ROSALINE

"Rose"

I looked up from the file I was holding to see Henry walk in. he was part of the head doctors of this hospital and a friend. I kept him as a friend because I knew he liked me more than one.

I knew better than to let him in. being born into the mafia had a lot of consequences for me. I couldn't have close friends, just superficial ones that won't actually care if I was missing.

It was better that way.

"How's the patient?" I asked him. He shrugged, "He woke up after the surgery and began to ask if I was his boyfriend." I chuckled, "That's amusing."

He scoffed and went to sit on the chair in front of me.

"Are you ready to go on a coffee date with me now?" he asked with a pout. To be honest, he looked so cute and I had a little crush on him. His dirty blonde hair was always tidy and matched his dark green eyes. Not to mention how tall he was and he was also a gentleman.

"I'm a very busy person, Henry," I said to him. He blew a sigh, "Oh come on, Rose. Should I kneel?"

"Don't be ridiculous," I rolled my eyes.

I'm getting married, you might as well give up now, Henry.

He was about to say something when his beeper beeped letting him know he was needed. He sighed and I chuckled as I watched him leave.

"I'm sorry," I mumbled and ran my hand through my hair.

This bridal shop was insane.

They made beautiful dresses. I would have chosen one but my husband-to-be hand already selected one.

It wasn't my style but it was still beautiful. I was dressed in a beautiful ball gown corset wedding dress that had real diamonds decorating my bust and waist. The skirt was so puffy and big with so much glittering lace.

"You look so beautiful, Ms. Garcia," one of the saleswomen said. I was still staring at my reflection, "Thank you."

"You look like a princess," Lisa walked up to me and I smiled at her. I was thankful that Mr. Gusev allowed me to make her my bridesmaid. "This is not my style," I told her and she laughed. "But it fits you," she said and I nodded.

Everything matched my skin tone. I wasn't completely white because my mother was an African American so I was a few a shades darker but still light skinned like Blaze. I was glad I wasn't born with very kinky hair like my mom's or I would be living a very stressful life.

"It's too much for me. Who the hell puts diamonds on their wedding dress?" I asked as I turned around to see the back view.

"The kardasians," Lisa replied and I scoffed making her laugh. "Don't let me even talk about them," I huffed and she giggled.

"But your fiancé has a nice taste," she said to me. "More like an expensive taste," I said and signaled for the saleswomen to help me get out of this dress.

"That's true," she said and I sighed.

I wasn't expensive. I liked normalcy.

"We still need to go shopping for clothes," Lisa reminded me and I huffed. I hated this so much. This was why I loved my job, I got to wear scrubs all through the day.

"And we need to pick up your engagement ring too," she added making me glare at her as I changed into my jeans and vintage shirt.

They handed the package dress and heels to me and I thanked them before following Lisa out of the building. I was glad Lisa agreed to follow me. If not, I would have fainted out of frustration.

The chauffeur opened the door for us and we thanked him as we got in. "So we're heading to Tiffany's to pick up your ring. I hope it's a giant diamond ring!" Lisa exclaimed making me scrunch my nose in disbelief.

Why would someone want to wear a giant ring on their finger?

Why would I want to do that? Do I look like lady gaga?

By the end of the day, I went home with a 1.55 carats ring on my finger, an expensive wedding dress set and bags of new clothes.

Now, I was tired and hungry.

Lisa had gone home after helping me arrange my things but I couldn't help but stare at the wedding dress in my wardrobe.

Of course, I wanted to get married and have kids but I wasn't ready. I just started working two years ago. The only achievement I have made was getting my dream car which was a Mercedes Benz C-class.

I still wanted to make enough money before I decided to settle down.

I wanted to get married to the man of my dreams, not someone I have never seen before.

What if he was balding?

I shivered in disgust.

"I'll head over to that place to pack her clothes," I mumbled as I stripped out of my clothes and made my way to my bed.

When I get married, will still be allowed to keep my job?

Who am I kidding? I'm relocating for crying out loud. At least I'll be able to look after my mother.

I wished she could just wake up from her deep slumber. It's been more than ten years already. I've suffered enough.

But I knew why she slipped into coma and never woke up. My dad was too dumb to notice that it was Catherina that had been slowly poisoning my mother. My oblivious mother would get heart burns, heartaches, she'd get skin rashes but everyone thought it was just allergies.

That night that my father's rival broke into our home was just a coincidence. They decided to shoot my mother so as to bring my father down. They even beat the shit out of my brother and I.

It was a miracle that the bullet missed her heart. But she was already on the path to death before then, so her body wasn't able to recover.

Two years later, my father came home with my mother's 'best friend' as his new wife.

He never smiled, he didn't even notice anything in his surroundings anymore. Even when his so-called wife would pinch my skin with a hot knife for not washing her clothes when we had tons of maids.

I still loved him though. He was the best dad I could ask for before shit went down.

I don't know what happened but I slipped into unconsciousness while thinking about my life.
