Chapter 1

"Did you hear? Mr. Stone Senior specifically asked for Mrs. Ingram and threatened to bankrupt Mr. Ingram's company if she didn't comply. Apparently, Mr. Ingram has agreed."

"Mr. Stone Senior is in his 60s and is notorious for being a freak. No one would come out of his private brothel alive—at least not with a sane mind. How could Mr. Ingram send her to hell?"

"Well, well. That's because his first love is in the picture. If Ms. Riverson had been the one summoned, Mr. Ingram would rather give up his entire fortune than let her get close to that man!"

The door was half open, so the maids' hushed gossip drifted in from the living room. Pam Williams, who was helping me organize my clothes, couldn't help piping up.

"Mrs. Ingram, don't listen to their nonsense. Why don't you talk to Mr. Ingram again? He's your husband—he'd never actually do such a heartless thing to you."

I smiled helplessly. "Forget it. It's useless."

Everyone in the upper circle knew what Walter Stone was like. He controlled everything and showed no mercy. My husband, Caleb Ingram, would never provoke him for my sake—I knew that much about myself.

In my previous life, Caleb agreed almost immediately when he heard about Walter's demand. To make me go willingly, he put on a show of devotion. He told lie after lie, saying he would rather let the company go bankrupt than give me up.

I was just starting to concede when I saw him downstairs, locked in a deep kiss with Sadie Riverson, his precious first love. And so, I changed my mind. I threatened him with suicide, pointing a knife at my protruding belly until he gave in.

Later, Sadie came forward and volunteered to go in my place. Caleb's eyes immediately reddened. The day he sent her to Walter's villa, he made her a promise right in front of me that he would divorce me and marry her when she came back.

However, the day after she returned, she took her life. The autopsy revealed that she had been pregnant. Caleb handled her funeral casually, and he never brought up divorce again.

I thought that even though he had loved Sadie deeply, he would move on because she was already gone. I believed he still remembered the bond between us and intended to spend the rest of his life earnestly with me. Yet, he did the one thing I never expected.

On the day I gave birth, he took our newborn baby and tossed him off the hospital rooftop. Seeing the life I had carried for ten months, then turned into a pile of bloodied flesh, I knew he had been pretending all this while.

He had never truly moved on from Sadie. In fact, he had resented me all this time.

Hence, when I was reborn and heard Walter had summoned me again, I didn't fight back. In this life, I would gladly step aside and give them my blessings.

"Mrs. Ingram, Mr. Ingram is back and wants you downstairs."

I nodded calmly. "Alright."

I went to the living room and saw Sadie there, taken aback momentarily at how boldly Caleb was gripping her hand in front of me. Had he been reborn as well?

"Nala, Mr. Stone Senior has summoned you. He wants you to go over in two days. You should pack your things," Caleb said. "Oh, and starting today, Sadie will be moving in."

Had this been in the past, I would've lost control and caused a huge scene. Now, I simply nodded and said, "Alright."

Caleb avoided my gaze, guilt flashing across his face. His tone brazenly turned impatient. "What are you plotting this time? Making a fuss won't save you. Go against Mr. Stone Senior, and your consequences will be worse than death."

Sadie chimed in. "That's right. This is also to protect the Ingram family's business. Besides, being chosen by Mr. Stone Senior is a blessing in itself."

I chuckled. "Is that so? Why don't I give this blessing to you, then?"

Caleb flew into a rage at once. "He's the one who's after you! Why are you taking it out on Sadie? Stop with the unwanted sarcasm and apologize to her now."

I ignored him, only to see Sadie dropping to her knees behind him out of nowhere. She put on a righteous, heroic look.

"Mr. Ingram, please don't fight with your wife because of me. I'm just an assistant. I'll get over it, even if she wants to look down on me or mock me. As long as the company is safe, I'm willing to go to Mr. Stone Senior in her place!"

Before her knees even touched the floor, Caleb hurriedly pulled her up. "You're pregnant, Sadie. Don't kneel to her."

The way he looked at her screamed pure adoration. "I know you'd give up everything for me, but Nala's the one he wants."

He suddenly turned to me, his gaze cold. "I'm warning you—don't get any ideas about Sadie, or I won't let you off. If you're worried that I won't want you after you come back, you can relax. I promise I won't divorce you over this."

I could only sneer inside. I turned around, took out a document, and handed it to Caleb.

He frowned, asking, "What is this supposed to mean?"

I smiled. "To make room for the right person, of course. Let's get a divorce, Caleb."

