Chapter 1

Author: Triple Threat
When Mom gave birth to my little brother, Alex Hardy, Dad booked the entire floor of a private hospital.

He stayed by her side with me in his arms, pacing around the room and breaking out in a nervous sweat whenever she cried out in pain.

Right then and there, he declared that the moment Alex was born, he would make a public statement regarding his assets.

50% for me, 50% for Alex—no favoritism whatsoever.

When he said those words, he had no idea that right in that very room, the young, attractive nurse's eyes lit up the moment she heard him.

In my past life, the day after Alex was born, Mom was resting in her hospital bed while Dad was utterly exhausted after holding me and watching over her all night.

That was when the young nurse, Zoe Scott, walked in, saying it was time for the baby's feeding.

To avoid disturbing Mom's rest, she offered to take Alex next door to feed him.

In that life, I knew nothing, and Dad didn't think twice about it. He assumed Zoe was just being thoughtful, so he handed Alex over without a second thought.

That single handoff was all it took. Zoe and Alex vanished, never to be seen again.

Unable to face the harsh reality, Mom fell into a deep depression and took her own life before she even recovered from childbirth.

Dad couldn't forgive himself. He entrusted me to Grandpa before taking his own life to join Mom in death.

Losing his son left Grandpa heartbroken, and his mind quickly deteriorated.

Meanwhile, I became severely withdrawn after losing both my parents one after another.

When I was five, a nanny's carelessness led to me falling from the balcony. As I took my last breath, I was still calling out for Mom, Dad, and Alex.

Now, I'd been reborn and returned to the day Mom gave birth to Alex when I was three.

Looking at the happy expressions on Mom and Dad's faces and Alex's tender little face, I quietly clenched my tiny fists.

This time, I would never let that evil woman get her way!

Rubbing my sleepy eyes, I snuggled closer to Alex in his swaddle.

Dad chuckled, gently tousling my hair. "Look at that. She's already so attached to him."

Zoe pushed the door open. "Mr. Hardy, it's time for the baby's feeding. I'll take him next door."

She offered a sweet smile, her crisp uniform bathed in the warm overhead light.

Had it not been for the memories of my past life, I never would have pegged her for a monster.

Mom was still asleep, and Dad, having stayed up all night, was struggling to keep his eyes open.

Without a second thought, he murmured, "Thank you so much…"

"Don't touch my brother!" I yelled at the top of my lungs, snapping Dad awake.

Zoe's expression stiffened for a moment. Then, as if she suddenly thought of something, she quickly smiled again. "Looks like someone doesn't want to let go of her baby brother."

I sat on the small area rug, pretending to play with Alex, but my ears were actually pricked up.Alex blew tiny bubbles and smiled at me.I squeezed his chubby little hand and whispered softly, "You need to grow up fast so you can protect Mom in the future."Alex didn't understand, only letting out adorable baby gurgles, but I was sure he'd said yes.…A few years passed.By the time I entered elementary school, Alex was already chasing me all around the house. He took after Mom in looks, with beautiful, bright eyes, but he'd inherited Dad's stubborn temperament. Once he set his mind on something, nothing could persuade him otherwise. His absolute favorite thing to do was clutch my backpack to stop me from going to school."Ava, don't leave. Stay with me!"Every single time, I'd get a headache, while Dad just stood by, chuckling. "Alex, let go."Alex immediately pouted. "No!"Smiling, Mom picked him up in her arms. "Ava has to go to school. She'll be back this evening."Al

In my past life, Mom hadn't been able to hold on.Dad hadn't been able to hold on either. They loved each other too deeply, and they loved us too much. So after losing Alex, they had both been utterly broken. But things were different this time.Alex was back, Mom was still here, and Dad was still here, too.Our family was whole and intact.…On the day of Alex's one-month celebration, Dad decided against a grand party. He said Alex had suffered a terrible shock, and Mom needed peace and quiet, so he only invited our closest relatives.Grandpa held Alex in his arms, grinning from ear to ear. "Our little Alex is so blessed. He has such an extraordinary sister."The relatives crowded around, showering me with praise."Ava, you're amazing!""You're a little hero!"Feeling shy from all the compliments, I hid my face in Mom's arms.Mom kissed my forehead softly. "Ava, thank you for saving Alex."I shook my head. "I wanted to save you too, Mom."Mom froze.Dad turned to look

