Ayla's pov

Thorne broke eye contact with me, but the anger was still tight in his face. "Now is not a good time."

"It's important," Caius insisted, giving a small bow. "About our... alliance. About the future."

Thorne finally nodded, his jaw so tight I thought it might crack. "Fine. My study. Five minutes. No more."

Caius nodded and left. Thorne turned back to me, his voice low and dangerous. "This isn't over. We will continue this discussion later. Don't think you've won."

He walked out, leaving me standing there, my appetite gone, the food tasting like dust in my mouth.

About an hour later, Thorne returned to the main hall where the last guests were finishing their breakfast. His face was a mask—I couldn't read anything on it.

"Everyone," he announced, his voice strong and clear, carrying through the room. "I have news. Alpha Caius and I have reached an agreement. To strengthen ties between our packs, to build a stronger future, we will visit the Bloodfang Pack in two

  • Reborn as a dragon Queen    Chapter 37: The Cage of Sweet Words

Ayla’s POV My heart was a wild drum in my chest. Thorne’s face was too close. The stars above were just points of light in his cold, dark eyes. His thumb rubbed my cheek. It was not a soft touch. It felt like he was checking an object he owned. He whispered that I could trust him. For one short breath, I almost did. The truth pushed at my lips. Tower. Poison. It would be easy to say it. To let his anger burn my troubles away. But I bit my tongue. Hard. I tasted blood. I could not tell him. He would not listen. He would only act. He would smash things apart. And the real enemy, the shadow woman, would slip away, laughing. No. I had to be smarter than his rage. I had to catch the snake myself, before it bit us all. So I gave him a different worry. A small one. I let my eyes get wet. “It’s the trip,” I whispered, making my voice small and weak. “To the Bloodfang Pack. The stories… they say they are cruel. " His face changed. The fake care melted away. A smug smile touched his lips

  • Reborn as a dragon Queen    Chapter 36: The Threat in the Dark

Ayla's POV Maddie stared at me. Her green-glowing eyes were huge in the dark room. They looked like two sick moons. It was like watching a storm cloud cover the sun. All the color washed away from her cheeks. She went white as fresh milk. Her mouth pulled into a tight, thin line. Her eyes got hard and mean. They looked like little green stones. “so tell me,” she said. The word was a hiss.. “What are you doing here? Snooping around where you don’t belong?” I felt Eren move behind me. He was like a small, solid shield at my back. His quiet breath gave me strength. But I knew I had to stand alone for this. I stepped forward. I made my voice steady. I made it the voice of the Luna. “I am the Luna,” I said, the words clear in the quiet. “I belong everywhere in this pack. Every stone. Every hallway. Every room.” I paused and let my eyes sweep over the awful things on the shelves. “A better question is, what are you doing here, Maddie? In this dark, secret place? With this… this bad

  • Reborn as a dragon Queen    chapter 35: Dark magic

Ayla's pov One was Maddie. Her pretty face looked hard and serious in the greenish light. The other was a woman in a long, dark cloak, the hood pulled up to hide her face. “You are sure you were not followed?” the cloaked woman asked. Her voice was smooth, but cold. Like a stone from a deep, dark well. “Of course,” Maddie snapped, but she glanced nervously at the door. “No one comes here. They’re all scared of this place. And Cain is keeping Thorne busy with reports until tomorrow.” My blood ran cold. They had planned Thorne’s absence. “Good,” the woman said. She moved to the table and picked up a small glass vial. Inside it swirled a liquid so black it seemed to suck the light into it. She held it out to Maddie. “This is the next step. The final brew.” Maddie took it carefully, as if it were a live snake. “How much?” “Just three drops. In her evening tea. Every night, for three nights.” Maddie nodded, staring at the dark vial. The woman’s voice dropped to a cruel

At dinner that night, something changed. Thorne didn’t sit at the head of the long table like he usually did. He sat right beside me. “This is a nice surprise,” I said as he sat down. “I thought I’d keep my Luna company,” he said, pouring wine into my glass. His hand lingered on mine longer than necessary. Lord Cain, sitting across from us, watched with narrowed eyes. Maddie, a few seats down, looked like she was chewing on something sour. “The trip to Bloodfang will require careful planning,” Thorne said, his voice loud enough for everyone to hear. “My Luna will need new gowns. The finest fabrics. She must look every bit the queen she is.” “That seems excessive,” Cain said smoothly. “It’s just a political visit.” “It’s a show of strength,” Thorne corrected, his hand now resting on the back of my chair. “And my Luna is part of that strength. Isn’t that right, my love?” The endearment surprised me. I nodded, I didn't know what he was planning, with this unusual niceness so

  • Reborn as a dragon Queen    Chapter 32: Fire and Consequences

Ayla's POVMy anger was a living fire in my veins, burning hot and bright. I didn't walk to Maddie's chambers paying no attention to Wren's pleas. I stormed through the castle halls like a wildfire. My feet pounded the stone floors so hard the sound echoed. Servants saw me coming and jumped out of my way, their eyes wide with fear. I didn't bother knocking. I pushed her door open so hard it slammed against the wall with a loud crack.Maddie was sitting at her fancy dressing table, brushing her long hair. She saw me in the mirror first, and a smug smile spread across her face before she even turned around."Luna," she said sweetly, putting down her brush. "To what do I owe this visit? You usually don't come to see me.""Where are my weapons?" My voice was low and dangerous, like the growl of a beast. She turned slowly in her chair, that smile never leaving her face. "Oh, those dangerous things? I had them removed. For your own safety, of course. A Luna shouldn't play with swords and k
