Death

Kira's pov

I didn't know when I let out, "try to shift it might help!"

"I wish I could, Kira but I'm so weak. I can't even feel my feets" she said weakly, tears rolling down her cheeks.

Yeah. I pushed my lips into my mouth and muffled a breath. Why didn't I think about that, she had bruises all over her body there's definitely no way she would ever shift.

What should I do?

"Can't you just try? Ther-there's no harm in trying you know.." I couldn't believe I was saying that but that was all that could come up in my tiny head at that moment.

She wriggled her face in pain, squirming and twisting her body as she tried to shift into her wolf.

"Ooouuu…… " she let out a howling cry, her body twisted unnatural and her fingers bent backwards, her claws spooking out of her nails.

My eyes glimmered as I watched her shifting but they soon watered, the glimmer fading away.

"What happened?" A sudden gasp braced my lips.

"I c-can't! I told you, I'm weak. I can't shift into my wolf Kira–" her voice broke into tiny waves.

Oh come on!

I was so happy minutes ago now this happened! Urgh…..

I ranked my head for ideas but none was forthcoming, I had to do something quick. My hold on the car was slowly slipping and it might actually fall down any moment from now.

"Amber–" I called as an idea occurred to me. "You are with dad's phone right?" She nodded palely and I continued;

"Call mom and put the phone on speaker, quickly, I'm losing my hold on the car." I said in one gulp.

She mumbled an 'okay' and crawled back, dipping her hand into the car, minutes later she brought out the phone and dialed mom's number.

The phone beeped for a while and a voice resounded from the other end. Instantly, I brought my head down and Amber struggled to keep the phone up.

"Honey how are you guys? Are you okay? Where are you? Where is your father?" She asked affectionately, bombarding us with questions the minute she picked the call.

A sigh erupted from my throat, "mom, just track the location of this phone.. " I spoke as soon as I heard her voice, ignoring her questions.

"Kira! Amber!" She exclaimed. "Thank the goddess you guys are okay, please tell me where you are so I can help." She whimpered, her tone heavy with worry.

"I will be with you soon, my babies" she sniffled and hung up, silence befalling on us once again.

Amber threw me a scaredy face and I felt my whole being rivolts. "Where's daddy.. do something please" —her eyes glistened with tears forming underneath them.

My lips crumbled against each other and I let out a sharp sigh, looking around for nothing in particular. I won't lie, Amber was making things really frustrating for me, her constant whinings were digging a hole inside my heart.

Seeing her stuck to the car in so much pain broke me to the bones. It bleeds my heart to not be of any help to my loved ones, it was heart wrenching. It was as if my heart was carrying a bag of beans.

Still I didn't rest, not even for a minute, my brain was already wheezing as I was literally overusing it.

Slowly, I let the car slip out of my hands and guarded it down so it doesn't affect the people inside. Having done that, I fell on my knees and crawled into the spot that Amber's leg was stuck to.

I had collected Dad's phone from her so I could make use of the flashlight. I stretched my hand to the places I could not reach.

My hands felt something silky and I pointed the light there and lol and behold it was part of Amber's dress. The dress was long and was the problem all along.

The dress was crossing over her legs in a way that she couldn't move until she untied it and also got hooked in the driver's seat thus making her stuck to the car.

And here I was thinking something heavy in the car had fallen on top of her legs. Tsk… I hissed momentarily, crawling out of the car.

Her eyes peeled weekly at me when I walked past her, probably thinking I was leaving her. How would I ever do that?

I walked over to the car trunk and tried to open it but it was locked, hissing gruffly I gave it a kick and it flew open spilling everything inside due to the manner with which the car had fallen.

My fingers tossed out the useless equipment, throwing them away until they laid on a scissors.

Ahhh! Just what I needed.

I traced my way back to the car and used the scissors to cut off the part that was stuck to the car.

Mindlessly, I mumbled, "try to move."

She did as I asked and a small smile crossed my face when she successfully crawled out.

She rested her weight on her hands and pulled herself out. "Thank you… I thought I would really die–" she said, gasping for breath.

"No, thank you–" I shivered, crawling out to meet her. "For staying alive," I sniveled, tucking some disturbing strands of hair behind my ear.

"I love you, Kira.. I love–" tears gathered in her eyes threatening to fall down.

My face softened a bit as I felt her temperature, "come here." I sniffled, enveloping her into a warm hug.

Her hair brushes softly on my chest and I felt her throbbing heart. She must have been really scared, I'm glad I saved her.

Pulling her out of the hug I said reassuringly to her face, "you're safe now, mom will be here in no time and you will be taken to the hospital were you will be attended to, okay?"

"O-okay.." her breath hitched as she nodded.

I ruffled her hair playfully to stir the moment, she chuckled softly a glint of pain running past her eyes. I didn't know what it was so I shoved it off with the thoughts; she must be tired and also worried about Dad.

