her.Ezra didn’t answer immediately. Instead, her lips curved into a faint smile, one that didn’t carry warmth, only a kind of quiet satisfaction, like she had already achieved what she intended by saying it in the first place. Before she could respond, Anna cut in.“Oh, come on,” Anna began, her tone light but dismissive, as though she were brushing aside something insignificant. “Let’s n

Eva's POV The tension at the table hadn’t eased, not even slightly, and I could still feel the weight of their scrutiny pressing in from every side. I heard the sound of the door opening and turned to see that Lola was walking inside. She appeared at the doorway with the same sharp presence she had earlier, though this time there was no mask of composure, no attempt at control. Her gaze swept across the room quickly, dismissing everyone else in a second before it landed on me.And froze, more specifically on where I was sitting. Her expression changed instantly, the irritation rising so fast it barely gave her time to contain it. “What is she doing there?” she demanded, her voice cutting through the room as she stepped inside without waiting for acknowledgment. Every head turned toward her, though no one spoke immediately. Her eyes locked onto mine again, sharper now, incredulous.“Stand up,” she said, her tone direct and commanding, like she expected obedience without question.I d

  • REBIRTH: I married the devil himself   Chapter 85

Eva's POV“There you are,” she said as she lifted a hand slightly in invitation. “Come closer, child.”I didn’t hesitate. I closed the distance between us, aware of every pair of eyes tracking my movement, measuring, judging, questioning, but I didn’t let it slow me down. When I reached her, I leaned in gently and wrapped my arms around her in a brief, respectful hug. She returned it without pause, her hand coming up to rest lightly against my back, the gesture natural and unforced.“I’ve been waiting to meet you properly,” she murmured, just loud enough for me to hear.“So have I,” I replied quietly, pulling back. When I straightened, I caught the expression on her face again—pleased, genuinely so—and it struck me how different it was from the rest of the room.“Sit here,” she said, gesturing to the seat on her left.

  • REBIRTH: I married the devil himself   Chapter 84

Eva's POVThe silence that followed that single sentence—Ethan’s fiancée—didn’t break immediately. It stretched, thin and fragile, as if the entire room needed a moment to rearrange itself around what had just been said.I could feel it in the way their gazes lingered longer now, sharper, less curious and more deliberate, like they were trying to measure me against a standard I hadn’t been introduced to.Anna was the first to recover.“That’s… unexpected,” she said, though the word didn’t quite cover the expression on her face. Her brows were drawn together, her lips pressed slightly as she looked toward Ethan’s grandmother. “We’ve never heard anything about Ethan being engaged.”Her tone wasn’t outright accusatory, but it carried enough disbelief to make the question beneath it obvious.“You weren’t meant to,” Ethan’s grandmother replied calmly, folding her hands lightly on the table. “Which is exactly why we’re all here tonight.”Anna blinked once, clearly not satisfied with that an
