I rushed down the stairs at the sound of a car driving through the driveway,my face held a radiant smile as I tried to keep my happiness at bay. My parents are visiting today and I made sure their favourite meal was prepared.
Before I could open the door, the front door opened and Tim walked in,his expression wasn't readable and he looked really tired. I swallowed hard as I realized something. We've been married for three months but it feels like five years.
We got married because of our family's influence and want. While my parents held a tight rope financially, his parents held the pack together as the alpha and Luna.
“You're supposed to be in class.” He said, throwing a boring look my way as I sighed. “My parents are coming in today, I told you, remember?” My voice was shaky as I tried not to show him how his nonchalant attitude was affecting me.
“You didn't return last night.” I added in a whisper and finally he turned to look at me. “Oh shit.” I muttered under my breath. He was drunk.
“Go to class dear wife and stay the hell out of my business, besides my parents will be arriving shortly, they've got something to tell you.” I frowned and gave him a long stare.
“What is it?” He asked, already going up the stairs. “It cannot be discussed over the phone?” I asked and he scoffed.
“This is also my house and my parents are welcome here too.” I bit down on my lips as I watched him walk upstairs till I could no longer see him. Suddenly,I felt a sharp pain in my chest, my heart constricted as I held a chair for support.
“What's going on?” I whispered to myself.
Thirty minutes later, as I stood before the mirror, getting ready to go to class,a knock resounded through my door. “Come in.” I said gently, applying my gloss on my lips as a maid walked in. She looked tense and her eyes weren't fixed on me.
“What's wrong?” I asked and she sighed.
“The Alpha is here with Luna.” she said and I smiled. “Alright I'll be down shortly, make them comfortable and also let my husband know his parents are here.” she nodded and walked out but I could tell there was more to her attitude but I didn't pay much attention to it.
As I walked down the stairs,I heard voices in hushed tones, talking but it stopped immediately I walked into the living room.
“There you are.” Luna Ophelia said, coming to wrap me in her arms as I melted into her arms. Tim stood by the side watching as I interacted with his mother. Alpha Paul, his father embraced me too before they led me to a seat.
“I need you to stay calm and listen to what we are going to tell you right now.” Ophelia said and immediately,I felt that pain again, this time sharper.
“You're making me worried, what is going on?” I asked and they looked at each other before Paul sighed. “I think you should tell her.” He said, turning away to face the wall.
“Your parents were involved in an accident.” Luna Ophelia finally said and for a moment,I couldn't comprehend what she said but soon,it began to sink in.
“Wait,” I said, standing up immediately. “What do you mean? And shouldn't you be at the hospital with them if they were involved in an accident?” I asked,my voice going a pitch higher.
“Why are you__” I stopped talking as I turned to look at Tim.
“You knew, didn't you?” I asked,my voice barely audible. I was holding the tears in, my throat was tightly clogged and my chest constricted tightly.
“Yes, I knew about it but it's only right if the alpha and Luna deliver the news to you, they were their best friends and closest allies.” My knees gave in and I fell to the floor, my body shaking violently as I clutched my dress.
“They're dead, we're sorry.” Ophelia said, bending to my level as she wrapped me in a hug. I bawled,my nose kept running and the tears wouldn't stop either. I don't know how long I sat on the floor but I know I was there for more than thirty minutes.
By the time I got myself,I realized I was alone, sitting on the floor. I picked myself up and walked over to the dining where they were seated now. In front of them sat big bowls of food and I couldn't help but furrow my brows. “What's happening?” I asked.
“Aren't we supposed to be mourning?” I asked again,my chest constricting into a painful knot. “Of course we are, eating doesn't mean we aren't mourning.” Paul said and I couldn't believe we called him alpha.
“You should join us.” Tim said and that was the height of it all. I froze and stared at him for minutes before I scoffed.
“Sorry but no, my parents just died and I'm not gonna pretend like I'm fine and begin to dine with you all,I won't!” I stormed up the stairs and quickly dressed up. I needed to know which morgue they were taken to,I needed to see them just one last time.
I rushed down the stairs and began to hear hushed tones, like they were discussing something private.
“What's going on?” I asked and immediately they stopped talking. Ophelia pushed up that pretentious smile,it didn't get to her eyes.
“Where are you going?” Tim asked and I laughed dryly. “Like you care.” I whispered. “Which morgue were they taken to?” I asked. Paul and Ophelia looked at each other like they were holding a huge secret.
“What is it?” I asked.
“They're not in a morgue.” Ophelia said, walking up to me as she pulled me into her arms. “Their car went ablaze.”
She dropped the bombshell and my heart immediately stopped beating.
MARTEN HOLLAND“She fainted.”Jerry’s voice cut through the silence as he crouched beside the unconscious woman, studying her like she was some strange object dropped into our territory. I stood a few steps away, my arms folded, my gaze fixed on her still body. Something about her presence didn’t sit right with me, and I had learned long ago never to ignore instincts like that.“What do you think happened?” Jerry continued, glancing up at me briefly before returning his attention to her. “And look at her… she doesn’t look like she’s from around here. She’s definitely from another pack. Or maybe not even a pack at all.”Tom moved closer, crouching on her other side, his eyes scanning her carefully as if he could pull answers out of her skin. “Since she was running before she collapsed here,” he said thoughtfully, “there are only a few possibilities. She was either attacked or robbed. Maybe she escaped something.”I let out a quiet scoff, and both of them paused immediately, their atte

LEAH DECKER“Sit down Leah, we need to discuss whatever the attorneys have to say.” Paul spoke first and Ophelia nodded. It seemed as if I'd been thrown into a movie I didn't remember auditioning for. “What is there to talk about besides these attorneys are here for me and not everyone so why are you all here?” I asked, my anger boiling over the rim of my glass. “Leah Decker, your parents would want you to be calm and listen to what we have to say.” I scoffed and turned to look at her. “You have no right to tell me what my parents would have loved, absolutely no right!” “Fine, I'll carry on with the reading.” The female attorney said and opened her bag. She brought out three legal files and passed each to me, Paul and Ophelia.“What's this about?” I asked.I opened the file and the first document was staring right back at me with a ridiculous make believe stamp that looked like my father's official stamp.“This can't be right,I'm eighteen and old enough to manage their assets, prop
LEAH DECKER I opened my eyes to see the walls of my room and several eyes staring down at me. I sat up immediately and that forced a painful jab to my head. “What happened?” I asked as I tried to massage my head to relieve the pain.“You fainted.” Ophelia replied and that's when it started coming back to me. The news of my parents death, the fact that I'll never get to see them one last time, their bodies burnt to ashes. “Oh…no,no,no. ““You need to calm down Leah, you __” Ophelia was saying but she kept quiet immediately she saw me getting out of bed. “No,I need to see the car,I need to see something. I need to go home..”“You're home, you're married and Tim will take care of you, you shouldn't be worried. We'll stay by your side.” Just then,a maid walked in and bowed slightly.“The attorney is here.” She said and I raised my head so fast, I almost fell back on the bed. “What attorney? I don't understand.” “Oh, yeah, your parents' attorneys.” Paul replied this time and that's when I
