“Andrew, get away from him!”

My scream filled the control room, but Andrew couldn't hear me. On the monitor, the man in the gray coat tightened his grip around Andrew's wrist.

The others who had accompanied my ex-husband were already running toward the road, abandoning their bags and each other in their desperate attempts to escape.

Andrew was not lucky, he tried to get away from the stranger but nothing worked. Then something black slipped from the stranger's mouth.

I stared in horror as it c

“Turn off the cameras,” Keith ordered.I glanced at him. “Why?”“Because whatever is out there can see us watching it, we need to stop giving it information.”Lucas stood behind us, his face pale. “You expect us to believe that?”Keith didn't look at him. “Believe whatever keeps you alive. Just stay away from the door.”I reached for the control panel and switched off the hallway feed. The three figures vanished from the screen, but their presence remained in my mind.“What now?” I asked.“We leave.”I turned toward him. “Leave where?”“My safehouse.”I stared at him as though he had suggested we walk into the freezing darkness without protection. “You want me to abandon my house?”“I want you to survive.”“This house is fortified, I have supplies, security systems, and enough resources to last for months.”“And you also have something inside it that can imitate people, bypass your security, and enter through places you thought were secure.” His voice remained controlled, but there wa

  • Reborn Seven Days Before Doomsday    Which one is Keith?

My gaze moved between them. The man on the left had a small cut above his eyebrow. His dark jacket was damp, and his breathing was heavier than usual. But the man on the right looked exactly the same, down to the expression on the other's face."Don't move!" the man on the left ordered."Get away from him, Irene!" the one on the right shouted.I didn't move and Lucas stood between us, trembling. This was a very tricky situation, it caused me to close my eyes for a second before opening it."Which one of you is real?" I demanded."He's the imitation," the man on the left answered. The other man chuckled, the way Keith had done once. "Yeah, I knew he'd say that."Both voices sounded alike, it was hard to differentiate them. I raised my weapon and pointed it at the floor between them."Neither of you takes another step."The man on the left looked at me. "Irene, listen to me. I've been with you since I entered this house, you know me.""And you," I said, turning toward the other one, "wh

Keith raised his weapon. “Stop there.”“Please don't shoot.” Lucas stopped in his track.I stared at my brother, unable to reconcile the man standing before me with the figure I'd watched on the security cameras earlier. His eyes looked normal, but that didn't mean I was going to trust him.“How did you get inside?” I demanded.Lucas looked at me, relief flashing across his face. “Irene, thank God you're safe.”“Answer my question.”“I found the passage.”“That's impossible. Keith said it was sealed from the other end.” I countered him.“Then he was wrong.”Keith's expression hardened. “Watch your mouth.”Lucas glanced at him. “Who the hell are you, anyway? Why are you pointing a gun at me in my sister's house?”“Because you appeared inside a supposedly secured property without warning, and neither of us knows what you've been exposed to.” Keith said in a calm voice.“I'm her brother!”“Does that make you trustworthy?”Lucas looked at me, apparently expecting me to defend him but I di

We need to get out before that thing comes looking for us.”“Leave my house?” I pulled my arm from his grasp. “Are you serious?”“Have you seen what just happened outside?”“Yes, Keith! I just watched my ex

“How did Andrew find my house?”That was the only thought running through my mind as I stared at the security monitor. He was still holding up the picture and tapping on his phone. When my phone vibrated again, my hands trembled in fear.Andrew: Open the gate, Irene. We need to talk.I ignored the message, trying to think about how to handle this new situation. The only luck I had was that all my supplies were in my storage space, but it was still too dangerous to let him get a hold of me.Another message entered my phone.Andrew: Don't make me do something you'll regret.I laughed out loud even though I was not feeling good, Andrew had threatened me so many times in my previous life that the words no longer frightened me.What frightened me was the possibility that he might kill me. The thought of dying was something I could not imagine.I switched to the front camera, but the porch was empty. Lucas and Sophia were gone. I didn't know whether Sophia was dead or Lucas had dragged her a

Lucas had been standing in front of the door moments ago. The camera had shown him disappearing when the feed went black, so how did he get behind Sophia without her noticing?“This had not happened before,” I muttered to myself. The great freeze was the only disaster that had struck back then, but it seemed like there was something much bigger happening now.Why was Lucas' eyes all white?“Keith,” I whispered into my phone. “There's something outside my house.”“I can tell that much from how you sound, what do you see?”“My brother is standing behind his girlfriend, but something is wrong with him.”“What do you mean?”“His eyes,” I took a deep breath in. “They don't look human.”“Why would you say something like that? Is he moving, Irene?” “No.” I said as soon as he asked.“Is his chest moving?”I watched the monitor and to my fear, Lucas's chest wasn't moving. “Not that I can see.”“Get away from the door, Irene.”Sophia was still pulling at the handle. “Please!
