Chapter 5 Aviana

Aviana Grey adjusted the hem of her fitted blazer, her pulse steady despite the weight of the moment.

The grand estate of the Iron vine towered over her like an imposing force weighing down on her confidence, showing just a little of what was to come as soon as she stepped inside the gate or the mansion.

She stepped forward, her heels clicking against the pavement, exuding the confidence of a woman who belonged. Infiltrating the most feared mafia family on the East Coast required more than just a flawless résumé—it demanded a mask, and Aviana had perfected hers.

The guard on the left stopped just as she was about to enter through the gates.

“Name?*

“Anna reed, I'm here for the interview. Lucas is expecting me,” she said smoothly, handing over a forged ID.

The man inspected it before nodding towards the intercom

A brief exchange occurred between him and someone on the other side before the huge black gate opened.

As soon as she stepped into the eststez she felt the impending danger and doom if this didn't go well

The iron Vine were ruthless. They'd kill torture and traffic anyone they deemed as a threat. Her tracks were completely covered and everything about her new identity has been perfected to a T but she couldn't help but sense the impending danger that surrounded and awaited her.

Without a seconds more hesitation, she followed a guard to the entrance of the biggest building.

The first thing she noticed when she entered was a huge wolf head in front

She rolled her eyes, convinced that the Boss of the iron vine was some kind of Alpha bro.

She was already picking up on things that she could use in her favor against him.

Her mother used to say that You can always tell a lot by a man by the shoe they wear and their house decor.

.she already knew one thing about him.

He was egoistical which wasn't much information considering most Mafia lords were but it was an important part of his personality that she could use against him.

She followed the guard into the mansion, noting the opulence of the interior.

It was largely decorated with old looking paintings and artifacts.

More ceramic and intricate wolf head sculptures decorated the foyer.

They passed through a double French door on the right and straight into another double French door by the left about five feet away from the first door.

“Wait here,” the guard said with a gruff voice and then he opened the door and closed it in her office.

Aviana took that time to look around for cameras. She found that there were three in the foyer. One close to the entrance another at entrance of the door first double French door and one staring directly at her.

They were nothing if not meticulous.

The door opened and the guard and Curo, the man that she'd helped out in the shootout walked out.

His gaze narrowed when he saw her.

“You, I know you. You saved my life ” Curo’s eyes widened.

Aviana smiled politely.

She'd been expecting to see him but not this soon.

“I…I wouldn't say that. It was just reflex. Besides you saved my life. I would be dead now by my own hands if it wasn't for you,”

Curo chuckled.

“I can't take the credit for that one but I owe you one,”

He smiled and Aviana immediately noticed a gold tooth among his pristine white teeth.

Aviana smiled shyly. A tactic she'd employed years ago to fool people into thinking she was easy prey.

“Anyway, come on in, The boss will see you right now,” he said and she nodded.

.

“I hope you get it,” he whispered as he opened the French door for her to enter.

Aviana nodded, smoothing the nonexistent wrinkles on her blazer as she followed Curo inside. The moment she stepped through the door, a wave of authority hit her like a physical force. The familiar scent and attraction she'd felt last night after the shoot out was back again.

The office was vast, with dark mahogany walls, floor-to-ceiling bookshelves, and a large desk positioned near the panoramic window that overlooked the estate. Behind it sat Duncan Romano—the infamous boss of the Iron Vine.

She couldn't see his face yet, just a Shadow covering his face but she could tell he was handsome.

He leaned back in his chair, his piercing silver eyes assessing her with a quiet intensity. His presence was commanding, effortlessly exuding danger and power that shook Aviana at her core.

She couldn't explain the feeling, it was intense but she refused to back down.

If she could get this job, she could find her mother's killer and bring down this group once and for all.

Aviana held his gaze, refusing to look away. She couldn’t afford to or he'd see right through her.

“Come closer,” Duncan Said, his deep voice sending a shiver down her spine. He sounded like what thunderbolts sounded like if they were human.

