THIRD PERSON'S POV

Danielle sat perched close to the window in the living room, tracing shapes on the fog of the glass.

The day was dragging by too slowly and she was bored. Daddy had gone out early in the morning, leaving her with Mrs Rodriguez who kept asking if she wanted anything.

Each time, Danielle said no because she didn't want anything, she just didn't want to be alone.

Seated by the window, she couldn't help thinking about the last time she saw mommy. She had seemed so sad and Danielle wondered if she and Daddy fought.

She didn't want her parents to fight but she also couldn't ask them if they did. What if it saddened mommy even more?

She pressed her face to the window and exhaled then drew a heart which she quickly wiped off before anyone could see.

Just then, the front bell rang and she jerked backwards. Her eyes lit up at the prospect that mommy was back and she nimbly got off the chair.

Mrs Rodriguez was faster though, emerging from the kitchen to open the door.

  • REGRET UNTIL SHE SAYS GOODBYE    Chapter 197

THIRD PERSON’S POVAlaric’s words hadn’t even dropped fully before he stepped away from the table.Leah rose with him as well, taking a step forward that earned her a sharp look from him.“Mr Lennox, Alaric…” She called, testing the waters. His frown deepened into a scowl and she hurriedly corrected herself. “Mr Lennox.”“You really don’t need to…” Her fingers brushed his sleeves lightly but before she could let them settle on his skin, his gaze dropped and she hurriedly withdrew her hands.Leah let out a soft laugh but the light didn’t reach her eyes. “I can assure you that you are worrying too much. Sara told me herself that she wanted some quiet time to herself.”Immediately, Alaric tried to think back to the bits and pieces of their conversation that he’d heard and he couldn’t recall Sara saying something like that.Leah scanned his face carefully, knowing he held his doubts. “Woman to woman, we talked right before we left.”Alaric’s gaze on her deepened. “When did she say that to

  • REGRET UNTIL SHE SAYS GOODBYE    Chapter 196

THIRD PERSON'S POVAlaric glanced at his wrist watch for the upteenth time since Sara left the room.He knew exactly when she left and that turned out to be the reason for his worry now, because she had been gone for quite a while, longer than he estimated it would take her to use the restroom and return. It left him feeling unsettled, and he couldn't keep from glancing at her empty seat across from him.The chair stood at the same angle she'd left it in and the napkin on her table was placed in that weird, quirky way he'd noticed she liked to have it folded.Sara didn't know this, but he knew a whole lot about her, from her little habits that she thought weren't worthy of notice to the way she liked to press her lips together when something confused her and how she tended to gently rub at her skin when she felt cold.He noticed them all and studying these things about her had become a habit he couldn't get rid of.His attention was always fixated on her, both in public and private sp

  • REGRET UNTIL SHE SAYS GOODBYE    Chapter 195

THIRD PERSON’S POVDanielle rubbed her bleary eyes and trudged out of her room. She’d just woken up, having no clue what had startled her awake.Nanny hadn’t come to stir her awake just yet so she knew that it wasn't time for her to start preparing for school just yet.Last night, she’d waited for a really long time for daddy to return from work, not because she missed him but because she missed Mommy and wanted Daddy to call her so she could speak to her.She had tried asking nanny to call Mommy but try as nanny might, it was the answering machine that kept responding, not mommy and after several tries, she got disheartened but not discouraged and resolved to ask Daddy to call instead.“Danielle, it’s time for bed,” Nanny had reminded several times last night but each time, she shook her head, refusing to.“Nanny, please, I want to wait for Daddy.”Each time she said that, it was with large, pleading eyes that had eventually gotten her what she wanted. And every time Nanny sighed in

  • REGRET UNTIL SHE SAYS GOODBYE    Chapter 194

SARA’S POVLaurent nodded as though he had actually heard me and was going to listen to me but in actuality, his eyes remained fixated on my face. He didn’t move too, and kept his hands close to my head.Bracing myself with a scowl etched on my face to keep him from closing the distance between us inappropriately, I pushed myself off the wall and forced myself to walk past him.I kept my focus on the wall and on the doors, anything to help me feel sane. Laurent had already gotten a whiff of my drunkenness and it occurred to me that I couldn’t let him know just how much the alcohol had taken control of my body and vision.Who knew what he would do otherwise.I had to act like I was okay, just until I made it back to our reserved room but the heat was curling through my veins and a strange heaviness settled behind my eyes, making my shut intermittently and forcing me to pinch the space between my brows to stay awake. Then, I figured out that I couldn’t make it to the guest room in this

  • REGRET UNTIL SHE SAYS GOODBYE    Chapter 193

SARA’S POVThe chair scraped loudly against the floor as I stood, the sound cutting through the low murmur of conversation around the table.Too loud.Everything felt too loud.“I’ll be right back,” I repeated, more for myself than for anyone else, because my ears were ringing and my thoughts felt slow, as though they were wading through something thick.I didn’t wait for a response. The walk to the restroom felt longer than it had earlier. The corridor lights were warmer now, softer, and the carpet beneath my heels seemed to dip and rise in ways it hadn’t before. I focused on putting one foot in front of the other, on keeping my posture upright, on not letting the dizziness show. You barely drank anything, I told myself. It was just a sip.My reflection in the mirror startled me when I pushed into the restroom. I looked pale. My eyes seemed unfocused, glassy, like I’d been crying though I hadn’t.I braced my hands on the sink, breathing slowly. In and out, with really slow motions

  • REGRET UNTIL SHE SAYS GOODBYE    Chapter 192

THIRD PERSON'S POVThe dining room shone under the chandeliers and the soft clinking noise of cutleries accompanied the quiet hum of polite conversation. Sara adjusted her posture, making sure the tension in her shoulders was not noticeable. She had stepped in with a facade of cam politeness, even though her eyes had carefully scrutinized everyone in the room, starting from the first two people she was wary of-Laurent and Lisa. She thought she and Alaric had left their hotel quite early but they were still one of the last ones to arrive here but nobody had pointed that out or mentioned it although Sara had a feeling someone would have said something had she not come with Alaric.Leah had taken the seat beside Alaric with a practiced ease, sliding in as though she owned the place and surprisingly, Alaric let her.Sara however didn't think much of it and thought it had much to do with the private conversation Leah had held with him yesterday. She assumed something had happened between
