ALICE

I took in the cool, fresh breeze that blew past me as I turned my body slightly. A sharp ache throbbed across my lower back, but the lingering warmth in the air kept me clinging to the spot for a moment longer.

The second my mind caught up to where I was, my eyes snapped wide open. The bright morning light pouring down from the sky hit my face, forcing me to shield my eyes with my palm. I sat up quickly, looking around the patio before my gaze landed on the cause of that warmth beside me.

DEVONThe sound of a ticking clock echoed in my ear as I turned over on the bed. My eyes were still closed, but I wondered where the noise was coming from. It sounded like a fast countdown beating right beside my head, loud and sharp in the quiet room.My eyes snapped open and I stood up from the bed, looking around to check where the sound had been coming from. The bedroom was completely quiet. Sunlight poured through the wide window, landing on the empty spot on the bed. I looked over towards Alice direction and saw that she was still asleep and the clock in the room could not have suddenly became very loud.I shook my head, realizing that the sharp ticking sound must have been a figment of my imagination, a strange remnant left behind by a bad dream.I shifted my arms and looked down at my wrist. My heart stopped for a second. The glow on the timer on my skin was different. I blinked, staring down at the glowing numbers to make sure my mind was not playing tricks on me. The number

ALICE I reached up, my fingers trailing along his jawline before sliding into his hair. "Moreover, it's been a stressful day for the both of us," I whispered, holding his gaze without backing down. "You're right," Devon mumbled before he leaned down and captured my lips again, his mouth pressing against mine with a deep, slow hunger. I kissed him back, the tension from the day fading away, leaving only the warmth of his body pressed against mine. As we continued to kiss, Devon moved his hand down my side, his palm warm against my skin. His fingers slid down my thighs, playing with the hem of my dress. He pulled his lips back to mine, his hot breath brushing against my mouth. "I have gotten so used to having moments like this with you," he mumbled, his voice low and deep in his chest. "I am getting to the point where I don't even want to be careful with you anymore." A small laugh left my throat, a warm smile touching my lips as I looked up into his eyes. "You are already used to

ALICEA soft smile left Devon's lips and he looked away from me before he looked back. "I hope it will end soon," he muttered, brushing his hair back with his hand. "Dominic and his dad are a tough pair. It is crazy how far they are willing to go just to protect their reputation."I laughed, rolling my eyes. "Very annoying. I just can't wait for the world to finally see who they truly are."Devon stood up from the couch and made his way to where I was sitting, taking a seat next to me. I shifted a little on the mattress to give him space, and he smiled. "I think we should stop talking about them and enjoy this moment together."A soft smile left my lips, even though deep within me I felt the urge to tell him about Dominic's post. It was obvious he still hadn't seen it yet. "Devon," I started, turning my body to face him on the bed. "Have you checked your phone since we came back? Did you see the post Dominic made about us online?"Devon's brows pulled together as he looked at me. "No

DEVONI stared at the city blurring past, but I just couldn't get my mind off the fact that Dominic's father was behind everything. It wasn't that I was surprised that he was, because he had been my top suspect all along. But I just couldn't get my mind off it.As the car drove down the road, my eyes stayed fixed on the windows of the buildings we passed. The image of the photo Mac found in Alma's house kept flashing in my head. That face was clear. The man in the picture was the same person who tried to kidnap Alice while pretending to be a cab driver, and he was the same man I had seen at the stadium the day I was looking for Alice.A quiet thought began to take form in my mind, one that made my jaw set tight. If this man was the bodyguard of Dominic's father, then Dominic's father's men might also be connected to the man in the shadows who shot me in my past life. The pieces were starting to fit together, but one big question remained unanswered in my head. Why did he do it? Why wo

ALICEI dialed Devon's number, and he picked up on the second ring."Alice, are you okay?" Devon asked the moment he picked the call. "I'm fine," I replied, keeping my voice calm. Walking away towards the other side of the living room while my Mom, Cherry and Brea continued talking. "Can you come pick me up?" "Alright, I'll be on my way soon," Devon said. "Give me few more minutes." "Okay," I told him before the call ended.I put my phone back in my bag and walked back to where my mom was. Brea stood up and walked over to where I was standing near the center of the living room, her eyes wide as she held her phone in her hand."How are you going to go about it?" Brea asked, leaning closer to me so that no one would hear. "Are you going to post it online yourself or would it be a live video?""I don't know yet, but I'll figure it out tomorrow during the game," I told her. Brea bit her lower lip with a nod. "Just let me know if I had to play a part in it."My mother stood up fro

DEVON"This is crazy, man," Mac said as he opened the car door and slid into the space beside me. "I thought all this was just a beef between families, but now someone is dead. This is insane.""Dominic is getting on my nerves," I said, my voice cold and low. I did not raise my voice, but the tone made my driver look up in the mirror before he tapped the screen and started the car toward Alma's place."What do you plan to do now?" Mac asked, turning his head to look at me. "You have to act fast or else he might come for Alice again."I ran my hand through my hair, feeling the weight in my chest. "Alma and I were working on ways to show Dominic's parents real face to the public. We are going to her house now. I need you to help me search for anything she left behind."Mac leaned back against the seat with a long breath. "I hope we find something so this whole thing can end. First it was that strange man at the stadium, then that near death experience on the road." He stopped and looked
