Lana Mayas

“Thank you, Miss Mayas. We will get back to you through a message or phone call.”

“Thank you, ma'am.” I bowed gently as I stood up. I couldn't even see the interviewer's face because the space between us was covered by a white board.

“You're welcome. Have a wonderful day.”

She replied as I left. By the time I got outside, the next person for the interview was already walking in. I looked around the place, but there was still no sign of the guy I bumped into.

Could it be that something came up and he had to leave?

Remembering how he called me his short girlfriend made me smile and worry at the same time. He's probably the first friend I've made here. I know calling someone I accidentally met a friend is a bit too much, but what else can I call him? Besides, I don't even know his real name.

Knowing that he missed the interview made me feel bad because I had no idea what happened or why he didn't make it. I decided to spend the rest of the day here until the interviews were over. I don't know why, though. Maybe a part of me was still hoping to see him.

Since I had already finished my interview, I couldn't wait inside anymore, so I sat on one of the benches outside.

The sun was bright and scorching. It was the kind of heat that felt like it could literally peel someone's skin off. Resting my back against the bench, I realized I was thirsty and exhausted. Deciding to rest for a few minutes, I closed my eyes.

I don't know what happened next, but I dozed off.

The cold chill against my skin probably woke me up.

I opened my eyes only to realize it was already dark.

“Shit...!” I gasped and tried to stand up, only to feel something hovering above my head.

I slowly looked up.

An umbrella.

Grabbing it, I realized it wasn't some random umbrella. It was black and looked expensive. You could tell it cost a lot just by looking at it. The golden handle, the button mechanism, and the thick fabric all gave it away.

I looked around, but there was no one in sight. Matter of fact, the only person I knew here was the guy I bumped into, and he had already left that afternoon.

Wait...

A thought suddenly crossed my mind.

Could this be Magnus' doing?

Just the thought of it made my blood boil.

It has to be him. There's no other explanation.

The once beautiful umbrella suddenly became ugly in my eyes. I had planned to take it home, but the moment I thought it belonged to Magnus, I couldn't imagine keeping anything that belonged to him.

I grabbed my bag angrily and started to leave.

I hadn't even walked five meters before I stopped.

Reluctantly, I turned around and stared at the umbrella, which was still resting on the bench.

What if it wasn't Magnus?

Who says it had to be that godforsaken idiot?

There are plenty of people who would choose to be a good Samaritan.

Walking back to the bench, I picked up the umbrella and continued on my way.

As I walked down the road, thunder rumbled in the clouds. The wind grew stronger, and tiny droplets of rain began to fall.

I quickened my pace because I was still quite far from the bus station. I didn't have money for an Uber, so I had to take the bus. Right now, though, I was more afraid of the rain that was about to pour.

A taxi suddenly stopped right in front of me.

I tried to walk past it and ignore it, but it looked like it had stopped for me, so I slowed down.

“Hello, ma'am. Your ride is here.”

The driver rolled down his window and spoke to me.

“I'm sorry, you've got the wrong person. I didn't call for a taxi.”

I started walking again.

“Aren't you Miss Lana Mayas?”

Hearing my name, I stopped and turned around.

“Who booked you?”

“Someone. I was asked to take you home.”

The rain had already started pouring heavily. I had no choice but to get in.

I noticed that after everything that happened in my past life, I had developed a fear of rain.

I could still remember that night so clearly.

The rain had been pouring heavily when the accident happened.

“We're here,” the driver said.

“Oh.”

I looked out the window and realized we had arrived home.

I got out of the car and was about to leave when I decided to ask him one more question.

“Can I ask who asked you to pick me up?”

“Uhm... I don't know. I was only booked to take you home. That's all, ma'am. Have a good night.”

The driver smiled politely before driving away.

I dragged my tired feet into the house.

“You're back so late,” my mother's worried voice greeted me.

“Hmm. I waited for a friend, but I still couldn't find him. I'm tired, Mum. Good night.”

I dragged my exhausted body upstairs.

“I made dinner!”

“Tomorrow, Mum. I'll have it tomorrow.”

My feet felt heavy.

My eyes burned with exhaustion.

The moment I entered my room, my bag dropped onto the floor, and my body collapsed onto the bed.

The instant I closed my eyes, everything went blank.

“Wake up, Lana. Your phone has been ringing.”

“Lana, wake up.”

“Lana!”

I kept hearing my mum's distant voice.

I felt her place something in my hand before pressing it against my ear.

“I already answered the call for you. You can talk to whoever it is.”

“Hello, is this Miss Lana Mayas?”

“Hmmmmm...”

“Good. Congratulations. I'm calling from MOLKOV DE VOK HOTEL to inform you that you have been offered the position of personal assistant to our new CEO. You are to resume tomorrow for the final interview.”

“Huh...?!” I shot upright in bed as every trace of sleep disappeared.

“Per... per... personal assistant?”

“Yes, ma'am. Congratulations once again. We hope to see you tomorrow.”

The call ended.

Wait...

What just happened?

Am I hallucinating?

Or dreaming?

I punched myself.

Ouch... that hurts.

I'm not dreaming.

Then how the hell was I chosen to become the personal assistant to the CEO?

I didn't even apply for that.

I only applied for the position of auxiliary helper in the hotel.

Lana Mayas“Mrs. Mayas?”“Yes, ma'am,” I answered respectfully, my hands clasped in front of me as I looked at the lady seated behind the office desk. She was dressed in a black suit, looking exquisite and formidable. You could tell at a glance that she wasn't the type to entertain nonsense. She looked to be in her mid-forties. On the nameplate resting on her desk was the inscription:The Managing Director. She adjusted her glasses and raised her head, her gaze meeting mine.“Why do you want to work at Molkov De Vok Hotel?”“Experience, ma'am. It has always been my dream to become a hotelier.”“Hmmm.” She nodded. “Do you have any previous experience?”Of course I don't.Taking a deep breath, I quietly shook my head.“I see.” She returned her gaze to her computer and typed for a few moments before looking up again. This time, she slowly removed her glasses.“The CEO was recently transferred here from our branch in Germany. He's not just some regular or ordinary CEO. He's a man of few w

I whispered, covering my mouth."No. Why?""Because almost everyone else here has one."Hearing my words, his eyes roam

LanaMy head felt heavy. The scent of disinfectant lingered everywhere, and the beeping sound of a monitor behind me was loud. I fought to open my eyes, which was hard at first because all I could see was darkness. But slowly, my vision began to clear, and the first thing my eyes caught was the white ceiling.I felt a movement beside me and turned to see a pretty lady in white doing something nearby.“You're awake.”She flashed me a smile as I tried to sit up on the bed.“Where am I?” were the first words that left my mouth.Confusion washed over me as I held my head, trying to remember what had happened, but everything seemed so vague, like my mind had gone numb.“You're in the hospital. You were brought in two days ago and have been unconscious.”“Two days?!” I gasped in shock.“Yes, two days. You were brought in by Mr. Dante Mo...”I didn't wait to listen to her. I immediately got down from the bed.“What are you doing?” Her eyes widened in surprise as I disconnected the drip attach
