ADIRA'S POV

I leaned in closer to the door to hear even better, but my heart pounded against my ribs because I did not want them to notice me.

“I am sorry, but there was nothing much I could do. Since you left, Alpha Ryder and Luna Adira have been sidelining me. They exclude me from tasks, and that was exactly what happened during the celebrations. They left me out of everything, and it makes it impossible to do my job,” Beta Atlas replied.

“Why are they sidelining you? Did something happen?” Grandpa Alan asked.

“I don't know, but I think Luna Adira noticed something. She is very careful around me and suspects me at every turn.” He paused, and my ear piqued. “Could she have found out about…”

“Adira?” someone called out my name from behind me.

I jumped, startled, and turned to find Ryder. “Dammit! I was just about to hear something important,” I hissed in my mind.

“What are you doing?” he asked skeptically, eyebrows raised.

“Nothing. I was just about to go in,” I lied.