Zoe stared at me fiercely. Her gaze carried a tangled mix of emotions—hatred, fear, and sheer unwillingness to accept defeat."It's all because of you! If it weren't for you, I would have pulled it off. How on earth did a three-year-old child figure it out?"Dad's grip tightened around me.I blinked up at Zoe. "Because bad people have a stinky smell on them."Dad looked down at me, a flash of deep heartache cutting across his eyes.Zoe, however, completely unraveled. "I had it all planned out! Aunt Martha was going to take the baby away, and I was going to stay at the hospital so nobody would ever suspect me."Once the heat died down, I'd leave Jerandale. I'd give the baby a new name, and I'd tell him that I saved him. When he grew up, I'd bring him back. And by then, the Hardy family would have no choice but to compensate me! Why couldn't I get what I wanted?"Dad's gaze turned as cold as a blade. "Because he is not your tool. He is my son. He is the child Elise carried for nin

The hospital director's face turned as white as paper.I knew Dad wasn't just making empty threats. The Hardy family never bullied anyone, but we would never show mercy to anyone who tried to hurt our family.By noon that day, the story of the stolen newborn at the hospital hit the news.At first, people online were criticizing us, claiming rich folks were making a mountain out of a molehill, that nurses were just everyday working people, and that a three-year-old child's words couldn't be taken seriously. However, the official police report was released shortly after.Zoe and Martha were facing charges for child trafficking, unlawful drugging, and tampering with hospital security equipment. The hospital staff were also implicated in the crimes. All the online backlash vanished in an instant, replaced by a wave of public apologies."My goodness, the baby was only a day old!""That sister is brilliant!""A three-year-old saved her whole family.""Everyone who was bad-mouthing

Upon hearing the news, Mom held Alex tightly and sobbed for a long time.Dad sat by her side, reassuring her over and over again. "It's over now. Everything's okay."But I knew Mom was scared out of her mind. Her hands wouldn't stop shaking, and she couldn't even hold a glass of water steady.Dad replaced the entire staff on the floor. The original nurses, janitors, and security guards were all placed under investigation. He also called Grandpa to bring the family's bodyguards over. When Grandpa arrived, he was shaking so badly he could barely hold his cane steady. The second he stepped through the door, he pulled me into his arms. "Ava, were you scared?"I shook my head, but the moment I opened my mouth, tears spilled over. "Grandpa, Alex almost got lost."Grandpa's eyes turned red, too. "He's not lost. You're amazing, Ava. You saved Alex."He walked over to Mom's bed and looked down at Alex in his swaddle. His hands trembled uncontrollably. "As long as the baby is back safe…

Dad dropped to his knees and pulled me into his arms. "Ava… I almost lost you all."I wiped away his tears with my tiny hands. "You didn't lose anyone. I found Alex! From now on, we'll watch over him together."Dad pulled me into a tight hug, squeezing so hard that it almost hurt. But I didn't struggle because I knew he was truly terrified. The police arrested Zoe and Martha. Before leaving, Zoe was still crying and looking at Dad through her tears. "Mr. Hardy, I was wrong! I wasn't in my right mind… My family is so poor! I just wanted a better life! The baby isn't hurt, so please, spare me!"The warmth in Dad's eyes was completely gone. "The baby isn't hurt? He was born just yesterday! Yet you stuffed him into a laundry cart, crammed gauze into his mouth, and drugged me. And now you're telling me he isn't hurt?"Zoe sobbed even harder. "I truly never meant to hurt him! I only wanted to take him away! I would have raised him well!"Those words sent an icy chill straight through
