Chapter 3
ROWENA'S POV"Working in a coffee shop was a lot harder than I expected," I thought, as I walked down the road after work that evening. I had to attend to various kinds of people, and there was one older man that couldn't make up his mind, and it was very frustrating."What can I get you, sir?" I asked with a smile. "A cup of latte please," he replied, and I went to get it for him. After I returned with it, "Did I say latte? I mean iced Americano" he said."Excuse me, sir," I said, raising my voice."You're going to have to pay for the latte I already got.""I made a mistake, all humans make mistakes," he said sentimentally. "I know, sir, but we can't lose because of your errors," I replied calmly, ignoring the rage rising in my throat."It's fine, that's enough," Peter interrupted when the man was about to reply. "I'll pay for it," he added, and that was it.It annoyed me that he decided to be the bigger person but I just kept mute the rest of the day.I kept walking, and I soon approached the local club.I noticed the very unusual crowd and walked to get a closer view of what had everyone so fascinated."Isn't that Eugene?" I asked no one in particular."Oh no!" I whispered. I could see everything and what he was dealing with, yet I couldn't help.Neither could I hold back the tears that stung my eyes so badly.I wanted to walk away.My plan for this century was to live a normal life and try my best not to get involved with Eugene, but I couldn't.I couldn't just leave him there to die. I waited till everything died down and rushed over to help him."Are you okay?" I asked, clutching his head to my chest, though he didn't reply. The funniest thing is that even though I get reborn, I still have the same agility, speed, and wisdom I had while I was a guardian.I guess mother nature showed me some mercy.I carried him with ease and walked quietly to my apartment as the cool breeze filled the atmosphere."Seems like Giselle is brewing spells again," I thought.*************************************"Welcome home, Miss Rowena," a familiar voice whispered."Ah!, you startled me. What are you doing here, Giselle?" I jerked, slowly putting Jaden on my bed. There was nothing spectacular about where I lived.I stayed in a not-so-furnished one storey building."You know, for someone who hasn't seen her sister in years, that wasn't the reception I was expecting," said Giselle."I'm sorry." I rushed over to her with my arms wide open for an embrace. We hugged for a few seconds.Who am I kidding? We hugged for minutes.I don't get to see my sister often."I see you're still doing this. Seriously? You're still doing this whole love thing?" She replied, pointing at Eugene. She was the only one among my sisters that cared to see the man I was crazy about."It's not like I can escape it, can I ?" I replied wryly."What's wrong with him though? Is he drunk or something?""Something like that," I replied and we sat to catch up.We talked for hours about random things, then I decided to ask her about what I heard."Speaking of him, I have something important to ask you," I said, dragging Giselle to the balcony."What's up?" She replied, leaning on the railings."This evening, I was coming back from work...""You work? Hilarious," teased Giselle."Focus! As I was saying, I saw him being tormented by wizards. They said something about Prince Jaden. Do you by any chance know who that is?"I noticed the uneasiness and disbelief on Giselle's face."That's strange, remember the Wizard Counsel?" She began. "I've heard about the wizard counsel, but it's been a very long time ago."I nodded and drew closer to her. This felt like a top secret."Well, thousands of years ago, long before you were born, I was only a child then. The wizard council banished about twenty wizards who called themselves the crucifix. They committed treason by invading the palace and killing the wizard King, his wife, and his son, Prince Jaden, but I don't know if he was ever reborn." "Wait, that actually happened? I thought it was just a myth." I replied in disbelief."But it can't be this Jaden, right?, I've only met normal Eugenes for centuries and how is he bearing the exact same name?" I continued."Stick to one name, Rowena, don't get me confused.""Sorry"."You're right, though, maybe they had the wrong person.""Riiiightt, but....""Where am I?" whispered a voice as we turned around to see a healthy Jaden. All his bruises were gone, I stared in awe."Uhmm, remember me? From the coffee shop, I met you lying unconsciously by the roadside, and I decided to help.""I don't remember you, I only remember going to the club." His eyes were filled with confusion."You mean you don't remember anything else?" I asked further, walking slowly towards him, and he immediately backed away."At all, who's the other girl?" With a suspicious expression on his face, he said."Girl?, Some people just don't know who to respect,"whispered Giselle.Though she was older than I and Clair, she looked the youngest for some reason. She's also the prettiest. My hands were clasped together."That's my sister Gi...Gene... Geneva," I blurted."Ok, thanks for your help. I really appreciate it," he said as he checked the time on his watch."Woah, I have to go, I have to go now. Where's the way out?" He yelled, and I and Giselle pointed in unison."Oh no, the case, the results, my car!" He kept muttering, "It's almost daybreak," till he was out of sight."Seriously? Geneva, you couldn't come up with something a little nicer?" "Come on, I was in a tight spot. How's everyone by the way?" I asked as we walked back into the room."Uhmm, I'm pretty sure they still hate you," replied Giselle, as we both laughed."They sure know how to hold a grudge," I said amidst laughter.