VALERIE

Alyssa and Ralph left for the Eclipse Pack before dawn.

I wasn’t sure what she’d said to convince him, but I’d woken to a rap at my door, where Mrs. Manson informed me they were leaving and to say my final goodbyes before they went.

I bid them farewell at the front gate, treasuring the hard embrace of Alyssa’s hug. Mrs. Manson and Lucia left not long after that, and I lingered at the gate for a long while once they were gone, listening to the howl of the wind and taking in the beautiful colors of the many trees wreathing the castle grounds.

It was midday when Lucas informed me that a limousine was on the way.

I was not keen on sliding back into my role of his property, but getting into Chelver would require another master-pet facade like the first time around.

I brought out the collar and leash to ask if we’d need them, but Lucas ripped them away before I could utter a word.

“Not every vampire needs that,” he said.

I dressed and covered Xavier’s bite mark with the makeup Mrs.

LUCASI found Nicasa in her quarters, drinking from the slave girl she had draped over her lap. When she spotted me, she unhooked her fangs from the girl’s neck and waved her away.“I thought you’d be longer,” she said, wiping the blood from her mouth with diligent fingers.I gave her little more than a shrug in response. “What do you want? I haven’t time for games.”It was a rare occasion when Nicasa and I spoke in private like this. In fact, throughout the course of our lives, I could recall on one hand the number of times she’d spoken to me and me alone.Unlike Benjamin, who reveled in my humiliation and yearned to burn it into me at any given moment, Nicasa simply ignored my very existence.“I’d heard what you asked of Father in the throne room,” she said. “I didn’t hear it on purpose—truly. But it was difficult to ignore, considering how angry it had made him. I was curious. Why are you so interested in that moment in time? It isn’t as if it has anything to do with you.”“Stay cu

VALERIEI woke to a body next to mine and sat up with a start, forgetting entirely where I was. When my swimming vision fell back into place, I recognized Lucas’s sleeping face next to mine.He looked so delicate in sleep—far more boyish than he seemed while awake. But also, much more solemn. I had never seen someone look so terribly sad while sleeping. You want to kiss him? Diya whispered. You want to touch lips with the bloodsucker? The fiend? I felt the heat rush to my cheeks at her question, and silently shook my head.Liar, Diya said. Your heart flutters for him. Wrong. Terribly wrong. How vile to break the heart of our mate for a leech like him.The heat on my face quickly turned to prickling irritation.“I’m not,” I bit back. “I won’t.”I shut my eyes and focused on pushing her form my mind. It had become more difficult in the passing days; Diya was slowly ingraining herself into me; it wouldn’t be long until I couldn’t fight her off anymore. Most of the time, I was rather gra

LUCASI moved through the corridor with haste, my mind frazzled.I was an idiot to bring Valerie here.I swerved out of the way of a drunken bastard, stupidly clinging onto the skirt of a kitchen maid’s dress, and felt a nerve pluck within me.To make matters worse, whatever might have happened in Orheroad seemed to…awaken her. She was a werewolf now—if she had been discovered on the premises, I wouldn’t have simply lost an arm; I’d have been done away with. Not to mention the terrible things that would have happened to her.Gods, I was too weak-willed and now I was paying the price. If she were to fall into the hands of another vampire, I…The scent of blood was strong in the air as I passed a feeding. My stomach clenched and heaved, like it could leap through my skin and chase that scent—but I was too distracted by the thought of how absolutely delusional this all was. It’s a one-time favor, I told myself. Just this once and never again. I’ll never let her touch the soil here again

VALERIEA feast was placed out on the dining table that night. Mrs. Manson and Lucia had been cooking all day to prepare, but the room was deafly silent when we gathered at the table for dinner. No one seemed to have much of an appetite.Mrs. Manson came to Lucas’s side twice to refill his goblet of wine. I wasn’t sure why he’d chosen wine instead of blood tonight, but I supposed maybe it was just his way of giving me a considerate send off.He hadn’t spoken a word to me since our last discussion. I wasn’t sure what he’d seen in me in that moment, but Lucas seemed almost…rattled by something. He poured back glass after glass of wine while I spent the entirety of dinner poking at cooked quail. My stomach felt like it was clenched in a tight knot, and I did not make even the slightest attempt to eat any.I was far too distracted by Lucas’s sudden aloofness, anyway. He couldn’t so much as spare a glance in my direction, and I wondered what it was that I’d done to warrant such animosity f

