Bad news

KIRA'S POV

It shouldn't happen, not again, not this time that I feel I can make things different. It shouldn't happen please! I bit hard on my nails and gnarled, rushing after my mom.

She started to search for her phone as soon as she got into the room, clearing out her dresser in haste not minding if anything got destroyed in the process.

"Mom.." I called in fear, "let me call him–"

"He won't answer it, he's enough that he's mad at you" she ripposted, throwing her hands everywhere in search of her phone. "I can't find it, where did I keep it?"

My eyes were filled with tears and were so blurry that I couldn't see clearly. I fluttered my eyes at her as soon as an idea occurred to me.

"Let me call your phone so we know where it is," I didn't know why I didn't think about this.

She nodded her head continuously and stared at me interestedly, I brought out my phone from my purse which I had with me, clicked on the dial and we listened with rapt attention to capture where the sound would come from.

Brrrrrrrrrg….. brrrrrrrrrg……

Our heads spun to the same direction and I released the breath I didn't know I was holding;

"hahh.." the phone was right there on the bed and we didn't see it.

My mom picked it up and immediately entered her call log, her fingers scrolled up searching for my Dad's number. Suddenly she stopped to spare me a glance, her brows screeching to a worried frown.

"Why should I call him? I can't remember what the issue was?" She mumbled twitchingly, suddenly finding the need to ask.

"Pfft…" a scoff brushed past my lips and I walked to her, filling the gap between us. My hands rested on her shoulders and I fetched her a worried face.

"Something terrible is gonna happen to them if you don't call them to come back, don't you understand?" My brows were drawn.

She nodded slowly and dialed his number, the phone rang for minutes but there was no answer thus arousing the tension in the room. I could literally feel my fingers crawl into my mouth as I tried to stifle a cry.

No, I shouldn't cry just yet else mom will notice and then start with the questions again.

"Hell–scrsk–" a voice came on but got interrupted due to bad connection.

I peeked my eyes at my mom, passing her a questionable look.

"I can't hear anything," she replied to me before I could even ask.

"Keep on talking, they will hear you, tell them to come back, it's urgent!!" I rushed, throwing my hands everywhere as I explained to her.

She nodded and put the phone on speaker, "hello?" Her voice rang, her fingers shaking vehemently as she tightened her hold on the phone.

"Mom?" A familiar voice scaled out and my ears sprang up in alert.

"Amber give the phone to your dad, it's urgent."

"Mom… mom.. "

I hadn't noticed the wave in her voice until she continuously kept on calling 'mom', it was beginning to arouse my fears. What if the accident has happened already and she's the only one safe??

Shittt!!

"Where are you? I need to get there fast where the hell are you guys!!" I shouted at the top of my voice, my head spinning around in circles.

My mom would glance at me and then at the phone, "Amber what happened, are you okay?" She asked in total confusion.

"The car fell on me– I-I can't move.. please help me" she whimpered and that was the only confirmation I needed.

"Make sure the phone doesn't go off, I will find you."

Dammit!!

I shouldn't have gone to see Leila first, I should have stayed behind and stopped dad. It's all my fault that all this is happening. Is this how I ruin my second chance?

Urgh…...

My nails sank into my hair and I felt a tear prick my cheek. I had better hurry up to save them, they will only die when I don't try. With this I hurried out of the room, grabbed my car key and jumped into the car.

"Kira, open up!" My mom shouted out to me and I wind down to look at her.

"Mom, I love you and want you to stay alive. Please go back inside and sit still, don't try to do anything until I come back"

"What do you–"

"Please, do this for me. I love you" I said and drove out of the palace with full speed.

My eyes flung to the GPS tracker and I heaved a sigh. Just two minutes apart from them.

"Dad, Amber I'm coming to save you." I muttered under my breath and increased the speed.

"You've reached your destination" the programmed voice of the GPS informed me and I quickly pulled to a stop.

It was a lonely street which looked somehow deserted, I scanned my eyes around but there was no sign of them.

With skimpy breaths I picked up my phone and started calling Amber line. My ears went on alert waiting to capture any sound but the phone rang for minutes and I couldn't hear a thing nor was the call answered.

"Fucker!!" I hissed gruffly as I stepped out of the car. "Amber!!" I shouted her name but it was just as silent as it had been.

Not wanting to panic yet, I walked lengths into the road and noticed a slight brush on the edge of the main road.

It wasn't that obvious but as I took a closer look I noticed there were dried stains of blood on a certain spot. I rubbed my finger on it and brought it to my nose, checking if I've smelt something of such before.

My nose instantly jerked up, sniffing around for human scent. The smell was suddenly so strong and the more I walked away from the road the stronger it became.

I strained my neck around and stared at the bush, my eyes narrowed back to the broken edge and I dived into a quick maths.

