Hayden's POV

Every muscle in my body stiffened as Stephen placed his lips on mine. I was too stunned to speak, to move. Stephen, however, didn't stop there. He grabbed my chin and kissed me deeper, prying my mouth with his and that was when I lost it.

Disgust surged through me and I pushed him away from me instantly, recoiling from whatever the fuck just happened. I wiped my lips once but that couldn't wipe away the disgust I felt toward Stephen right now. I almost gagged as I wiped my lips again and again until they started to hurt.

I looked up at him and he looked so pleased with a grin on his lips.

“You fucker!” I growled as I lunged at him, aiming to punch that smirk from his face but he ducked so quickly. “Why the fuck would you do that? You faggot!” I yelled in anger and he snorted with an amused expression on his face.

I was homophobic. Purely homophobic. It was stupid to see two people of the same fucking gender do insane things to each other. Why would a fucking guy like me be interested in a fellow man?

But Stephen was gay? Because he just kissed me showed that it wasn't the first time he has ever done this. And he didn't even look disgusted, he was definitely having fun.

“Faggot? Relax now, stepbrother, you wanted a kiss and I gave you a fucking kiss. Why are you so mad?” Stephen muttered, his tone mocking as he chuckled softly, even going as far as licking his lips.

“You're disgusting. You're the most disgusting human I've ever met. You fucking fag. Do not ever come near me again. Jesus, what in the fucking world?” I spat in disgust, wiping my lips again and again but it didn't get rid of the disgusting feeling on my lips.

I turned away from him, not even wanting to see his disgusting face again, but I suddenly felt him standing behind me, and I flinched so hard. I stumbled backward, and as soon as my back hit the wall, he placed his hands on either side of my head, pinning me to the wall again.

“Fucker—” I grunted in anger as I tried to push him off me. “Get your disgusting self away from me!” I yelled but he simply leaned down until our lips were inches from each other again.

“Guess everyone has a weakness after all and I just found yours. I will use it to my advantage, Hayden. And if you ever take anything that belongs to me again, I'll fucking kiss you till you drop. Understood?” He whispered softly and my eyes widened because I knew he wasn't joking

He leaned closer and was about to kiss me again when I pushed him off me and he laughed like he was having so much fun. In anger, I lunged at him and pushed him to the ground. I punched him hard enough that even my knuckles cracked but before I could land another punch, the door opened.

Shit.

“What is going on here?” The dean asked in anger and Stephen started to cough in pain while I got off him immediately.

“He suddenly attacked me when all I did was sit silently,” Stephen complained, holding his nose in pain, and I opened my mouth to defend myself, but my words got stuck in my throat.

What could I say? I did rile him up. I did punch him again.

“That's it.” The dean muttered as he glared at me. “Stephen, you're pardoned. Hayden will stay in detention till the school is over.” He ordered and my jaw dropped in confusion. How could he do this?

“But, Dean—”

“Don't make me increase your punishment, Hayden. Stay here and reflect on your behavior.” He said and I stayed quiet immediately. Stephen shot me a victorious smile and blew me a kiss before leaving with the dean.

Anger coursed through me as the door locked tightly in front of me, and I tried taking deep breaths, but it wasn't working. Suddenly, I grabbed a chair and slammed it against the door in anger. Then I threw another chair. I flipped tables upside down and let out groans of frustration.

By the time I was done throwing a tantrum, I looked around at the mess I had made and realized that I had probably overreacted. So one by one, I started to arrange everything back to the way it should have been. By the time I was done, the school bell rang, indicating that school was over for the day.

Coach was the one who came to get me out and I could see the disappointment in his face when I walked out with him.

“You're supposed to be the future of our club. You can't go around picking fights with your rival. You missed practice today, but you'll make up for it tomorrow morning. Before you go, see the dean in his office.” He ordered, shot me a disapproving look, then walked away.

I let out a sigh and made my way to the dean's office but the moment I pushed his door open, my eyes widened at the figure sitting in front of him.

Mom.

“The brat is finally out.” The dean muttered in disapproval and I walked in to see Stephen sitting beside Mom while she looked extremely displeased.

“Can you please give us a moment?” Mother said to him and he nodded as she turned to me with a glare. “Both of you, outside. Now.”

Stephen followed her outside while I followed behind them, and as the door slammed shut, she let out a sigh of defeat.

“You both will be the death of me. I'm sure. Why is it so hard for you both to get along? You're not biological brothers, yes I know, but I promised your mother I'd treat you like my own child. You want me to feel like a liar to my late best friend and husband? What is wrong with you?” She asked in frustration and I felt horrible, my eyes finding my shoes.

She wasn't my mom. I was the child of her best friend but when they died, her last words were for Mom to take me as her child. Which Mom did without thinking twice. I owed her my life.

“I'm sorry, Mom—”

“Sorry doesn't fix anything baby, your actions do. You have to promise me that you'll change. I can't keep coming here every day because of you two! You're not kids!”

“We'll get along from now on, Mom, we promise,” Stephen said, and I nodded even though I knew it was just a front. Anything to make her happy.

“I have a solution. And I'm sure you both will love it. It's a simple offer and if you love me, you'll listen to my words. Ready to hear it?” She asked gently and I nodded, as long as it didn't involve me getting close with this asshole.

“How about you both live together from now on?” She asked with a nervous smile and it felt like she had just dropped a bomb into my head.

“What?” We exclaimed together, glaring at each other in the process and she sighed, taking both our hands in hers.

