Chapter 4 Aviana
Aviana’s heart thumped faster faster than she could catch her breath The redhead had been here just a minute ago. Where the hell did he go? How could he even move? She wondered, looking around in confusion. No sign of him. This didn't make any sense… She proceeded towards her bedroom, her gun in hand now. He couldn't have gone far. She came back to the living room and then made her way to the backdoor where she found that her backdoor was slightly ajar. It was then she noticed the trail of blood leading to the door. Something was up and she didn't like what her mind was telling her. Knowing he couldn't have gotten far, she marched towards the door and carefully opened it, afraid that he might be lurking around somewhere or worse, someone had come to get him or something and he was lurking somewhere ready to kill her. There was no way he'd be able to walk out of here with his leg and hands injured. She scanned the yard, her senses on high alert. The night air seemed to have frozen in place, killing every night creature in sight. The silence was deafening and Aviana didn't like it. The last time the night sky was like that, she'd been called by the chief and her case has been taken away from her. She felt like she was being watched but at the same time, she didn't sense anyone’s presence. Her eyes landed on the staircase She followed the smell of blood, her senses on high alert as she tried to find the redhead, she moved now, following the trail of blood until it stopped somewhere close to the road. It was like he'd disappeared. Aviana wasn't about to give up though, she drove back to the bar but couldn't find the redhead. “Shit! Shit!” She cursed, hitting her steering wheel over and over again, Ignoring the pain. Her one chance to get direct Intel on the Mafia was gone, not just that, she'd probably been responsible for shooting her colleague; detective Salone. How had things gone so bad within the span of a fucking day?! Everything was going terribly for her but she wasn't about to give up. Not when she'd come this far. She'd confessed what had happened to the chief tomorrow and whatever happens to career, happens but for now, she had to think. *** Aviana woke up to the sound of her ringing alarm. She begrudgingly grabbed her phone from the dresser and turned it off. She'd only slept for two hours or less. She had no idea. She'd been up all night trying to piece together everything that had happened last night. She'd still not found a single trace of the redhead and wondered how he'd escaped She'd even asked Dory about it in the most single way she could manage and Dory had told her a man with injuries like that couldn't walk. Aviana threw the bed cover off her and jumped to shower. She was at the precinct within an hour. As soon as she passed through the glass door, the first person she came face to face with was Chief Donovan. Detective Douglas, see me in my office His stomach twisted into knots. She knew exactly what he was going to do, he was going to accuse her of shooting at Detective Salone and fire her on the spot. She was prepared, Hell, maybe being a detective has held her back enough. It was time she went solo. With her coffee ín hand, she followed the chief through the old marble covered hallway into his office. “Have a seat, Miss Grey,” Aviana nodded, ignoring the knot getting tighter and tighter in her stomach. She hesitated just not before pulling out an old looking chair from under the mahogany desk and sitting down. Aviana stared at the bald spot on his head as she waited for the inevitable. “Do you know why you are in my office today?” “No, sorry,” She answered with a straight face that it was hard to tell what she was thinking. “Well, Salone was at a bar last night and was shot… he's currently in the hospital, he's going to be alright but it's going to take a bit of time for him to recover. I want you to take his case… only till he's back on his feet in three months that is…if you haven't been able to bring results by then, you are off the job” Aviana blinked. “Y…you are giving me the case?’ She'd not been expecting that at all. “Indeed. Here is your case file. You worked on it before… you can start now…” He handed Aviana the file. Did he not know about the shoot out? Aviana wondered briefly. It had been at the Boulevard bar, there was no way Salone hadn't seen her, right? Then again, if she hadn't seen him, then maybe he didn't notice her, she was after all mostly hiding behind a dumpster. A smile crept onto her face and she stood up abruptly. “I won't let you down, sir,” The Chief responded by rolling his eyes. “Get on with it then,” Aviana nodded. “Of course,” Without wasting a second more, she made her way out of the detective's office. “Why are you smiling?” Timothy asked. “Because, Tim, I got the case. “ Aviana grinned wide It was the first time she's seen smile before “I guess we get ready for the case, huh?” Timothy asked and Aviana nodded. “Damn straight!” It was about five hours later when Aviana was arranging her case file when she find something on the internet: . An opening for a job. At first, it didn't look like much, until she discovered who the listing was from. It was from the Iron Vine Mafia. She recognized them. “Everything okay? Timothy asked,” “I just found something. The iron vine are looking for an accountant,” “What? How do you know that?” Timothy who'd been at the window going through the evidence asked, Aviana turned her computer to face him. “I've been following them on the dark web for years. This is the first time I've seen an opening. This is the perfect way to infiltrate,” Aviana pointed, her excitement palpable. “We gotta let the chief know,” “Way ahead of you,” Aviana said as she rose… Finally, her chance had come. It was time to take down the Iron vine and find her mother's killer and destroy everything they stood for.AnnaAfter breakfast, I sneaked out of the mansion, making sure I wasn't followed.I had to get my phone fixed and then find Tim.I needed to know he was fine and I needed to know what he found out, although I had a feeling I already knew.“Thank you so much,” I said to the technician who'd just helped me set up my new phone. He was so sweet and nice, explaining the steps to me with patience.“You're welcome,” he smiled with his teeth. I turned about to call Tim when I heard.“Wait,”I turned back to him.“Yes?” I asked.“I was just wondering if I could get your number, to call you or something sometime.” He said, his cheeks turning bright red.“That's sweet. But no thank you. You don't want to be with me, trust me,"I smiled and with that, I left.I found a cafe nearby and found a seat. The pastries immediately assaulted my nose in a good way but I knew there was no way in hell I could fit any more food into my stomach after the ktg breakfast Estonia had forced on me.His phone rang
AnnaI should be dead.I opened my eyes to find myself several feet away from the car or what remained of it.My heart immediately shattered. He was dead. The driver. The poor man.Tears slipped down my eyes, all I could feel was anger, pain.I had no idea who he was but I felt the urge to save me.Seemed I could never save anyone and that notion torw me apart.“Are you okay?” A familiar voice asked behind me.It was Levi.I glanced at him.“Why didn't you save him too?” I glared at him, my heart hammering. He blinked at me in confusion.“The man, the driver. You let him die, didn't you, you monster!”I seethed, glaring up at him. I hated how calm he looked. He was always calm. These monsters were all the same. They cared little for human life.He sighed.“Come on, I am taking you back to the mansion, we'll get you a doctor to help with your wounds.I had not noticed any wound or pain in my body until he'd spoken.Every part of my body felt like it had been hit by a truck. AnnaI stared at Sabrina as she walked ahead of me towards the plane. She really was a beautiful woman.A beautiful, deadly woman. One that was capable of things my mind could only imagine…I have now realized just how reckless I was coming here. But at the same time, I was glad I did. I had another piece of the puzzle now. I was getting closer. It had taken an unexpected turn of events, but I was glad.I had thought of many things that the iron vine could possibly be involved with before infiltrating.I believed they were some kind of occult group, or they harvested organs and sold them, but Werewolves?I had to let Tim know about this.I can't believe he was right. A flight attendant stood at the door of the plane, a huge smile on her face.“Welcome, Miss Sabrina…”“Save it,” Sabrina snapped at the flight attendant, walking past her and almost slamming into her.I stared at the flight attendant, wondering if she was even human. She worked for Duncan, so the possibility of her bei