LUCASI wanted to believe that I was more to this girl than a shark in blood-infested waters. That she of all people saw beneath this cold, blood-hungry veneer. That she cared for me the way Chelsea had.Gods, what a stupid, pathetic, human thing to think about. Her skin was soft beneath my touch—even at the swollen skin of Xavier’s tiny, god forsaken marks. I could smell the ghost of her blood there, but I held my rage like a hurricane beneath my ribs. It did little good. It was only in a vampire’s nature to cast fear over their subjects, and I was beginning to feel like a ravenous owl with a mouse clutched in my thorny talons. It was in the way Valerie looked up at me—eyes wide and breath hitched.I wondered if she knew just how tempting she looked like this. How innocent that gaze was—and how unfooled I was by it.I could smell the dog on her, after all.But why? Why did it infuriate me so? Why should I be so surprised to know that Xavier had finally bedded the girl? That he had l

  • Ravished By The Alphas (Reverse-Harem Paranormal Romance)   Chapter 122 Empty Castle

VALERIE Xavier led us to the sentry post before the sun had fully risen in the sky. The horizon was a brilliant lavender, the air crisp and chilly. There were no guards around, and carnage spilled upon the grass. Blood, fur, weapons and signs of struggle in the dirt. I supposed there would be a lot of violence from this moment forward. That this would not be the last puddle of blood I saw. I just hoped, with all my heart, that none of it would belong to Xavier. Distantly, Lucas stood beside the cab of a black sedan, patiently staring down the sunrise. We had but a moment to say our goodbyes, and I was afraid to start. The sooner I began, the sooner it would be over with. And I might never see Xavier again. When the time came, when I heard his voice whisper my name, “Valerie.” I did not hesitate. I threw my arms around Xavier and clutched onto him with all the strength in me. I didn’t want to go. I didn’t want to leave him here, but I knew I would only be a liability. Besides, h

XAVIERI watched Valerie’s sleeping face, her cheeks peppered pink from the warmth of the bed. My body was still on fire, long after the crisp of night swept into the old house and flushed out all the heat. The mark on Valerie’s neck glowed, red and angry in the dim light of an impending dawn. One single bite, not deep enough to break flesh, but deep enough to bruise it. Deep enough to leave the impression of every tooth. Beneath it, the soft red petals of kiss-marks peppered down her body, vanishing beneath the blankets. I shouldn’t have given in to my desires; she needed her rest, and I needed my focus. But I did not expect the way my body would react once I was biting down on her elegant neck. And I did not expect the way her body reacted to my bite. How potent her pheromones became once she was marked.I was not strong enough to deny her after that.I had kissed every inch of her until she begged me to take her, and I could not remember much else beyond the sound of her cry in the

  • Ravished By The Alphas (Reverse-Harem Paranormal Romance)   Chapter 120 There's only one way to find you

VALERIE “What do you mean?” The fear and anger clenched so tightly in my chest, it felt like a rib would break. Stay? He was all I had and now we were being separated? I had just lost Ava. I was going to lose Xavier, too? “You can’t stay! I don’t want to leave you!” Tears pricked at my eyes—tears of rage this time. Not anger, not pain. Rage. Because it was just so unfair. After everything, it was just so unfair to lose them both. “No! I just lost Ava, I won’t lose you too!” Again, he kissed me, and again I could do nothing but kiss him back. It was the feeling of air in your lungs after a long time under water, and I loved breathing Xavier in. I loved the sweet warmth of his kiss, the softness of his lips. But I hated the way it quenched the fire in me. The way I felt…a little less angry. “Lucas will protect you,” he said as we broke apart, gently leaning his forehead against mine. I could hardly breathe. The tears burned like acid on my cheeks. I shook my head, pulling away f
