For the last week I’d been training with Leo any chance I got. Whether it was an hour or more we’d rush to the woods, and we wouldn’t stop until I could barely lift my arms up. Every part of me was sore and ached but I finally felt as though I was able to make use of the strengths I knew I always had.Leo was a terrific coach and training partner, but I despised him the moment he took off his shirt three days ago when our sparring made him all sweaty. I could have sworn he was just doing it to distract me, and at times it was working and when I was alone and could daydream about it, I would! I’d picture just how refined and protruding each muscle was and the way they clenched and moved in sync. He’d also been keeping up with his constant hand kissing each time he walked me home, which was not only messing with these damn butterflies that like to keep flittering around in my stomach, but it was confusing. I did want him… Oh I wanted him a lot! Each time he kissed my hand now, I’d rathe
My ass was almost numb from sitting so still in the chair for so long and I wouldn’t be surprised if mum had no nail left after biting it so nervously. We purposely kept quiet, so we didn’t wake uncle and we anxiously waited for Caleb’s howl or the alarm and for three hours, neither had come. The longer it went on the more worried we became and although neither of us spoke it, I knew we were both thinking the same thing… we were both expecting to hear the alarm. Occasionally we would hear yelps and loud growls and I just hoped over and over those yelps didn’t come from father or Leo.“Mum…. Listen!”. I whispered with alert as I suddenly sat up straight, straining my ears to hear.“What? What was it?” She whispered back nervously.“A howl, I’m sure I heard it!”. “I didn’t hear anything, Raven, are you sure?” “I know I heard it!”. I told her as I stood from my chair and quickly dashed over to the door.“Wait!” Mother stopped me, slamming her hand on the door so I couldn’t open it.“I’
Three days I had been waiting around, only able to rely on updates from father. He had told me every night he came home from the palace that both the alpha and Luna had been spending most of their time at the hospital watching over Leo. He also insisted that right now it as pointless me even visiting seeing as he still hadn’t woken up yet since he was attacked. His injuries were quite severe and deep, and he had been clawed right across his abdomen. He’d live and he’d heal, but it was going to take time for him to recover, especially to the point of him being able to train again, which I knew meant such a big deal to him.It was only last night that father told me that Leo had finally woken up but only for small moments here and there and so, the alpha and Luna had become a bit more lenient with him having visitors today, and that perhaps I could try and see him for myself.I stood looking at my reflection in my bedroom mirror fiddling with my hair. I had on a tidy black blouse and a
I felt an eery chill in the air as I started walking home from the hospital. Even though the sun had been shining all day, it just felt cold, quiet and gloomy. I wrapped my arms around my chest and began quickening my pace as I walked, feeling slightly on edge now that I was out here alone and from Leo’s previous warnings.I suddenly sniffed the air as I could smell a faint smell of fresh smoke wafting along the path. As I looked in the distance, I could see an orange glow covered in thick, black smoke. My heart lurched and I stomped quickly around the corner. Just as I passed the houses in view, there ahead, I could see my house and two others right next to it, burning on fire.“NOOO!”. I shouted as my heart raced. I ran as fast as I could toward my house, only noticing a few bystanders yelling for help and shouting for anyone inside.“MUUUM! MUUUM!”. I screamed at the top of my lungs as I got closer. “UNCLE! MUUUM!”. I screamed again as tears began to form in my eyes. I didn’t hesit
We kept walking, not taking any breaks, just treading further and further along the forest, going deeper than I’d hoped. There’s no way I could find my way home, especially on my own.“We’re here”. The man finally spoke and when I looked ahead, I good see through a cluster of trees, small orange lights glowing, dotted around. As soon as we walked through the trees and got to the other side, I couldn’t believe my eyes. “Where are we?” I asked him.“Camp! The safe zone!”. I simply replied. “Wait here!”. He ordered.I stood in the one spot as I looked around, there were several little wooden huts and cabins and ladders all up along some of the trees that lead to planked walkways. I scanned them, following where they led to with my eyes, and on opposite sides of the camp were two circular areas resting near the tops of the trees, and I could just about see two figures standing, watching on each of them. I glanced back at the man, to see he had walked to the first cabin and knocked on the
“Good morning grams”. I greeted her groggily as I sat up on the wooden bench.“Good morning my dear”. She replied with her back facing me as she filled two cups with hot water.“It feels so bizarre waking up to see you”. “I feel the same”. She said, turning around to hand me one of the cups. “I’ve put more herbs in it again. It’ll help your wound, everything in there is very good for you”. “Thank you”. I replied with a tired smile as I took the cup. “What is this place anyway, grams? Last night, I saw other people here. Who were they?” “I’ll tell you everything soon enough. But first I want you to tell me what you know about these rogues that attacked Whitlock”. “I don’t really know much actually”. I told her with a sigh. “It’s the second attack we’ve had in the space of a few weeks. When the first attack happened, there weren’t many of them. The second time, there were more, but Leo said they were quite weak, easy to take down. He seems to think the pack is being tested”. “Teste
My last four days at the camp have been…. Different. Good but different. Everyone here have been very welcoming especially when they learned I was Gram’s granddaughter, although they’d recognised it almost immediately with our same raven black hair and blue eyes. I spent most days just slotting myself in with whatever task certain groups were doing, whether that was gathering food or water. Keeping the camp up together, and last night I even had my very first guarding duty. I had begged Grams to let me do it, and she finally agreed, only if I had someone right next to me the whole time. It was actually fun being partnered with Izzy. She was twenty two, so close to me in age, long blonde hair and green eyes, she was pretty, tough and just such a breath of fresh air compared to the girls I had been used to. The more we got to know each other through the night, the more honest we became about our pasts and when I told her about the Whitlock pack, my family, Leo and why I ran away, she c
“ENOUGH! IT’S NOT WORKING”. I shouted in frustration to grams and Dante. We’d been doing this for a week now and so far there had been no sign of my wolf. “You just want to give up, do you? Like you gave up on your pack when you ran away!”. She goaded just as she had been for the past three days. “I didn’t give up! I wanted to go back!”. I replied defensively. “Oh, of course you did. If you say so, Raven, then I guess it must be true”. “Stop it grams!”. I said looking at her with warning. “Why, Raven? Can you honestly say you put up much of a fight or protest to go back?”. “I was scared grams!”. “Yes, scared of everything! Scared of being everything you’re meant to be! Or do you enjoy being on the end of everyone’s insults?” “That’s enough now, you’re going too far!”. “Me? You’re the one who told me you felt as though you let your family down! Is that it, Raven? You’re so comfortable with that idea, you have no interest on being true to yourself?” “I’ve always been true
