LOGINOut of curiosity, I immediately pushed open the door. Instantly, I dropped the cake I was carrying—a cake I’d baked myself with all my love.
My chest felt tight. My body trembled the moment I saw David.
Yes, my husband, whom I love so dearly. My husband, who is the center of my world. My husband, whom I’d always believed to be faithful.
He was completely naked, not a single thread on his body. And on the table, there was a woman who was also topless, her legs spread wide apart. Her skirt was still draped around her waist.
Seeing that, a wave of nausea hit me. How could David, in full possession of his senses, be having sex with another woman? And he was doing it in the office.
“David, she knows...”
I stared in disbelief as I realized who that woman was. Lidia. The woman who was my confidante, my best friend—the one I’d helped get hired at the company and eventually become David’s secretary.
I stood frozen, staring at them with a look of disgust. Hoping David would apologize, beg for forgiveness for his mistake.
However, the words that came out of his mouth only made me even more incredulous.
“Let her find out. I’m going to divorce her sooner or later anyway,” he said. Then, calmly, he pulled up the pants that had slipped down to his ankles, picked up his clothes, and put them on without the slightest hint of nervousness.
I took slow steps, my legs trembling. “What do you mean, David? And you, Lidia… how could you do this? You know I love him so much, don’t you? You know he’s my husband, but you—”
I couldn’t bring myself to finish my sentence. My chest felt so tight it was as if I were running out of oxygen. I felt the room closing in on me. It was as if it were crushing my body, preventing me from thinking clearly.
Especially when David actually pulled Lidia close by the waist, as if to show that what he was doing wasn’t a big mistake.
“You already knew, didn’t you? So now I don’t have to hide anymore.”
“David, what on earth is this?”
“Amora, I never loved you. I married you just for your money. And now, everything is mine.”
I shook my head slowly, still hoping that what David said wasn’t true.
How could this be happening? We’ve been married for five years, and all this time he’s always shown me his love. How could he say something like that now? How could he change so quickly?
“David, you’re lying, aren’t you? You’re saying this on purpose because you want to surprise me, right? I’m not angry. I’ll just assume you and she are drunk—as long as you don’t talk like this,” I said softly.
“You idiot! You’re still so stupid, Amora!”
My gaze shifted to Lidia. A sneering smile played on her lips, as if she felt she’d won by what she’d accomplished.
“Shut your mouth, Lidia! I’ll destroy you for ruining my marriage!”
Far from being afraid, Lidia just laughed scornfully. With her clothes still in disarray, she strode haughtily toward me.
“You’re the stupid one, Amora. David already told you the truth, but you’re still so stupid. Just so you know, David and I were already in a relationship before you two got married. We planned all of this to take your wealth and destroy you!”
I clenched my fists tightly upon hearing that. With my fist clenched, I immediately punched Lidia in the jaw, sending her body flying backward as she screamed in pain.
“You damn slut! What are you doing?!” Lidia snapped.
“Slut? I’m the one who should be saying that! You’re the damn slut! I’m going to kill both of you! I won’t let you live! You’re going to die by my own hands for lying to me!”
“Before you do that, we’ll kill you first, Amora!” David interjected.
“That’ll never happen! I can kill both of you!” I said firmly, not the least bit afraid of David’s threat.
Far from being afraid, David burst out laughing, then walked slowly toward me.
“How are you going to kill us? You’re all alone, and there’s no one else in this office, Amora. You’re the one who’s going to die, and I’ll be the sole owner of your fortune.”
My jaw clenched. I moved forward first. Even though I’m a woman, I wasn’t afraid. I could kill him with my own hands.
But instead, David grabbed me and choked me tightly. My throat felt constricted, and my eyes turned red as I struggled to breathe.
“You’re being a real handful, Amora. So I’m sorry I have to do this.”
“Let… let go, David…” I gasped, my hands struggling to pry his grip loose, but he tightened his hold around my neck even more.
“I won’t, because you have to die, Amora!”
With the last of my strength, I lifted my leg and kicked David in the groin. Instantly, he screamed in pain and immediately released his grip from my neck.
“Aaah... you damn bitch!”
I had to get out of this room. I had to meet my lawyer and reclaim everything that belonged to me.
But Lidia grabbed and pulled my hand.
“Where are you going? I won’t let you get out of here alive!” she said.
“Let go of my hand, Lidia!” I snapped, trying to shake her grip off.
Suddenly, a hard object struck my head with great force. I felt warm liquid flowing down my forehead.
Still, I tried to hold on. I couldn’t die. I wouldn’t let them live happily ever after.
