knives

Abigail's POV

It's been three days since my parents told me about Carter, my soon to be husband.... totally makes me want to puke. I was sitting in my room, sharpening a really fancy dagger... bored out of my fucking mind. I'm really starting to have a liking for knives.

Carter Rodriguez, the son of one of my father's numerous "business partners", also used to be buddies with Fernando when they were younger. He was the kind of guy who would date numerous girls back then, only for every single one of them to break up with him in a matter of weeks.

Carter had recently inherited his father's arm dealing company after the latter died of colon cancer. A very tragic occurrence if you ask me, because I heard his mother died long ago also because of cancer... wouldn't be surprised if his Zodiac sign is Cancer too.

Carter's sudden ownership of his late father's business had brought more success than expected. His wealth amassed and also did his power. The Rodriguez family was back in business again, and many thought they would be an indomitable force to be reckoned with. My father happened to be among one of the "many".

He had always been an ally of the Rodriguez, but this time, he was willing to go extra miles. My father was selling me out, using marriage as a cover. That selfish bastard! He's only trying to uphold his murderous and genocidal reputation. I wonder what kind of weapon he is trading me for.

I remembered the way he remained unbothered by my clear disagreement at the idea. I had made my anger known by throwing a couple stuffs and even tried to throw a tantrum... keyword "tried". Turns out not much can be done when it's more of an order than an idea. My father was not one to make mere "suggestions."

In a fit of rage, I collided my metal fist into a nearby wall, making a large gaping hole in it's place. I swore underneath my breath, not meaning to do that much damage.

Releasing a breath I didn't know I was holding, I held out my bionic arm, examining it.

My reflection stared coldly at me from a nearby mirror. That particular mirror in my room that I've always wanted to avoid...but can't find it in me to shatter it. This was where Maria normally dressed herself...in front of this damn mirror.

My blonde hair were in two big braids, running down each side of my shoulders. Still totally need a haircut. My skin seemed to be extremely pale, considering the fact that I was not the type to shy away from the sun.

My brown eyes had a kind of contrast to my total appearance. They looked... wicked, I like them.

I was putting on a tank top with my signature jeans shorts. Feels nice to finally wear something sexy.

My tongue came out to lick my full, red lips, as a subtle smirk formed on my face in approval. I'm so fucking gorgeous, if I do say so myself. And I know it.

I walked over to the fridge in the corner of my room and open it. picking out an apple, I sank my eager teeth into it as I sauntered over to my bed.

Then I heard it. Tiny, annoying footsteps of someone who was clearly attempting to sneak up on me. Can't these people let me be?

Without hesitation, I swiftly picked up my dagger, throwing it skillfully in the direction of the creepy ass behind me.

There was a slight yelp from behind the curtains concealing whoever it was. I leaned on a nearby wardrobe, casually taking another bite out of the delicious apple.

I squinted my eyes at the shadowed figure behind my curtain. I could already make out the person to be a male. Judging by how much curse words he was uttering lowly, I knew who it was already. Rolling my eyes, I turned around and headed for the fridge... again.

" You know, for someone who used to be so whack at using knives, you seem to have too much bloodlust." Fernando's annoying voice filled my ears as I turned to regard him with a raised eyebrow.

I gasped lowly when I saw the knife wound on his shoulder healing. Like... closing up really fast. He noticed my gaze and smirked. Bastard.

" Never seen a healing wound before?" He teased, walking towards my fridge to take out a drink...my drink.

I continued eyeing him in question. Nobody just heals from a knife wound like that...unless.

"Fine! I got an upgrade, if you're wondering." He said casually, sipping from a can of beer.

"I let Papa use me for one of his little experiments, turns out... whatever they injected me with was potent as fuck!" He chuckled, sitting on my bed and patting the open space beside him for me to sit.

I remained standing. My arms folded as I kept glaring at him.

" You know at some point, you're gonna have to go on a real mission.." he sighed.

I already knew where this conversation was heading. Another fucker coming to me with his biddings. I started to turn around, opening my wardrobe.

" Papa just wants to protect us Abby, can't you see?" He stood up from the bed, approaching me.

" We are at war with those monsters. Don't you remember what they did to Maria?" He continued.

I closed my eyes in annoyance. I remember that night, and it was my fault as much as it was my parent's. The so called "monsters" wouldn't have killed Maria if she had been protected in the first place.

Fernando pinched the bridge of his nose and ran his hands through his hair in frustration.

" Look, Papa didn't send me to tell you all this. I'm just trying to help...I know you don't really want to get married to Carter." He whined, almost desperately.

I avoided eye contact with him, not wanting him to read me.