*******************************The pain in my head was unbelievable as I slowly opened my eyes. "What happened? Where am I?" I asked myself, and immediately I heard traces of voices and quickly followed.I walked out of the coffee woman's apartment, wondering why I was there in the first place.Yes, I lied. I remember her.But I don't remember anything beyond getting into my car with Stacy.I got a taxi and got to the club, got into my car and headed for work... despite the fact that I hadn't taken a shower.Rowena's povWhen they were done running around, we finally sat down to eat.As we ate, I watched Jaden play with his food. I couldn't blame him because if I were him, I would definitely have a lot of things to ask.Giselle nudged my side with her elbow when she noticed I was staring too much, and I immediately returned my gaze to my food."Are you sure we shouldn't take her to a hospital?" He asked Giselle, like I was not sitting right there.Giselle dropped her fork and violently rolled her eyes at him."Of course we should take her to the hospital and tell them that she got the burns from a bridge hanging over naked flames in the wizard kingdom." She replied dramatically."How do you think that sounds?" She added, and he slowly returned to his food like a kid scolded by his mother."Giselle, calm down," I whispered, and she sneered."But it'll be too painful to let it heal on its own," he stated again.I raised a brow at him, hoping it'd make him shut up and stop triggering Giselle
Jaden's povWhen I was done wallowing in the awe of my new-found abilities, my senses returned, and I bolted. It was impossible to run when I got to the hallway; the place was crowded with people dressed in plaid attire like they were from ancient England. It was a good thing no one knew what I looked like because it made it easy for me to glide through the crowd.I was sweating profusely, my hair was damp, and my underarms felt terrible. I wondered carefully for hours, trying to find an escape route, but for some reason I ended up going back to the place I started from. The prison."Let's go see how our young prince is doing."I heard that awful, familiar voice giggle, and that was when I cornered into a room. I had to find a means of escape, and fast, because it was obviously a matter of minutes before they found out.Immediately, I noticed a bright, blinding light from behind me and shielded my eyes as I turned to look at it.A door had opened, and my heart raced so fast I could hea
Chapter 24Rowena's povGiselle stared at me like I spoke a completely different language. I knew I was about to be a fool for love again, but I couldn't help it; after all, I am cursed."What did you just say?" She blinked."I'll do it," I repeated. I immediately began to walk to the room so I could grab my coat, and she followed me quickly."Let's say you do manage to cross this bridge and get to the other side. How do you expect to rescue him? Do you think you will be in the kind of state to fight wizards?" She yelled, and a realisation hit me.I was so fired up by the fact that the man I was in love with was in danger that I didn't think anything through."Get your shit together, Ro," she added, and I watched her fingers run through her dense hair."So I should just let him get killed?" I asked, and my voice sounded a lot less fierce than I expected it to be. I knew I was scared.Terribly scared."The only sensible thing you've said this evening," she replied. She watched me while
Wizard Kingdom*Writer's pov"Arrrghhh! How could you do this to me, Maximon?"Jaden shrieked in anguish as Maximon, or, should one say, Rafar, tortured him beyond human imagination.Of course, what more was expected of a man who feeds off the cries of pain from whoever falls prey to his deadly trap? The Queen stood graciously at the end of the large room with Gwen and her sister, both of whom didn't enjoy being part of whatever little game they were playing with the prince."Why not just kill him right away and get this done with?" Gwen murmured and looked around to make sure no one heard her.The Queen smiled mischievously as she watched her right-hand man turn the prince into a pauper begging for his life.Rafar walked to Jaden with metal pliers in his hands. Jaden knew the worst was about to happen, and he started to struggle in his chains, but it was fruitless."You will pay dearly for this maxim!" Jaden cried."Rafar, little prince, the name's Rafar. And I do not have any time f
Human world*Rowena's povGiselle and I sat at a table in a popular local bar down the street, and while Giselle kept sipping from her tumbler of beer, I was lost in my thoughts of where exactly Jaden could have gone."It's been hours since he went missing; don't you think it's time we involved the cops?"She stared at me for a while, swallowed the beer she was storing in her mouth for reasons best known to her, and dropped the tumbler."And tell them what?A grown man left the house last night after a little argument, and now we can't find him anywhere, and worse still, his number isn't connecting?" She replied dramatically."You call what happened last night a 'little argument'? You were about to kiss your younger sister's lover, and you call that a 'little argument'!"I was fuming, and flashes of what I saw last night kept replaying in my head as I fought with the urge to pull her hair off of her scalp."Well, if that's how you see it, then it's clearly not my fault that your so-c
Chapter 21Jaden's povAs we drank I told him everything, my undying love to Giselle and the way she rejected me after I kissed her."Who is this Giselle anyways" he asked, taking a sip from the beer in his tumbler."A guardian, you said you know they exist. She's one of them, her sister too. They've been helping me escape the evil twins" I rattled. He smiled at an almost drunk me, nodded slowly before muttering the words, "guardians, I see".I ignored the look in his eyes as I blurted out literally everything I knew about Giselle and Rowena and how they've been the ones helping me from those twins..."Yesterday, while Giselle and I went to get my stuff from my house, she even told me that something more dangerous than those twins was coming and that I wouldn't be able to withstand it if I'm not careful....""Mmhmm... That so?" He interrupted taking another sip from his wine glass."Uhhm, I probably should get going now. I know they'll be worried sick about my whereabouts and I don't
