Chapter 1

Jaxon Stone had cheated, and Liana Winslow knew it.

She stood outside the CEO's office, her body exuding frostiness like a layer of ice had formed over it. Her black heels almost seemed to blend in with the black marble floor. She stood there for a while before knocking on the door.

"Enter." A man's deep voice came from within.

Liana tightened her hold on the documents in one hand while opening the door with the other. She smiled faintly the moment the door swung open, and she approached Jaxon. "Are you busy? I have a few urgent documents that require your signature."

She was asking whether he was busy, but she'd already placed the documents before him. She even considerately flipped to the page that he needed to sign.

Jaxon had gone to Swanland on a business trip and had just returned that morning. He'd gone straight to the office to attend to work, so his desk was piled high with documents and papers. His handsome face carried a hint of fatigue. He didn't even look at the documents that Liana handed him before signing.

"Thanks." Liana tucked the documents away and asked perfunctorily, "Are you coming home for dinner?"

"I have something on. Don't wait up for me," he answered without even looking up.

"Alright. I'll get going then." She turned to leave. As soon as her back was to him, her smile turned mocking.

When she walked past the attached lounge, she heard a soft sound come from within. It almost sounded like a small animal jumping and landing on the floor. She glanced at the couch to see some snacks and a half-empty cup of milk tea on the coffee table. A nude pink heel was also lying on its side on the floor.

A single look was enough to tell her what she needed to know. Her heart sank until it hit rock bottom.

Liana returned to her office. The journey back seemed to zap all the strength out of her. When she sat down, she exhaled deeply, feeling defeated. Then, she extracted a document from the pile Jaxon had just signed. It was a divorce agreement.

She flipped to the last page and traced his signature with a mocking look on her face. Memories flashed in her mind. She remembered his determination and devotion when he told her that he would marry her.

She also remembered how his mother, Melinda Brown, had sneered as she told her not to let it go to her head. She'd warned that no man would love one woman for life, but Liana had confidently rebutted her, saying that she and Jaxon were different.

However, it seemed that they were no different from everyone else.

Jaxon had cheated on her with a young woman, and even thought that he'd done well in hiding the truth. He savored the clandestine pleasure of having an affair, his conscience wholly unaffected by it. He'd actually brought the young woman with him on his business trip, even bringing her to the office with him.

Liana retracted her finger and took a picture of the signature on the divorce agreement. She sent it to Melinda. "He's signed it."

She and Melinda had struck a deal a week ago. The latter had asked her to proactively obtain a divorce and to keep her failed marriage with Jaxon a secret. She, on the other hand, had asked for a billion dollars as compensation.

In a month, Liana would make Jaxon get the hell out of her world.

Just then, someone knocked on the door. She tucked the divorce agreement away and said, "Come in."

The door swung open to reveal Roy Holt, Jaxon's assistant.

"Ms. Winslow, Mr. Stone asked me to bring this to you." He placed an ink-green velvet box before her.

She opened it noncommittally to see a set of expensive diamond jewelry inside. The first thing she thought of was a short-haired young woman wearing a bathrobe with a dazed look on her face. The young woman casually dangled a diamond necklace from her finger.

The lights behind her painted a suggestive picture, and the messy bed only added to it. The hickeys and kiss marks on her chest were disturbingly obvious.

Liana's stomach churned with nausea. "Thank you, Mr. Holt."

She gave Roy a sharp look, which made his hair stand on end. He couldn't help saying, "Mr. Stone painstakingly picked this out. It's the only set in the world."

It was too bad that Jaxon's heart and feelings weren't the only set in the world. Well, she no longer wanted them, anyway.

Liana smiled. "Oh, really? It's touching that he squeezed out time from his busy schedule to buy me a gift."

Roy found her words odd. He wondered if she knew about Jaxon and Clarissa Beech's affair.

That thought made him break out in a cold sweat. As such, he hurried out of Liana's office.

Liana looked at the jewelry with disgust and took a picture of it. Then, she sent the photo to the owner of a secondhand luxury goods store. "Sell this for me and donate the money to a fund for mentally disabled children."

The owner was lost for words.

It was 5:00 pm, and Liana had just reached her car in the parking lot. She was about to get into the car when she glanced at the car diagonally opposite hers. Its engine was already running.

Through the window, she saw Jaxon in the backseat and a short-haired young woman clinging to him intimately. Her face was youthful, and she exuded vivacity.

"Mr. Stone!" Roy cried out in surprise and slammed the brakes.

Liana met Jaxon's eyes through the window.