"If you can join our hunt and prove your worth to our father, he'll keep you... please think about it." He said

" You're a very strong and skillful warrior, Abby. Father would never think of marrying you off, if you..." He trailed off, sensing my rising annoyance and lack of interest in the discussion.

I busied myself with sorting out clothes from my wardrobe as Fernando stood behind me awkwardly. I didn't want to pay attention to his or my parent's bullshit...and I hope he sees that.

"Fine then.. have it your way." He suddenly said in a cold tone. His previous display of concern for my welfare, now down the drain.

"Carter will be here tomorrow. Be ready to meet him." He said, exiting through my balcony.

My shoulders sagged immediately as I sighed and sat down on the floor, my back again the wardrobe. I suddenly felt exhausted.... defeated. A feeling I don't like too well.

I knew my father was desperate for me to join his army of genocidal mercenaries. I knew about my strength and abilities. I trained almost all my life, even before Maria's death.

What I never quite understood was why I need to keep killing those creatures for the rest of my life. Why I needed to devote my life to making them extinct and letting people like my parents live.

I remembered when last my father smiled at me. It was the day I killed my first werewolf....one of those that killed Maria.

He had it captured and subdued in chains as he handed me a pistol. I remembered the look on it's eyes, it wasn't red with anger anymore.

I remembered how it trembled in fear of what I was about to do to it.

I remember closing my eyes and pulling the trigger as blood splattered across my face.

I remembered how my father just ruffled my hair and chuckled...like I'd won a goddamn trophy.

It should have felt good. Killing those monsters that ripped my sister apart, should have felt good. However, I just couldn't shake the feeling that there's more. There's more to those creatures...more to the huntings and killings.

Snapping out of my thoughts, I stood up and started tying my hair in a bun. Drake is gonna eat his head if I arrived late again today. I'd scheduled combat training with him as of yesterday.

Slamming my room door shut, I ran swiftly down the hallway. Throwing myself over a flight of stairs, I landed on my feet. I headed for the exit and continued my way into the vast forest that sorrounds our mansion.

I suddenly reached a clearing in the forest, my spot.

All the trainings I ever had since I was just a kid, took place here.

" You're late by three minutes." Drake's voice echoed through the woods, making me wince.

He's gone full instructor mode. To be honest, it was more of sparring than "training". I bet I could kick his ass anytime.

A fist collided with my jaw, forcing my neck to turn to the side. Fuck!

Without warning, another punch landed on my stomach, making me inhale sharply and double over.

When the fuck did he punch so hard?!

I moved away on time as he made an attempt to probably crush my head with his boots.

" You get distracted way too much." He stated, arms folded behind him like some goddamn pro.

" Want to tell me what you're thinking about?" He mused, circling me slowly.

" Oh! ...I forgot. You're mute." He chuckled darkly, in a tone that literally sent chills down my spine.

It was almost like...it wasn't really Drake standing before me. He would never say those things. Right?

" Oh honey! Forgive my manners." He smirked.

His bones snapping audibly and his body twisted unnaturally. I heard him groan lowly as his body morphed into an older looking ...man?

I mean... what kind of old man keeps such an incredibly lengthy hair? He was also clad in a cloak...which was really weird because who the hell can withstand such heat??!

I must have been gaping for God knows how long, because he suddenly cleared his throat, snapping me out of my "trance".

"Did you even hear a word of what I said?" He dramatically sighed and face palmed.

I stood up from my crouching position and blinked twice, getting into my fighting stance.

He merely turned his back to me, clicking his tongue in disapproval.

"My name is Okiro. A warlock of the five white clans of Duna. An endangered specie and the one of the last of my kind... thanks to your father's good work."

What the fuck now? I'm pretty sure my eyes were as big as saucers now.

" A lot to handle, I know. Don't worry about me killing you, if I wanted you dead, piece of cake." He continued, without a care in the world.

Fuck this! I'm not talking to an old weirdo in the middle of the woods.

I suddenly charged towards him with a punch from my bionic arm. He dodged it easily, but he wasn't prepared for my real attack.

I sent a flying knee to his chin, making him stagger a few feet backwards. I smirked.

He spat out thick red liquid from his mouth, as he held his jaw and gave a creepy smile.

" Impressive... really impressive, Abigail."

I squinted my eyes at him, unsure of how to take his "compliment"...and how the fuck does he know my name?

" Why, you're welcome! Now will like to know my real purpose here?" He suddenly turns serious.

I relaxed my stance a bit, gesturing towards him to start talking.

He turned his back towards me... again.

"Your father has infuriated some really dangerous creatures." He said, calmly.

I frowned.

"Abigail, how much do you know about the supernatural world?" He looked back at me with glowing white eyes.

enjoy!!