DuncanI stared at the door long after she slammed it shut, the sound still echoing in my chest. She was angry, hurt and upset and I understood.I had wanted to hide this part of me for as long as I could from her but these bastards. When I get my hands on them…The door opened and Lucas walked back inside.“What?” I asked.“One of the men survived. He's on his way here.”“Really? How?” I asked“He stayed behind to check out something,”“Did he find anything?” “We'll find out once he gets here,”Lucas said.Sabrina walked in just then.“What did you find?” I turned to her.“Nothing. Only an abandoned warehouse but I doubt was their main hideout. Or if it was, then they are gone,”“No scent or trails?”“None, it was like the place was scrubbed clean.”“You think they have a witch with them?” I asked. Only witches could mask the scent of a werewolf. “Possibly. There were chains in the warehouse just like Anna said,”“Maybe they really just wanted money,”I stroked my chin. “Maybe,’ bu
Anna“So, you don't remember where you were taken to?”Duncan asked. He'd been interrogating me for the last twenty minutes. “No, I was blindfolded for most of it and the time I wasn't, I was inside a room with heavy chains…”It was then it hit me.Chains… Were they the same? Were they werewolves too.“They were definitely werewolves, some kind of enemy.”“You think it's them?” Lucas asked.“No, it can't be. It has to be some other group.“Do you reckon it's Azeal?” Lucas asked My stomach flipped.“Maybe,” he glanced at me.“Did they use their names around you?” He questioned.I shook my head. “I told you, I was mostly sedated. All they said they wanted was money. They never mention anything else,”“That makes no sense,” He shook his head.Duncan nodded.“Alright, Lucas, you will take Anna home back to the mansion, I'll stay here…”“I'm not leaving you here by yourself.” Lucas interjected.“Well, someone has to go home with her and you're my best bet.”“Sabrina will take her,”Lucas
AnnaAs soon as Duncan left the room, I lowered myself on the floor, still reeling from shock. This couldn't be real yet I knew it couldn't be fake. I had seen it myself, he'd turned into a beast in front of my very eyes.It all made sense now.The super strength, super speed. The odd way the men in the mansion spoke when I was around and the constant use of the word “human,”This was what my mother was involved with?Oh my God. This was what Alice was talking about. I had looked at like she was crazy but here it all was unraveling before my eyes.It all made sense now…I rose from the ground and began to pace, trying to process what I had seen a few hours ago, trying to declutter my mind. The door suddenly opened and I jumped out of shock only to find Lucas standing at the door, staring at me with a soft look in his eyes.“Lucas…” I said, my eyes wide.“Anna… you okay?” he asked, staring at me with awkward concern.“No,” I shook my head. I wasn't okay. My reality and my perception
DuncanI had never seen Anna look at me with so much hate and confusion before.Okay, that might not have been true but it had been a long time since she stared at me like some type of vermin.“Anna…” “I need space, I need space to process this…Please leave,” she said, staring at me with fear.An emotion that I had barely seen in her before.“Okay,” I nodded, knowing there was nothing I could do.“I'll put on some clothes and leave.” I said and made my way back to my room.I put on sweatpants and a T-shirt before leaving the room.Anna had not left her position.I lingered at the door for a second, my hand on the knob, looking back at her.She was still pressed against the wall, her arms wrapped around herself like she was holding herself together.“Anna…” I tried again But she shook her head sharply, squeezing her eyes shut like she couldn't even bear to look at me.The silent rejection hit harder than any bullet ever could. I stepped out, letting the door click softly behind me.
AnnaDuncan’s lips fell on mine, kissing me hard and passionately like he had been thirsting and I was water.“I love you so much,” he groaned.“I thought I lost you,” I said, holding him tight as I kissed him roughly.“Never,”I broke the kiss, looking up at him. I couldn't believe it was him.“It's really you, you're alive. H…how? How is this possible?” I asked, touching his face.“It's a miracle,” he breathed, his filled with different emotions. Emotions that were almost never there.I shook my head, unable to believe it.“I saw you die, Duncan. How are you alive?”I asked more sternly.I searched his face and realized there something was missing. There were no bullet wounds. None at all.“Your bullet wounds, they are gone. How?” I asked with wide eyes.Something wasn't right here.“Anna, can we just have this moment? I almost lost you…” he pleaded but I wasn't about to gloss over the fact that the man I had seen die was here, alive and without a single scar of his wound.“Well, I