Yes dad. Is he okay?

His pulse was faint when I first checked on him, what if he's really dead? No no no, can't be.. I ruffled my hair tiredlessly.

Just then lights shone at us, it was mid evening so I guess the need for it.

Screeches….. crackles…

Then nothing. I looked over my shoulders, my heart skipped two beats, what made that noise? My hand immediately held Amber's at impulse, my neck twirling back and forth.

Yet nothing. It was so eerie that even the crickets' annoying sounds stopped. I felt Amber's grip tighten and I passed her a warming look.

"Stay here, I will look around" I cooed and her eyes watered in fear. I gave her one last assuring nod and tip-toed to the direction the lights had come from.

My eyes fell on a rusty tree branch, I picked it up and walked slowly, my fingers tightly clung around the branch.

Fleeks… .fleeks…

My ear captured an incoming sound and I quickly hid behind a tree. The sounds became near, it sounded like humans stepping aggressively on dead leaves.

My fears lessened a bit for I knew it wasn't an animal but a human and considering how prepared I was I believed I could take whomever it is down.

My fingers held even tighter as I lifted the branch up, ready to strike. The shadow became closer and as I raised it sideways ready to strike a familiar voice shouted causing me to make a quick halt.

"Kira! It's me!"

My hands paused in the air as I fixed her a sharp glare, "mom?" I hissed under my breath and she walked out if the dark, behind her were huge men.

"Baby–"

"Mom!" I screamed in delight, jumping into her hands. She swooshed my hair softly and pulled out of the hug, staring into my face.

"Where is your father.."

The smile on my face faded into a sullen one. She understood instantly and brushed past me in a swift move, running into the bush.

I ran my hand on my head and groaned, having no choice than to run after her. She was already on her knees, wailing when I got there.

The meds started making some calls and more of them rushed into the scene with a stretcher. They placed Amber on it and rolled her into a van, some men joined hands together and lifted the car but it fell as soon as they succeeded.

"Don't die on me please… no… " she cried, clutching her chest in pain.

I couldn't stand the sight anymore so I forced my legs to meet her.

"Mom– I'm sorry… " were the only words I could mutter.

My hands held her from behind, wrapping her with myself, I cried even louder. Bitter sweats running into my mouth.

"Call for help," one of the men shouted to the others, snatching my attention.

I stood up from the floor, walking towards them. "Woman, we are working here, i understand how much pain you are goi–"

I shoved him aside and bent down, placing my hands under the car, "let's pull." I ordered, sneering at their baffled looks.

They murmured amongst themselves and finally came forward to join me. Truth was I wasn't really in need of more hands but I didn't want to arouse unnecessary attention to myself.

"One, two go.." we pulled the car up and the men cheered.

The meds brought their first aid box and worked on the glass that pierced my dad's neck.

I threw my face away as they attended to his wounds. After some minutes they carried him out and rolled him into the van.

Another man whom I soon recognized to be my father's most trusted driver was also rolled out. He wasn't among the lucky ones, the meds confirmed him dead.

My mom followed them into the van crying her eyes out, I wanted to follow them and stay with her but seeing how pathetic my mom was I knew I couldn't tag along.

The car was about to move when I heard my name, it was my mom. She wanted to know why I didn't get in with them.

I sighed and said, "I brought my car." She nodded in tears and the van doors closed.

A sigh of relief erupted from my throat and I threw my hands to my waist watching them leave. I stood fixated on that spot until the van was out of sight.

Now I have to uncover this mystery, the accident happened for a reason, probably someone plotted it. I was sure of that.

Curiosity they say kills the rat, I retraced my steps back to the car searching for nothing in particular. I looked around for a long time and finally found something.

My eyes settled on the tampered wires under the car. They were cut open and made sparking sounds every now and then.

My curiosity increased, with my eyes focusing on them I picked a stick from the ground and used it to divide the wires, tracing them to where they lead to.

My mouth flew open when I figured it out. Fucking tampered with the brake and fuse!!

 Who on earth did this!!!

Anger welled up in my chest, causing tumors to grow deep inside of me.

This isn't just about me, my enemies are much more than I think. Who would have done this?

I gnarled my teeths, seething inwardly.

I will definitely find that person and the moon goddess would bear me witness when I draw my claws over their necks.

They will surely die a painful death, one that would make them cry for mercy even in their graves.

Arghhhh!!!

"Hmph… hmph… " I sniffed. The atmosphere was suddenly smelling bad like a burning ti—

Booom!!!!!!!!

A deafening noise accompanied with a strong force whisked me to a tree root, giving me yet another thunderous throw that I felt my nimbs broke.

I spun my head around to see what it was but my eyes were suddenly too lazy and slowly darkness engulfed me.