If there was a brush at the edge it only meant that the car was coming from here, my eyes flashed to my car and I smiled seeing it was parked in the same direction.

What if Dad and Amber were going out and then something tampered with their car, probably an animal ran past and while trying to avoid running over it the driver swerved to the left and stumbled upon the rough edges of the road and went flying into the bush…

The bush!

My eyes boggled out. That was where the smell was coming from, definitely. I gave my head a light tap and ran into the bush, stomping over dried grass.

"Amber!!" I freaked the moment I laid eyes on her.

"Amber, are you okay??" I quivered, running towards her.

Her eyes were heavily huge, they most be tired of crying. I ran my eyes all over her body and didn't know when a whimper escaped me. It was a horrible sight.

As much as I tried to keep my tears away I couldn't stop my clacking teeths threatening to tear my lips asunder.

"Dad-d.. Kira.. sav—e us.. s" she counted her words, her lips barely moving due to the many cuts on them.

I nodded my head frailly at her and sniveled, getting back on my feets. I walked over the car and saw my Dad, his head stuck out the tinted glass with parts of the glass stuck to his neck.

I staggered back in pain and fell down on my knees, "moon Goddess, help me! I don't know how to solve this!" I cried, shouting into the sky.

Just then my phone made a beeping sound and I hurriedly brought it out to check who it was. It was mom.

"Kira, have you found them?"

"mom… " I broke into tears as soon as I heard her voice.

I couldn't bring myself to say anything, how do I go about explaining to her that her husband is dead and Amber was just about to lose her legs.

How do I tell a mother that she shouldn't try to do anything because it was bound to happen? How???

If only I was there to stop it on time, I ruined my chances, I freaking ruined it!!!

"Kira, can you hear me? Send me your location and I will send the medicals there as soon as I can" she rushed, her voice laced with concern and worry.

"They're not gonna make it" I cried even more. "I caused it, I knew it was gonna happen but I did nothing."

"Kira, listen to me, that's not important right now, tell me where you are and I will be there before you know it. Please, I beg of you… "

"Okay" I sniffled. "I will text you the location now."

I hung up and texted her the details but as I proceeded to click send tears gathered around my eyes blinding my vision and as I pushed my hand to wipe them off my phone slipped, falling directly on its face.

"No, no no!!" My eyes widened with bewilderment, fucking no!

I bent to pick it up from the floor and felt my heart squeezed. The screen was broken beyond repair, it was as if all my nemesis were befalling on me all at once.

Suddenly the phone made a beeping sound, it was my ringing tone and must probably be mom calling to ask why I haven't sent her the location.

"Fucking kill me! Arghh… "

"Help me… pleas.." a pale voice mumbled accompanied with a small stomp on the car.

A voice I later realized to be Amber's. I guess I was so carried away with my emotions that I didn't even think about them. All I was focused on was how much of a failure I was.

I took quick steps towards Amber and crouched to her level, smiling weakly at her.

"Bear the pains and no matter what keep your eyes open" I whispered to her ear and wiped off the blood dripping down her nose.

"How's dad? He's not dead right?" I ignored her but she held my leg causing me to look at her.

"I've been trying to get him to talk to me but he isn't saying anything" her eyes flickered and I searched for a word to say but there was none.

I let the tears flow down freely and rubbed her hair soothingly, "he's fine, he asked me to save you." My heart tightened against my chest and I stood up immediately, hiding my tears from her.

In my past life I was a weak and slow witted woman but I want to be different now. For my family, I need to be strong and be able to pull this off.

Taking one last glance at the car I made a decision, Amber will get out without losing any of her legs and My Dad will receive a befitting burial without any of his body parts missing.

"Ayla, are you ready?" I said to my wolf and she made a grudging noise. "Better late than never" I told her and shoved my hands under the car, "arghh….." I shouted at the top of my voice, letting out a blaring sound.

Al of a sudden I felt a strange power envelope me, giving me a kind of strength I've never experienced. Before I could figure out what was happening the car was already up.

It was still a surprise to me and I looked around to see if maybe anyone had join hands with me in pulling it up.

It didn't just go up itself did it?

It was just too easy and left me baffled. Not wanting to draw too much thought into it as I had a bigger problem already I looked down at Amber.

"Can you move? Like crawl?" My hands were still holding tight to the car, so there was no way I could possibly carry her out.

"I will try," she mumbled softly and I nudged her on. "Hhhhh… " she took skimpy breaths, squeezing her face as she used her hands to pull herself out.

"Easy, you're doing it, keep pushing" I said cooely, making sure my hold on the car doesn't slacken.

"I can't move further, my leg is stuck–"

My breath hitched, fear welled up in my chest, fury twisted inside of me nearly suffocating me. And I shouted out of a sudden;

"your wolf, shift into your wolf Amber!"