“Think about it. If you both stay in the same dorm, it would help you both understand each other even better, and then you both can be at peace with each other. Right?” She asked with a hopeful expression and Stephen immediately shook his head, casting me a hateful glance.

“No. Hell no. Fuck no. I'd rather eat sand than live in the same dorm with this asshole.”

LILIAN’S POV Waiting outside the economics building is more boring than I expected. The hallway is crowded with students pacing, flipping through notes, or whispering last-minute formulas like prayers. A few of them are even muttering to themselves. Honestly, it’s kind of terrifying. Exams turn perfectly normal people into lunatics. I lean back against the wall near the entrance, scrolling lazily through my phone while I wait for Hayden to finish. The exam started almost an hour ago, which means there’s still plenty of time before anyone comes out. But I told him I’d wait. So here I am. A couple of girls nearby are complaining loudly about how hard the exam was last year. “Professor Dalton always asks trick questions,” one of them says dramatically. The other groans. “I’m going to fail.” I roll my eyes and slip my phone back into my pocket. Hayden won’t fail, not after the insane amount of studying he did with Stephen. The thought makes me smile a little. I’ve never seen

HAYDEN’S POV:The next morning is awkward, painfully awkward.I wake up later than usual, groggy from barely sleeping and with the memory of last night replaying in my head like an annoying song I can’t turn off.Stephen is leaning closer. His eyes dropped to my mouth and the tension in the air and me bolting like a complete idiot.I rub a hand over my face and groan into the pillow.“Fantastic,” I mutter to myself. “Exam day and I’m losing my mind.”After a quick shower, I drag myself out of my room and into the living room. Stephen is already there.Of course he is.He’s sitting on the couch with a mug of coffee in one hand and a book open in the other, looking like the picture of calm, controlled focus. Like last night never happened. My stomach immediately knots. For a second I considered retreating into my room and pretending I didn’t exist but it was too late.Stephen looks up and our eyes meet and the silence that follows is so thick it feels like walking into a wall.“Morning,

HAYDEN’S POVIf someone told me yesterday that Stephen and I would spend twelve straight hours studying together without killing each other, I would’ve laughed in their face.Yet here we are.Day one of preparation starts with him ripping apart my entire understanding of economics.“Wrong,” Stephen says flatly.I glare at the paper between us. “You didn’t even look at it.”“I don’t need to.” He taps the notebook with his pen. “Your formula is already incorrect.”I stare at him. “You’re unbelievable.”“And you’re skipping steps…..again.”I groan loudly and drop my head back against the couch. “You’re enjoying this, aren’t you?”Stephen doesn’t even bother pretending. “A little.” Of course he is.The living room floor is covered in books now. My books, his books, printed lecture notes, and empty coffee cups. We’ve basically turned the dorm into a war zone of economics.Stephen sits across from me at the table, perfectly composed as usual. His sleeves are rolled up and his hair is slight

STEPHEN’S POV:Hayden doesn’t come out of his room all day. I noticed it around noon.Usually, even when we’re fighting, he eventually wanders into the kitchen for food or coffee or whatever junk he lives on. Today? Nothing. No music blasting through the walls, no sarcastic comments when I walk past his door, no sound at all. It’s… strange.I sit at the small table in the living area with my laptop open, pretending to focus on the research paper due next week. The screen is filled with graphs and notes, but I’ve been staring at the same paragraph for ten minutes. My eyes flick toward Hayden’s closed door. It was still quiet.“Good,” I tell myself.Let him suffer. He is the one who refused help.I lean back in my chair and try to focus again—the words on the screen blur together. Two days. If he fails that retake, he’s expelled.I rubbed my temple while I reminded myself that it was not my problem, except Mom made it my problem and she’s definitely going to ask how studying went.I exh

STEPHEN’S POVThe moment Mom’s assistant texted me “Your mother needs to see you immediately,” I knew something was wrong.Mom doesn’t summon people just like that and she definitely doesn’t interrupt my day unless it’s serious.I step into her office twenty minutes later, loosening the tie around my neck. The place looks exactly like it always does, immaculate, intimidating, and ridiculously expensive.Floor-to-ceiling windows overlook half the city, sunlight reflecting off the glass buildings outside.Mom is standing near her desk, flipping through a folder.Hayden is sitting on the couch and that alone is enough to ruin my mood.My eyes narrow slightly. “What’s he doing here?”Hayden glances up lazily from his phone, sprawled across the couch like he owns the place. “Nice to see you too, brother.”I ignore him and look at Mom. “You said it was urgent.”“It is.” Her tone leaves no room for argument. She closes the folder and walks toward us, heels clicking against the floor.Hayden s

HAYDEN’S POV:The dean’s office smells like polished wood, coffee, and the faint scent of paperwork that’s been sitting in folders for too long. It’s the kind of place where people come to hear life-changing decisions, which is exactly why my stomach feels like it’s slowly tying itself into knots.I sit in the chair across from Dean Adler’s desk, leaning back even though every muscle in my body is tight. My arms are crossed, jaw clenched, eyes fixed on the framed degrees hanging on the wall behind him.Ranging from Harvard, Stanford, and Columbia.Yeah, this guy takes academics seriously.Dean Adler flips through a file in front of him, his glasses perched low on his nose. The quiet sound of papers turning feels louder than it should. Finally, he looks up. “Mr. Cross,” he says calmly.I force myself to meet his gaze.“Yes, sir.”He taps the file lightly. “You’re aware of the accusation made against you?”My jaw tightens. “Yes.”“And?”“And it’s not true.”He watches me for a moment, l
