Ella Holden POV

The only thing my eyes focused on was his hand, hanging loose in the air, veins running along it in a way that looked impossibly strong and beautiful. I almost reached out to touch it, until he stopped me with a tired voice.

“You were awake! Get up already. My arm is numb, and it’s about to cramp because of your hard head!”

That’s when I realized Marcus had woken up, curse him, after that night that had shaken us both. I quickly sat up and pulled away from the couch, my eyes flicking nervously toward his tense face.

“Damn it.”

He pressed a hand to his forehead, whispering in frustration. Then suddenly, he lifted his gaze, and the sharpness in his eyes made my heart jump.

“You’re the reason for everything that’s happening to me, Ella.”

His jaw clenched tight, anger written all over him, before he rose to his full height, towering above me.

“I haven’t let myself drink that much in years. And here I am, still fighting the hangover, all because of my stupidity with you.”
