Chapter 3 Publicly Called Out

Evelyn's POV

All of a sudden, someone bumped into me, hard. It was Ally Dunn, Judy's good friend.

She had curly red hair and wore an intricate bracelet around her wrist, one that didn't match her bearing.

The bracelet once belonged to me. Father had won it for me during the full moon ritual. It had the power to protect and strengthen a wolf spirit.

I'd given the bracelet to Wyatt, but he tossed it over to Judy as if it were a piece of trash. Now, Ally wore it around her wrist.

Ally snapped haughtily, "Hurry up and get the food for your master, you pig! You'll be punished if your master has to eat late because of you."

She chuckled knowingly, and the others followed suit.

They even began discussing how Wyatt was going to punish me and claimed that even if he gave me to someone to breed with, it would only be considered an honor for me. After all, I was already a slut who would get in bed with anyone for money.

I was just about to defend myself when I felt a sharp pain coming from my abdomen.

Because I hadn't been eating regularly for a long time, my body was extremely weak. This had been a major reason why I couldn't overcome the wolfsbane poisoning and had chosen to die instead.

Only now did I understand how much more important a healthy body was than anything else.

After leaving the cafeteria, I found a quiet spot and enjoyed a hearty meal in silence. I couldn't remember the last time I'd had steak.

In my previous life, thanks to Wyatt's betrayal, Father died tragically, and I'd also been infected with the wolfsbane. Because of that, I was ostracized by my pack and could only eat sour, rotten wild fruits.

As I chewed on the tender and succulent steak, the rich peppery sauce coated my tongue. The taste might've been a bit too greasy for others, but to me, it felt just right.

I could almost hear my wolf demanding more meat—if she were here.

A single bite had awakened my long-dormant taste buds.

I only felt a sense of contentment once I'd polished off two servings of steak.

When I got back to class, Wyatt questioned me angrily, "What took you so long? And where's the food I asked for?"

"I already ate my lunch. You can get your food yourself," I replied as I gazed calmly at him.

"How dare you eat the food I asked for?" Wyatt bellowed.

His enraged expression hurt me. In the past, I always did whatever Wyatt wanted, ensuring he got everything he wanted.

It was only much later that I realized people wouldn't value my sacrifices if they came easily to them.

In fact, Wyatt even believed it was his own excellence that made me willingly sacrifice for him, and that he deserved everything I gave him.

He threw the cup he was holding at me and snapped, "Have you gone deaf? I told you to buy Judy's lunch for her, but you couldn't even complete such a simple task!"

I glanced at Judy, who sat on the side, and retorted coldly, "How am I related to her? Why must I use my money to buy her food? And what gives you the right to order me around?"

Judy was just an ordinary werewolf, but because Wyatt liked her, she would always join forces with him to demand that I spend my money on her. She would even bark orders at me as if I were a maid.

I managed to piss Wyatt off with that. He marched up to me, snarling, "I see how it is, Evelyn! Since you dared to defy me, don't blame me for ignoring you from now on. You'd better not come crying to me, begging me to forgive you."

Cocking my head to the side, I chuckled. A strand of my golden hair fell onto my face as I asked, "What have I done that requires your forgiveness?"

Everyone around us gasped.

It felt as though the room had frozen. All of our classmates stood in shock. I, the she-wolf who'd always obeyed Wyatt's every command, was openly defying him now!

They stared at me in shock, as if to try and see what was wrong with me.

Wyatt also stood frozen, his brows furrowed ever so slightly as he eyed me in puzzlement.

Wyatt's POV

Things were getting interesting. I couldn't believe Evelyn had openly defied me.

Had she forgotten who was the one who'd cling to me and make abject apologies whenever she saw that I was ignoring her because I was displeased?

She did that even when she wasn't the reason why I was angry.

I figured I must've been too nice to her lately. That was why she dared to be this arrogant toward me!

"In that case, don't head home with us after school today!" I declared with feigned indifference, my expression arrogant.

I was satisfied to see the dazed expression on her face.

Sure enough, she was just the same as before. She hadn't changed one bit. As long as I ignored her, she would come crawling back to me in no time, begging for my forgiveness.

But since she'd disobeyed my command this time, I had to teach her a lesson. Even if she apologized to me, I wouldn't forgive her so easily!
