I stared silently, my lips hanging open in shock.

Maybe this was a bad idea.

I wore a smile, yanking his hand off. “Your jokes are always expensive, Mr. Liam…” I chuckled dryly, lifting a glass of water to my lips.

“I'm not joking.”

I almost choked on the water… almost.

I bit down into my lip, fondling my fingers, unsure what to say to him.

Then my phone rang, cutting through the moment.

“Excuse me, please.” I muttered, reaching for my phone.

“Hello!” My voice cracked as I spoke on the phone, heart thudding loudly in my chest.

“Hey! Jess… where are you? I came home but you were not here.”

I glanced at Mr. Liam, my grip tightening around the phone.

Maybe I could get away from him using this opportunity.

I chuckled softly. “Oh… Is it urgent, Mr. Hall?... I'll be there right away if it is.”