“You think you can kill me, David? It’s not that easy. I’m not going to die just because you hit me with a bottle!”
“Fine, then… what if your body were to fall from this floor? Would you still not die, Amora?”
“What’s going on here?”I turned around as Mira walked in. Behind her was Elena, following with a curious look on her face.“Wow, what is it this time? You never stop causing controversy, Bella!” she exclaimed. Her arms were crossed over her chest, and she glared at me with an annoyed expression. I completely ignored her, turning to look at Mira, who was shocked by what she saw. “Bella, what’s wrong, sweetie? Why did you throw away all your favorite collectible dolls? They’re still brand new—they were a gift from Mom. You said you loved them so much—why did you throw them away?” Mira asked again.I exhaled softly, rubbing my temples, which ached. “I don’t like any of them, so I threw them away.”“You don’t like them? Why? Didn’t you want to be a Barbie? Didn’t you want to be beautiful and graceful so Varo would like you?”I shook my head slowly. I felt like this Bella was becoming a fool because of the people in this house. How could someone who’s twenty years old still be playing w
Today I was finally allowed to go home. Since I regained consciousness, I’d been in the hospital for about two weeks—one week in a coma and one week after waking up.Alvaro, that handsome but cold man, didn’t come to visit me again.I didn’t care either. Even if this wedding were called off, I wouldn’t mind. Because with Bella’s body, I’m going to change everything.I won’t let Bella be looked down upon. A chubby body—why not? Bella is beautiful, but it seems I need to adopt a healthier lifestyle. I don’t want to die twice before I’ve settled all my scores. And Bella’s father—I don’t know what he does for a living because, according to Mira, he’s still out of town on business.Elena—she’s always here, but her face shows her disdain. She’s just showing off, bragging about her life at college, and constantly belittling Bella for not continuing her education. The car pulled up right in front of a luxurious house. Turns out Bella is the daughter of a wealthy family, too. That made me curi
“Don’t talk like that, Elena. After all, Bella is your older sister; you have to respect her.”“Ugh, Mom’s stepsister! I’m embarrassed to have a sister like her. Did Mom forget that back in school she embarrassed us by almost failing to graduate? And to top it off, she actually asked to marry Alvaro. That’s crazy, right?”I just stayed silent, listening to the conversation between the mother and daughter. From that, I pieced together one fact: the middle-aged woman named Mira was Bella’s stepmother, and Elena was her stepsister. No wonder her gaze toward Bella was anything but sincere.“Don’t be like that. After all, she’s my daughter; I’m still proud of Bella. As for marrying Alvaro, I’ll discuss this with her father. Hopefully, I can arrange for you to marry Alvaro,” she said, looking in my direction. “You still want to marry Alvaro, right, Bella?”I stayed silent, unsure of what to say. I also didn’t know what Alvaro looked like. Was he a fat guy too, or…?Ah, I didn’t want to thin
“Don’t talk to her too much just yet—let me examine her first,” interrupted the doctor, who had just arrived and was approaching with the nurse from earlier.I remained motionless, staring at these strangers. Why were they calling me Bella?Who is Bella?“Look at me,” the doctor instructed me, then asked me to open my mouth, and pulled out a glowing object that looked like a small flashlight to examine my eyes.He nodded his head; it seemed the results of the examination were what he expected. Next to him, the nurse was writing down everything the doctor said—things I didn’t understand at all.“How are you feeling?” the doctor asked again.“I’m… I’m fine,” I said softly.“Thank goodness. You’ve been here for a week, Bella. Your heart is weak. From now on, you need to be even more careful.”My heart is weak? Since when have I had a heart condition? I’ve always been healthy—I’m just a fool for loving David. And why is this doctor calling me Bella? Who is this Bella? Why is everyone here
My body froze at those words. Even if I survived, I would surely be severely disabled.“Why? Are you scared, Amora?” Lidia asked with a condescending laugh.I held my ground, even though I was actually afraid. Given what she’d already done to me, I was sure she was capable of anything. And pushing me off this floor… she would definitely do it.“No! Because I won’t die. Even if I die, I’ll come back! I’ll make you suffer. I’ll make you forget that I’m Amora—the one who can do anything!”David and Lidia burst out laughing, as if what I’d said was nothing but a joke. Then they exchanged glances, as if signaling each other. After that, David came closer and pulled my hand forcefully toward the window. I tried to hold on, but his pull was so strong that we ended up outside—on the balcony. The place I’d once built to gaze at the view when I felt exhausted from all the work. And this, my most comfortable place, would bear witness to how my husband and his mistress would kill me.“Don’t you w