Carefully, Aviana walked towards him, her stomach in shambled knots.

“Anna Reed?” He asked as she approached.

“Y…yes sir,” Aviana answered her fake name, trying to ignore the weird rush in her body she was feeling for this man. She was doing everything in her power to stop herself. She didn't understand this feeling but Duncan did.

He knew exactly what was going on

He turned around and his face came into view, his eyes widening as he took in the most beautiful woman he'd ever seen.

His grip tightened around the edge of his desk, his knuckles whitening as he tried to calm his flaying nerves.

Aviana thought she heard him growl but decided she was hearing things.

Tension clouded the room and for a long while they both just stood staring at each other.

“Mate,” Duncan rumbled, his voice low and possessive as his gaze pierced into her skin.

Aviana blinked ín confusion.

Had he just called her mate? What the hell did that mean?

AnnaAfter breakfast, I sneaked out of the mansion, making sure I wasn't followed.I had to get my phone fixed and then find Tim.I needed to know he was fine and I needed to know what he found out, although I had a feeling I already knew.“Thank you so much,” I said to the technician who'd just helped me set up my new phone. He was so sweet and nice, explaining the steps to me with patience.“You're welcome,” he smiled with his teeth. I turned about to call Tim when I heard.“Wait,”I turned back to him.“Yes?” I asked.“I was just wondering if I could get your number, to call you or something sometime.” He said, his cheeks turning bright red.“That's sweet. But no thank you. You don't want to be with me, trust me,"I smiled and with that, I left.I found a cafe nearby and found a seat. The pastries immediately assaulted my nose in a good way but I knew there was no way in hell I could fit any more food into my stomach after the ktg breakfast Estonia had forced on me.His phone rang

AnnaI should be dead.I opened my eyes to find myself several feet away from the car or what remained of it.My heart immediately shattered. He was dead. The driver. The poor man.Tears slipped down my eyes, all I could feel was anger, pain.I had no idea who he was but I felt the urge to save me.Seemed I could never save anyone and that notion torw me apart.“Are you okay?” A familiar voice asked behind me.It was Levi.I glanced at him.“Why didn't you save him too?” I glared at him, my heart hammering. He blinked at me in confusion.“The man, the driver. You let him die, didn't you, you monster!”I seethed, glaring up at him. I hated how calm he looked. He was always calm. These monsters were all the same. They cared little for human life.He sighed.“Come on, I am taking you back to the mansion, we'll get you a doctor to help with your wounds.I had not noticed any wound or pain in my body until he'd spoken.Every part of my body felt like it had been hit by a truck. AnnaI stared at Sabrina as she walked ahead of me towards the plane. She really was a beautiful woman.A beautiful, deadly woman. One that was capable of things my mind could only imagine…I have now realized just how reckless I was coming here. But at the same time, I was glad I did. I had another piece of the puzzle now. I was getting closer. It had taken an unexpected turn of events, but I was glad.I had thought of many things that the iron vine could possibly be involved with before infiltrating.I believed they were some kind of occult group, or they harvested organs and sold them, but Werewolves?I had to let Tim know about this.I can't believe he was right. A flight attendant stood at the door of the plane, a huge smile on her face.“Welcome, Miss Sabrina…”“Save it,” Sabrina snapped at the flight attendant, walking past her and almost slamming into her.I stared at the flight attendant, wondering if she was even human. She worked for Duncan, so the possibility of her bei

DuncanI stared at the door long after she slammed it shut, the sound still echoing in my chest. She was angry, hurt and upset and I understood.I had wanted to hide this part of me for as long as I could from her but these bastards. When I get my hands on them…The door opened and Lucas walked back inside.“What?” I asked.“One of the men survived. He's on his way here.”“Really? How?” I asked“He stayed behind to check out something,”“Did he find anything?” “We'll find out once he gets here,”Lucas said.Sabrina walked in just then.“What did you find?” I turned to her.“Nothing. Only an abandoned warehouse but I doubt was their main hideout. Or if it was, then they are gone,”“No scent or trails?”“None, it was like the place was scrubbed clean.”“You think they have a witch with them?” I asked. Only witches could mask the scent of a werewolf. “Possibly. There were chains in the warehouse just like Anna said,”“Maybe they really just wanted money,”I stroked my chin. “Maybe,’ bu