Under Walter's repeated persuasion, I eventually moved into the Stone residence. At first, Andrew still called me "Nally". But at some point, without me realizing, he started inventing all kinds of nicknames for me—Nana, Nal, Nala-bear… It got to the point where I started wondering if he had been possessed by something. Then, one night, when he pinned me against a corner and called me "babe", sparks flew. He murmured, his throat dry and tight, "Nally, give me a hand…"I blushed deeply and looked up at him, my eyes wide with a mix of panic and curiosity. "How?"He lifted me onto the bed, holding me around the waist. At first, he took the lead, but as time passed, I rolled on top of him. Soon, we were like two restless beasts, each move pushing the other further all the way until dawn. After a night of warmth, I buried my flushed face in the covers, too shy to look at him. Andrew leaned against the headboard, calm and teasing. "I hope this isn't a one-night stand, Nana."I peeked

The guests looked at one another in shock.Caleb panicked. "You're lying! Even if the startup capital came from you, I've been running the company all these years. I'm the legal representative. How could the company be yours?"Seeing how clueless he was, I couldn't help laughing. "You're right. You did run the company. You've worked hard all these years. But the investment records are clear, Caleb. One check, and the truth will come out. I'm not lying."I continued, "I never interfered with how you spent money over the years, but those shares, properties, and company holdings are all under my name. If we really want to be precise, even this wedding might've been paid for with my money.""Bullshit!"Caleb lunged toward me, ready to strike, but Avery stepped in and blocked him. He gripped his wrist and asked, "Everyone's watching, including the police. Are you sure you're going to assault someone here, Mr. Ingram?"Caleb's expression darkened and mottled with rage, but he didn't da

"I certainly misunderstood your grandpa," I said, smiling awkwardly. What a huge misunderstanding."Andrew, please thank your grandpa for me—""Why not thank me in person?"Walter's voice suddenly rang out. I jumped, having no idea when he had come in. I looked at Walter nervously, then quickly lowered my head. "Mr. Stone Senior, I don't know where to begin—"I was just about to sit up when a broad hand pressed me gently back onto the bed. "Lie down. You saved Andrew, so that makes you a benefactor of the Stone family. This is nothing—we're even."Walter's gaze shifted to the cup of water beside me. He tested the temperature, then frowned. "Bring another cup and make sure it's warm."Faced with his concern, I was so moved that I didn't know what to say. When the water was brought over, Andrew immediately stood up and reached for it. "I'll do it. You should get some rest, Avery."Walter watched the two of us back and forth, a smile slowly forming. He suddenly asked, "Nala, wha

Andrew? Why was he here? I had to be dreaming. When I opened my eyes, the first thing I saw was a ridiculously handsome face staring at me from inches away. The next second, he pulled me into a tight hug. "You're finally awake!""Andrew? Is that you?" I asked. When I was studying film, I once attended a charity gala with my mentor and ended up helping an injured man. He said he was being targeted by bad people and had nowhere to go, so out of kindness, I let him stay with me for a month. Then, one day, he took off. All he left behind was a note that said, "I'm going home, Nally. If you ever need help, call this number."Andrew nervously gripped my hand. "You know, after I went home, I'd been wanting to see you again. But Grandpa was worried I'd be targeted again, so he sent me abroad."He continued, "When Avery called me, I was scared out of my mind. I bought the first ticket home immediately. Do you know? You were unconscious for three days…"I moved my hands and feet. Although

One time, Caleb went three days without sleeping. I saw how haggard he looked and yanked him away from his computer, shoving him under the covers."Are you kidding me, Nala? I haven't finished the proposal!" he barked, scowling at me."I don't care if you're mad at me. You have to put up with this," I said, handing him a mug of warm milk. "I'm not leaving until you sleep."He stared at me for a long moment, then broke into a smile. "Nala… With you here, I feel like I can actually make it." Gradually, his startup began to gain traction. Meanwhile, I slowly withdrew from the acting world. My friends all said I was crazy, turning my back on a promising career just to be a housewife for a man.I didn't care about the noise. I loved Caleb, and I was willing to be the woman supporting him.Since he was too busy to take care of himself, I made a point of cooking for him every day—simmering soups, making steaks, and flamming up his favorite barbecued ribs. Each time he ate, his mouth w

Halfway through the drive, I could feel a dull ache spreading through my abdomen. Before long, it turned into searing pain. That was when it hit me—something was wrong with the liquid Sadie forced on me.I had thought she was only trying to humiliate me, but I realized then she was far more vicious than I had imagined. She was afraid that if I somehow survived and returned to the Ingram residence, the spot she had worked so hard to steal would no longer be hers.Hence, she wanted me to die on the way to Walter's place, to lose both the baby and me in one clean stroke. That way, the blame could be pinned on him, and it would have nothing to do with her. With Walter's power, who in their right mind would investigate him?At that thought, I quickly informed Avery in the front seat, "Please help me… My stomach hurts a lot…" His visage paled. "What happened to you, Ms. Brown? Mr. Stone Senior ordered me to deliver you to him in one piece!"Half an hour later, the luxury car stopped a
