ログインCynthia's POV
I stood inside the main hallway of Miles Estate. I tapped the central security panel on the wall. I punched in my master admin code. With three taps on the screen, I revoked Robb’s keycard access. I revoked Shae’s visitor pass. Neither of them could open the main gate or the house doors anymore. Outside, the two cars drove up the long driveway. Robb’s black Mercedes led the way, with Shae’s red sedan right behind him. They pulled up to the heavy iron gate. Through the security monitor on the wall, I watched Robb lean out of his car window. He tapped his keycard against the scanner. BEEP-BEEP. The scanner flashed red. Access denied. Robb tapped it again. Harder. Red light again. Robb frowned. He got out of his car, wearing his expensive navy suit. Shae got out of her red car right behind him, holding a gold-wrapped box. Robb pressed the intercom button on the post outside. Inside the house, the chime rang. My phone buzzed. A text message from Shae came through. It was a short video. I clicked it. The video showed Shae’s face smiling brightly. She held up the gold box with a pink ribbon. "Hey bestie! Happy early birthday!" Shae said in the video. "I brought your birthday dress early! And Robb just got back from his business trip for your company! The gate scanner is acting glitchy. Open up for us, baby.” I put my phone in my pocket. My hands were completely steady. "Agatha," I said, turning to my nanny. "Ensure that the front doors are actually locked from the inside. Do not open them for anyone. Stay inside with Biscuit." "Miss Cynthia, where are you going?" Agatha asked, her eyes full of worry. "To attend to the two people out there," I said. I walked out the front door onto the stone porch. The doors clicked shut and locked automatically behind me. I walked down the porch steps toward the gate. I stopped ten feet away, keeping the heavy steel bars between us. Robb looked through the bars at me. He was still trying to swipe his card. "Cynthia! Finally!" Robb called out. "What is wrong with this stupid scanner? It keeps rejecting my card." Shae rushed up beside him, holding the gold box through the iron bars. "Cynthia, babe!" Shae sang out with a big smile. "Look! I brought your birthday dress early! It's bright pink! It's going to look so pretty on you for your party! Tell the security system to let us in!" I stood straight and looked at both of them. "The scanner is not broken," I said softly. "I revoked your codes." Robb stopped swiping his card. He blinked. "You did what?" Robb asked. "Why would you do that?" "Because you are not coming inside," I said. "Either of you." Silence fell over the gate. Robb stared at me like I had lost my mind. Shae’s big fake smile faltered. "Cynthia, stop playing," Robb said, taking a step closer to the iron bars. "I just spent thirty hours traveling and doing meetings for YOUR father's business! I am exhausted! Open this gate!" "You didn't do any meetings for my company, Robb," I said. "You lie. Every time you say you go on a business trip, you are lying." Robb's face turned red. "What are you talking about? I run your family's assets!" He pulled a thick black folder out from his jacket. He shoved it against the iron bars. "I brought the rest of the management update forms you missed last week," Robb snapped, his voice getting sharp. "And the full transfer papers. Sign them right now so I can go inside!" "No," I said. "I am not signing over my father's company. Not today. Not on September 15th. Never." Shae stepped forward. Her sweet best-friend act vanished completely. Her eyes went sharp and mean. "Cynthia, what is wrong with you?" Shae yelled through the gate. "Robb is doing everything for you! Do you know how lucky you are? Look at yourself! You are ninety-five kilos! You eat all day and cry! Robb stays with you even when you look like a pig! If he leaves you, nobody else will ever want you!" I looked at Shae. In the old timeline, those words would have made me cry, and then she would make me apologize to Robb for ‘acting weird’. Now, I felt nothing. Her words didn't hurt me anymore. "I know you two are sleeping together," I said plainly. Shae gasped. Robb’s mouth dropped open. "I know about the guest room," I said, staring into Robb's eyes. "I know you both want my father's money. I have all the evidence I need. Get off my property." Robb lost his temper this time. He slammed his fist against the iron gate. "You crazy bitch!" Robb roared. "You think you can talk to me like this? I am your husband!" He reached his long arm through the iron bars of the gate. He grabbed my wrist hard. He pulled me violently against the gate, trying to force my hand toward the electronic lock panel on my side. "Open it!" Robb yelled, twisting my arm. "Let go!" I shouted, pulling back with all my weight. Suddenly, a heavy engine roared down the street. Two large, black armored SUVs sped up the driveway. They swerved hard and parked sideways right behind Robb and Shae’s cars, blocking them in. The doors flew open. Heavy boots hit the gravel. On the front of the lead SUV, a silver custom plate gleamed in the light. It read: MCPHERSON SECURITY. A tall, broad man stepped out. He wore a black vest, cargo pants, and combat boots. His eyes were cold like steel. He was the same familiar figure. But seeing him this time made my heart flip. Daniel McPherson was here.Cynthia's POV Daniel MacPherson stepped out of his black armored SUV like a giant wall of steel. He was six-foot-four, broad, and wore a dark military vest over his combat shirt. He didn't even look at Shae. He walked straight up to Robb at the gate."Remove your hands from Miss Miles's gate," Daniel said. His voice was low and extremely cold.Robb turned around, his face red with anger. He looked up at Daniel. Robb was tall, but Daniel towered over him like a mountain."Who the hell are you?" Robb barked. "This is private family business! Get out of my face!"Daniel didn't flinch. He stepped right into Robb's personal space. Two of Daniel's security guards stepped out of the second SUV behind him, their hands resting on their sidearms."I am James Miles's former head of security," Daniel said softly, staring down into Robb's eyes. "And you are harassing Miss Cynthia. If she wants you off her property, you leave. Right now."Shae shrank back toward her red car, her face turning pale.

