Valerie's POV

"Why can't you just listen to me?! What has gone wrong with you?!!" I yelled at April as soon as we were standing in the motel. Grandma must've heard my enraged voice because I heard her footsteps hurrying to the lobby.

"You used to listen to me and now all of sudden, you won't! Even when we're so close to danger!! That's when you think it's cool to be a rebel?!!"

"Valerie," Grandma called in shock as she walked into the lobby, staring between April and I. "What is going on?"

"She doesn't listen, grandma. Stay away from him! He is dangerous! You can't trust anyone! Do I have to say this all the time?!"

"I'm sorry." April burst out crying, looking down at her feet.

"Sorry won't save you, you know? What did you say to him?"

"Valerie, easy on her. She's just a child." Grandma stood beside her, wrapping her right arms around her shoulders and pulling her closer to herself.

"She's supposed to listen! It's not easy trying to keep her safe, to keep us safe! She's making it hard