Anna“So, you don't remember where you were taken to?”Duncan asked. He'd been interrogating me for the last twenty minutes. “No, I was blindfolded for most of it and the time I wasn't, I was inside a room with heavy chains…”It was then it hit me.Chains… Were they the same? Were they werewolves too.“They were definitely werewolves, some kind of enemy.”“You think it's them?” Lucas asked.“No, it can't be. It has to be some other group.“Do you reckon it's Azeal?” Lucas asked My stomach flipped.“Maybe,” he glanced at me.“Did they use their names around you?” He questioned.I shook my head. “I told you, I was mostly sedated. All they said they wanted was money. They never mention anything else,”“That makes no sense,” He shook his head.Duncan nodded.“Alright, Lucas, you will take Anna home back to the mansion, I'll stay here…”“I'm not leaving you here by yourself.” Lucas interjected.“Well, someone has to go home with her and you're my best bet.”“Sabrina will take her,”Lucas

AnnaAs soon as Duncan left the room, I lowered myself on the floor, still reeling from shock. This couldn't be real yet I knew it couldn't be fake. I had seen it myself, he'd turned into a beast in front of my very eyes.It all made sense now.The super strength, super speed. The odd way the men in the mansion spoke when I was around and the constant use of the word “human,”This was what my mother was involved with?Oh my God. This was what Alice was talking about. I had looked at like she was crazy but here it all was unraveling before my eyes.It all made sense now…I rose from the ground and began to pace, trying to process what I had seen a few hours ago, trying to declutter my mind. The door suddenly opened and I jumped out of shock only to find Lucas standing at the door, staring at me with a soft look in his eyes.“Lucas…” I said, my eyes wide.“Anna… you okay?” he asked, staring at me with awkward concern.“No,” I shook my head. I wasn't okay. My reality and my perception

DuncanI had never seen Anna look at me with so much hate and confusion before.Okay, that might not have been true but it had been a long time since she stared at me like some type of vermin.“Anna…” “I need space, I need space to process this…Please leave,” she said, staring at me with fear.An emotion that I had barely seen in her before.“Okay,” I nodded, knowing there was nothing I could do.“I'll put on some clothes and leave.” I said and made my way back to my room.I put on sweatpants and a T-shirt before leaving the room.Anna had not left her position.I lingered at the door for a second, my hand on the knob, looking back at her.She was still pressed against the wall, her arms wrapped around herself like she was holding herself together.“Anna…” I tried again But she shook her head sharply, squeezing her eyes shut like she couldn't even bear to look at me.The silent rejection hit harder than any bullet ever could. I stepped out, letting the door click softly behind me.

AnnaDuncan’s lips fell on mine, kissing me hard and passionately like he had been thirsting and I was water.“I love you so much,” he groaned.“I thought I lost you,” I said, holding him tight as I kissed him roughly.“Never,”I broke the kiss, looking up at him. I couldn't believe it was him.“It's really you, you're alive. H…how? How is this possible?” I asked, touching his face.“It's a miracle,” he breathed, his filled with different emotions. Emotions that were almost never there.I shook my head, unable to believe it.“I saw you die, Duncan. How are you alive?”I asked more sternly.I searched his face and realized there something was missing. There were no bullet wounds. None at all.“Your bullet wounds, they are gone. How?” I asked with wide eyes.Something wasn't right here.“Anna, can we just have this moment? I almost lost you…” he pleaded but I wasn't about to gloss over the fact that the man I had seen die was here, alive and without a single scar of his wound.“Well, I