Cynthia I woke up gasping. My arm was not burned. There was no yellow rain. No hissing. No smell of rotten eggs.I was in my bedroom. In my big soft bed. In Miles Estate. And something wet was licking my face.Biscuit.My golden retriever was alive. His golden fur was clean. No burns. No smoke. He was whining and licking my cheeks like he knew I had a nightmare and he was trying to comfort me."Biscuit!" I grabbed him and hugged him so tight he yelped. Tears poured out of my eyes. "You're alive! You're alive and you're safe!"Last time I saw him, his back was smoking. He was howling in acid rain and I couldn't save him or save myself. Now he was here. Warm and alive."Miss Cynthia? Are you okay? I heard you scream."It was Agatha. She ran into my room wearing her kitchen apron. Her face was perfect. No blisters. No burns. She was alive and well.I stared at her. In the old timeline, she died in my arms in the guard room. Her last words were _make them pay_ and I had damn well swore
Cynthia I don't know how long I stayed on the floor of the locked guest room.I pounded on the door until my fists were red. I screamed until my voice broke."ROBB! EVELYN! OPEN THE DOOR! THIS IS MY HOUSE! MY FATHER BUILT THIS HOUSE!"No one came.I slid down the door and cried. My wrists were red where Robb twisted them. My pink dress was ripped at the shoulder. This is my house. My father built it with his hands. And now I was locked in it like a prisoner. There was suddenly the sound of the handle of the door clicking. The door opened a crack and Agatha slipped inside. Agatha is sixty-eight. She has always been my nanny. She raised me after my parents died. She is my mother now. Behind her legs, Biscuit pushed his head inside. He whined when he saw me on the floor and ran to lick my face."My baby! My poor baby!" Agatha whispered, dropping to her knees and hugging me. Her hands were shaking. "I heard them. I heard what that boy and that evil girl said. I told Evelyn you are not c
Cynthia I didn't sleep after my birthday party.I sat on the floor of my bedroom in that stupid pink dress, holding that box of Genesis diet pills Robb gave me in front of everyone. At 2 AM, I got up. I needed water. My throat was dry from crying. The house was dark and quiet. I walked down the long hallway toward the kitchen. Our mansion is huge. As I passed the guest wing where Robb was staying, I heard a noise.A soft laugh. A woman's laugh. My heart stopped. I know that laugh. It's Shae Collins. I stopped walking. The guest room door was open a tiny crack. Just a sliver of light coming out.I told myself not to look. My brain said walk away. My heart said look.I leaned down and looked through the crack.I wish I didn't.Robb was on the bed. He was not wearing a shirt. Shae was on top of him, wearing only my white silk robe. The one I left in my bathroom yesterday. She was kissing his neck and laughing."God, I hated seeing you have to hug that cow downstairs," Shae whispered.
Cynthia I stared into the full-length mirror and I couldn't breathe. The dress was bright pink. Shiny satin. It was cutting into my skin. It clung to every part of my body I hate the most. My love handles. My round stomach. My thick thighs. I am ninety-five kilograms now.I hated what I saw.My breasts were full and the dress pressed tight against them, flattening them to my chest. "Oh my God, Cynthia, stop fidgeting! You look so stunning!" Shae said behind me.I turned my head and saw Shae Collins in the mirror. My best friend since I was six years old. She was wearing a sleek dark blue gown that flowed over her thin body like water. She looked perfect. She always looks perfect. She brought me this pink dress this morning. She wrapped it in gold paper and said it was her special birthday gift for me. She insisted it would look better on me than anything else I had picked to wear. "I don't know, Shae," I whispered. My hands were hovering over my stomach, trying to cover it. "It's s
