Calla POV

Three years later

I know I’m not in my bedroom before I even open my eyes.

The lighting’s wrong. This room is easily thrice the size of mine. A huge crystal chandelier dangles from the off white ceiling.

The furniture looks like it’s just been imported from Europe. Wood cackles in the fireplace.

The air smells like cheddar and cologne, but nothing, and I mean nothing, can hide the obvious smell of sex in the air.

It all comes rushing back to me. Horrifying images from last night.

Letting down my walls. Accepting the first glass of whisky from Blade. That would be my first mistake.

After that, everything else had spiraled out of control.

A massive figure stirs next to me. I do not need to look to know that it’s Blade.

I can smell the Dior cologne emanating from his side of the bed. It’s mixed with that manly scent that is uniquely Blade.

No doubt, this is his bedroom. It’s funny how I’ve never been allowed to spend the night in this room in the three years that I’ve been the Alpha’s official breeder.

I’m still considering pretending to go back to sleep when he pulls himself up into a sitting position.

Even though everything in me is screaming at me not to look, I look anyway.

He’s got his face looking upwards towards the ceiling. There’s something akin to disgust on his face.

And just like that, whatever shred of hope I’d clung on to last night, goes crashing down all around me.

I don’t dare breathe, as I wait for him to say something. He knows I’m watching him, waiting for his verdict. He makes me wait. Let me stew in my nervousness.

The seconds stretch. It’s awkward.

Last night was obviously a mistake. I don’t know what it was that I was thinking.

None of this would have happened if only I hadn’t accepted that blasted whisky.

But how could I have refused when he had looked at me with such warmth and vulnerability?

The Alpha of Ash Creek pack had clung on to me with all his might.

I could tell something had happened yesterday, but I didn’t ask.

I didn’t push him away. I let him hold me. I didn’t pull away when he pressed his nose against my neck, inhaling my scent.

It was the first time he’d ever shown such emotion to me and oh boy, did I eat it right up?

I can still feel the imprint of his lips on my clit. If I shut my eyes tightly enough, I can still conjure what his kisses taste like. Mint and whisky.

The dirty little nothings he had whispered in my ear, as he fucks me, replay over and over again in my mind’s eye.

Pictures of our raw, unbridled fucking threaten my sanity.

My master.

After three years of playing the role of breeder, last night had been the first time we’d been intimate.

Correction

The first time he’d held me like I mattered.

Last night was our first kiss. The first time he ever held me so close.

Looking at him now; at that disgust on his face, I highly suspect he’s about to break my heart in new ways yet to be seen.

But I don’t want him to be the one who gets to let me down easily.

It’s humiliating enough to have given him so much vulnerability last night. I don’t want to give him this right as well.

“Last night,” I began.

“Was a mistake,” he finishes for me.

He’s still not looking at me. He plucks a cigarette out of the custom-made pack and sticks it in his mouth.

He lights it up and takes a lazy puff.

The tattoos that coil around his arms and torso, glow underneath the crystal lightings. He looks ethereal and viscous, all at once.

I stare at him in a daze. I can’t believe how non-chalant he is. How can he be so indifferent?

My heart’s racing. My vision of Blade blurs the longer I stare at him.

“It’s morning,” he says, dropping more hints with his aloof body language. “I have a meeting at the office by 8. I need to get ready. You should head back to your room.”

“What do you mean last night was a mistake?” I ask, finally finding my voice. It’s hoarse and cracks pathetically.

“If I remember correctly, y-you came on to me first. You initiated the kiss. Y-you held me and wouldn’t let go until I kissed you back. You held me in your arms all through the night. How can you act like none of that had happened?”

“What is it exactly that you’re asking?” he puts out his cigarette on the ash tray.

I realize he’s got one on his dresser. There’s so much I don’t know about his personal life. The need to know feels like a nasty itch, waiting to be scratched.

“I-I was okay with being just your breeder up until last night,” I tremble with the force it takes for me not to cry.

Heavens know I’m barely hanging by a thread.

“Was last night really a mistake? Did none of it mean nothing to you?”

“Calla,” he snaps. His eyes flash with impatience. Thinly veiled irritation. “What’s the first rule of our arrangement?”

Fuck that!

I couldn’t care about the bloody rules right now. Not when I’m hurting and feeling used.

When Blade sees I’m not about to answer him, he goes on to remind me of the rule.

One of the many he had stipulated on the first night he’d taken me to bed.

“No sentiments,” he adds.

“From the first day we met, I told you that ours wouldn’t be a real relationship. The only reason I chose you as my breeder was to produce heirs. So far, you’ve only managed to give me a daughter. Don’t you turn around and start pulling this sentimental crap first thing in the morning. Focus that energy on getting pregnant and giving me sons.”

“Sentimental crap!” I re-echo. I can’t believe how cruel he’s being.

“You came on to me. If you care about your rules as much as you claim, you shouldn’t have crossed the line between us.”

“I regret it,” his words cut through my heart like a blade of destruction.

“On top of that, I was batshit drunk.”

He doesn’t apologize. He says nothing more on the matter.

He merely gets off the mattress and disappears into his adjoining bathroom. A moment later, I hear the shower running.

I’m still sitting in the same spot, still staring off into the distance.

My name is Calla. Three years ago, I was sold off by my father for the sake of an alliance bet

ween Ash Creek and Dashbury packs.

A beacon of peace, forced to end the war between both our werewolf families.

Three years ago, Blade Blackthorn made me his official breeder.

  • RECLAIMING THEIR EX-BREEDER    Chapter 113: The Valley Of Kings

Calla's POVI waited until the camp went quiet. The fires had burned low across the hollow. Somewhere out in the dark, a wounded wolf was still moaning, the sound was thin and steady, the way it had been all night. Two more tents stood empty at the eastern edge … the wolves who’d slept in them were on the cart now, or in the ground. No one had said it out loud. No one had to.Inside the tent, Brynne slept.I sat beside him in the dim light and looked at him for a long time. The lines of his face had gone soft in sleep, all the Alpha hardness melted off him. He looked younger like this. I had everything ready. The gloves were on, drawn up past my elbows to hide the veins. The knife was tucked in my back pocket. The little pouch with the vials sat against my hip, and a small bundle of food and a waterskin waited by the tent flap. There was nothing left to do but go.But I couldn’t make myself stand up yet.So I leaned down instead, and I kissed him.I meant it to be quick. A goodbye h

  • RECLAIMING THEIR EX-BREEDER    Chapter 112: The Garden

Bianca's POVI turned over in bed and stared at the wall.I had been awake for hours, but I couldn’t make myself get up. The morning light crept across the floor, and the palace stirred to life around me… footsteps in the halls, voices, it was just the ordinary noise of a place trying to pretend everything was normal. It wasn’t normal. Nothing had been normal since the news about my sister spread.I finally pushed myself up and dressed. I needed to do something with my hands, something useful. I always helped around the palace in the mornings … in the kitchens, with the laundry, wherever they needed an extra pair of hands. I liked the work. It kept me busy. It made me feel like I belonged somewhere. But the moment I walked into the kitchens, the talking stopped. The women I’d worked beside for days now turned away from me. One of them pulled a basket of bread out of my reach like I might poison it just by being close. Another whispered something to the girl next to her, and they bo

  • RECLAIMING THEIR EX-BREEDER    Chapter 111: Reasons to Run

Calla's POVThe pain woke me before the light did.It started in my wrist, the way it always did now, a deep burning that crawled up toward my shoulder. I lay still on the bedroll for a moment, breathing through it, listening to Brynne’s slow breaths beside me. He was still out cold, sprawled on his back, dead to the world. He’d drunk enough last night to fell three men.I eased myself up without waking him and reached for the small pouch I kept tucked in my dress. It was Brynne’s idea, the remedy. A few days ago, when the pain first got bad, he’d cut his own palm and let a little of his blood drip into a cup of water and crushed herbs. Alpha blood is strong, he’d said. It won’t cure it. But it might hold it back.It had sounded strange to me at first. Mad, even. Drinking his blood like some creature out of an old story. But it worked. Not completely. The veins still spread. But when I drank it, the burning dulled. The fever eased. I could think straight again, could stand without

  • RECLAIMING THEIR EX-BREEDER     Chapter 110: What the Drink Loosens

Calla's POVBrynne stormed out of the tent first.“Fuck,” he said under his breath. Then louder, to no one. “Fuck.”I slipped out after him, keeping my hood up. He was walking fast, his shoulders tight, his hands still curled like he wanted to hit something. The whole camp seemed to lean away from him as he passed. Even the wounded went quiet.I had to half-run to keep up.He didn’t head back to his tent. He cut across the hollow toward the far edge of the camp, where a larger tent sat with its sides rolled up and a few rough tables set out front. It was the closest thing this place had to a pub … a supply tent that someone had turned into a drinking spot, with barrels in the back and tired soldiers hunched over cups. The smell of cheap ale drifted out into the cold.Brynne walked straight in and slammed his hand on a barrel.“Drink,” he told the man behind it. “All of it.”I stopped at the edge of the light.I should stop him. That was my first thought. He was the Alpha. He had a

  • RECLAIMING THEIR EX-BREEDER    Chapter 109: The Negotiator

Calla's POVThe meeting tent was bigger than Brynne’s. A low fire burned in the center, and the air was thick with smoke and the smell of too many bodies. Brynne’s commanders stood along one side. Across from them, near the entrance, the enemy’s messenger waited under a white cloth tied to a stick … the flag of truce.I stayed close behind Brynne with my hood low, just like I’d promised. Just another guard. Just a shape in the shadows. Then the messenger turned his head, and the firelight caught his face.I froze.I knew him.I knew him so well it made my blood go cold. I had seen that face a hundred times. In Tyson’s halls. At Tyson’s table. Standing at Tyson’s shoulder while Tyson spoke to me soft and kind and told me I was safe.He was Tyson’s right hand. His closest man. The one who never left his side. And he was standing ten feet from me.My heart slammed so hard I thought everyone could hear it. I wanted to run. I wanted to disappear into the ground. Coming here had been a m

  • RECLAIMING THEIR EX-BREEDER    Chapter 108: The Message

Calla's POVI pushed open the flap of Brynne’s tent and stepped inside.“Oh, fuck. What the hell.”Cass was sitting on the bed. The one with the scar across his jaw and now he just looked scarier. He sat there like he owned the place, elbows on his knees, watching me with calm eyes. The little fire in the corner threw shadows across his face.My hand went straight to my back pocket. Brynne had given me a small knife earlier, just in case. My fingers closed around the handle.“What are you doing here?” I asked. My voice came out steadier than I felt.Cass smiled. It wasn’t a friendly smile.“I have a little message for you, dear Calla.”My stomach dropped. He knew my name. Brynne had told me to keep it secret, and this man was already using it like it was nothing.“From who?” I asked. I kept my hand on the knife.“Oh.” Cass leaned back, slow and easy. “Just our future Alpha. Tyson.”The name hit me like cold water. My knees went weak. I had to lock them so I wouldn’t drop. Tyson. Calla’s POVI was sweaty, sore, and ready to collapse.Training with Tyson was not the kind of thing you walked away from feeling good about yourself. Blade’s POVThe study had seen better nights. Two chairs had been relocated to the far wall after he’d thrown them there. A glass had met its end against the fireplace sometime around midnight and nobody had been brave enough to clean it up yet. The map of Ash Creek’s surrounding territories was

Calla’s POV We left before the city woke up. Tyson had the car packed and idling at the snow-capped 4:45. I carried Adele down in her blanket, her rabbit tucked under her arm, her boots left unlaced because she had insisted on wearing them despite the hour and I hadn’t had the energy to argue.
